All this talk of real hip-hop and yet tards are still only bringing up amateur names. Just because a hip-hop artist can make a reference to something you like doesn't automatically warrant that they're talented. Rapping, the music of hip-hop requires more than simple punch lines and nursery school rhyming. Cadence, Vocabulary, use of syllables, use of constant/vowel sounds within the syllables. Speed, Emotion, Harmony, Pitch, delivery. Is there a message? What are their topics? ALMOST all of todays mainstream rappers only have one-liners, broken record line repeating, one bar rhymes and beats fro

@Dayumdayumdayum, I am very open to rap, believe me. But I REALLY do not believe rick ross, wiz khalifa, lil wayne, or any young money in that matter, drake, etc. are any good. They've brought bad influence to this generation and they are just terrible. Old rappers used to have some sort of writing skill, now they are poetically terrible. And i love about a hundred rappers, just barely any of them today.

@The Protagonist, The emotion on Eminem's first 3 albums are so powerful and amazing. There really is nothing else like it. I can still listen to those albums today and they're still amazing like they're just brand new. If you played the first few seconds of ANY eminem song, I could guess it easily.

@Vic Sage, Everyone else i mentioned? I can see why people think bob and lupe fiasco are whack and i understand that. But 2pac, Bone Thugs N Harmony, biggie, Bun B, DmX(kinda), NWA, and Wu Tang Clan are the best there is. I like the ones you mentioned but, in my opinion, theyll never be as deep as tupac was.

@The Protagonist, it's because black people can't except white rappers. Whenever you in a convo about rap, you bring up eminem, macklemore, or any other white rapper, they get offended. Idk why, when I talk about rock music and a black guy brings up hendrix, I'm just like you right, he's one of the greatest of all time (guitarist/singer/songwriter)

@Fatpossum, Yeah, I hate this 'race' thing with music genres. And B.o.B is true to his raps. I know why you would say that as he has made songs with lil wayne, nicki minaj, etc. but a lot of his songs have a deeper meaning to it. Created a monster is a great example. Bombs away and play for keeps are other great examples. And about Vanilla Ice, but in my opinion, he was terrible! My favorite white rapper, other than eminem, is mark wahlberg haha.

@Fatpossum, you're right but that has nothing to do with it. I like other rappers but most of today's popular "artists" suck. But I'm also pretty young at many of the greatest rappers died before I got into the genre. Can we at least all agree that lil Wayne, nicki minjaj, and drake suck? Or maybe most of Young Money?

@Fatpossum, Also, I said Eminem because compared to other people, his songs mean something. Every time I hear "Lose Yourself" I just can't explain how I feel. I think it might be because I'm a new student at a new school where I barely new anybody. I was so shy and some jerks were picking on me. I honestly was getting depressed. Then I heard this song and I decided I was gonna take my shot and make friends. So in my book, Eminem actually made my life better
Real Talent? Tech N9ne, Eminem, Bone-Thugs, Immortal Technique, BOB, Crooked I. To Name a few. You want 1 hit punchlines, 1 bar repeated 107903690359 times in the song or one bar rhymes, that's almost ALL mainstream. Rick Ross, 2Chainz, Niki Minaj...garbage. if their lyrics were compared to art, their talent is analagous to stick figure drawings. Where's the impeccable cadence, the speed? Where's the vocabulary? Where'a the emotion. Where are the elaborate double entendres? Where'a the dynamic rhyme scheme where at least 6 syllables rhyme within 1 bar and not just the last two word of two bars? You want good rap? Learn english, poetry, learn how the language works, then you can TRULY judge what's good hip hop and what's not.
