"If moving to Mars costs, for argument's sake, $100,000, then I think almost anyone can work and save up and eventually have $100,000 and be able to go to Mars if they want."
@huyner, putting some more context out there before the Elon haters get their panties in a bunch.
@huyner, just take a 100,000 loan put. What are they gonna do? Fly to mars and get it back from you
@BigJohnson86, lol. This guy knows how to do it.
@huyner, I don’t want your context. I just want something to rage against!
@huyner, ive been in the work force for over a decade and still havent made 100000 after subtracting rent and food costs. I doubt id be able to afford a ticket while i am still healthy enough to be considered
@BigJohnson86, good try, but they would either deny the loan based on the expectation you wouldn't repay them or require more value in collateral.
@BigJohnson86, bruh. You know the Wild West? Do you want space FBI. This is how you get SPACE FBI ! !
I mean considering how much it cost to go to the "new world" this is probably a fair price point.
@Jdasher5744, "Fair" doesn't mean "affordable"
@SimonPetrikov, afordable is relative, so we both can be correct.
@Jdasher5744, It's "relative" in the same way that a million dollars being a small loan is "relative," in that we're definitely not talking about "almost everyone"
@SimonPetrikov, i made reference to colonialism. Almost everyone certainly didnt make the trip then because of finances. Many gave up everything they had just to get to the Americas. 100k sounds about the same in todays market which... To me makes it a fair price. If its not afordable for you/some thats fine, but if 50% of income earning individuals can afford that (even if it means saving up for years which sounds very possible) then id say thats a perfectly fair and marketable price. What would you tag as a fair price to go to mars since youre so critical of 100k and my fair comment?
"Let's colonize Mars, and leave all the poors to wallow in the ruined planet we left behind!" -billionaires, probably
I’ll go on the first flight if I get a discount for already having all the skills he wants.
Honestly, 100 Grand is amazing for a house price, so yeah why not
He doesn’t realize that no one wants to go to mars. Why would someone like me want to go to mars? Freeze to death and die? Hang out in the pod and look at nothing? Playing around in low gravity would be fun but not 100,000 dollars fun for something that would get boring in 15 minutes.
I'm gonna save up for a ticket now.
Ok, now I have enough for a ride.
@AJMalone, take me with u
If you're going to Mars, would Earth money even have value at that point? I mean wouldn't he just make up his own currency?
With inflation it's only $50 in today's money
Pay a hundred k to do a sh*t ton of work to start a 'new world' with a high probability of death...I think I'm good.
