@JiggleMyPuffs, as an electrician turned engineer can confirm I say regularly to guys. Remember this things gonna break at some point so make everything actually accessible.

@Kaldr, Im a mechanical engineer and often work with green electrical engineers and quite frequently have to tell them how to design the pcba. My two cents is learn what you can from experienced EEs and don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't just design something thinking it'll work without talking to the ee experts.
