@i now work at ford, I wish the world was that simple. I didn't let the company I worked for get away with stuff like this, and now it seems an odd coincidence that I can't land a job despite hundreds of applications. I work for myself now, but I would rather have a steady job. If you still think that's all on me (or I'm Basic), then I sincerely hope you prove me wrong - that would be the ideal world to live in.

@i now work at ford, we did :(. Everyone too afraid of losing job to do anything. A lot of other issues going down but I’m trying to get people to realize that they can’t retrain replacements fast enough (takes 3 months as I’m part of a tradeskill) and if we ban together there’s nothing they can do. People are just too afraid unfortunately. Probably for reasons like what riidii insinuated. Employers have way too much power in certain states (tx here) especially with a fire at will and those with families just don’t want to risk it because they are happy in their fake happy little world pretending everything is nice

@im basic so yeah, we used to do something at my work where we would go as a team to lunch to build the team community. A new director came in and did away with it day one because she said she didn’t see a point. The department is horrible now we are losing people every day because they don’t want to be there. She made sure to ruin the department before she left for a different area which she will likely destroy as well.

@i now work at ford, he'd mostly be joking, but also he hated the politics that goes on there, let alone he was around when they started to outsource all their parts. But the biggest reason is he and his coworkers all developed cancers, my uncle included who worked at a different plant. While my dad worked at the Livonia plant, their water was contaminated and they didn't confess to it until a woman who worked there gave birth to a baby with major deformities. He retired in 2005. 31 years. Died at age 63 to Merkel cell carcinoma. My uncle died within six months of diagnosis of liver and lung cancer and I imagine the water at his plant was just as bad. My dad's good friend and coworker is trying to push a lawsuit, he developed throat cancer.

@bobbylupo, yeah. Funny thing is they wrote me up - final warning kind - and said if x, y, z doesn't happen, I'd be gone. So, when I finally got called to the office, they sat me down and told me that I was being let go because I didn't do x, y, z. I countered and demonstrated that I had done x, y, z, and this is word-for-word what I was told; "we don't believe you will be able to maintain that performance." I knew I could have fought it, but I had also seen the shells of employees that had "successfully" beat a wrongful termination attempt. It was never pretty. So, I accepted my fate - there was certainly no way to fix the path I was on.

@batterylicker, In my experience, you get a 15-minute paid break for every 4 hours in your work day, and if you work 6 or more hours you get an unpaid 30-minute lunch break. The job I'm working now, remotely assisting overnight installers for Sonic, doesn't have any breaks on the schedule, or an unpaid lunch, but i can essentially step away from my work whenever i want so long as someone is available to cover any techs that might call in.
We had new management come in. Our employees where i work have our own thanksgiving tradition where WE cook our own food Ans host our OWN potluck on our OWN time for lunch. Work does nothing to advertise, fund, or do anything. It’s an employee run thing that we do on our own. This new manager comes in and says we can’t do it any more Ans says we are gonna do it for Christmas instead. (guess what? We didnt) First of all, no. You have no right to dictate to us what we do on our own lunch thing. How dare you. Im sure it was a typical psychological “I’m new here so let me assert my power of something that you feel you have power over to give the impression that you don’t so you acknowledge me” Absolutely ridiculous. And everyone fell for it. RIP potluck. (This happened before Covid)
