I do not understand why so many people consider flip flops to be practical footwear for anything other than the pool, the lawn, the locker room, or the beach. I remember climbing Cannon Mountain in NH in full hiking gear, and at the summit there were dozens of people (who had taken the gondola) stumbling around the boulders and tree roots in flip flops.
