@Deadeye, I Am Legend starring Will Smith. It's about a man who is the only human left in a city who hasn't been infected by a zombie. There was a huge exodus but he stood back for his science research on how to cure the zombies. He and his dog work together to survive. However, it turns out he is not alone for there are many more survivors and two of them find him. I don't wanna spoil the rest but its a good movie

@TheLoneStarTexan, no, they ruined the story by changing the ending of I Am Legend. *spoilers* He is a "legend" to the zombies because HE is THEIR boogeyman. He comes kidnapped one of their own and they're attempting the to rescue it while he cuts them down at every opportunity. That's the entire point, and is where the name of the movie and novella come from.

@I Have No Gimmick, the novel is a collections of shorter stories. You may be right in calling it a novel, but it's less than 100 pages, so I do not. I know that's probably not the definition of a short story, but that's what I consider it to be.

To be fair, the dog dies, then he loses the will to live, said everyone who actually watched the movie. Also, every version they've ever made, this character dies at the end. It's how the story ends, therefore the movies followed suit.

@Mazeboy, in the novel they are vampires and can communicate and are actually intelligent. In the movie they are just some vampire like product of a virus that amount to little more than wild animals.
