Hey FunnyPics, on a serious note, lately I've been putting thought into attempting to join the SEALs, I'm only a sophomore in high school at the time and opinions change, but I really feel like this is my path. My grandpa was a Navy SEAL in the Vietnam War and ever since I was young I valued him and looked up to him, still to this day. Now I'm not just saying this to tell you something it's because, even though I've never met anyone of you before (maybe I have) I really do value your opinions, as weird as it sounds. Now I'm if anybody has any experience with this, I'm wondering if I should join the Navy first or try BUD/S right away? If you read all of this, thank you, this means a lot to me :D
@DINOsaysRAWR, I have no experience in this field, however I have read some books about it(lone survivor, no easy
@DINOsaysRAWR, stupid send button. No easy day, lone survivor, etcetera. If you haven't read them, I would recommend doing so(especially lone survivor), because it gives you an idea of what you're getting into. I would probably recommend joining the navy first, because you're so young.
@DINOsaysRAWR, I think you should take your time to decide. You're only a sophmore right now, (I am too) but if you really want to want to join then try the Navy first. At least wait until you graduate though, dont just rush into a decision like this.
@Invalid Chicken, I would never have guessed you are a sophomore
@Invalid Chicken, thank you, I'm definitely going to wait until I graduate, and I was veering towards joining the navy first and wait until I'm older reach my final decision.
@DINOsaysRAWR, my 30 yr old cousin wants to join but believe me when I say this to get in is really tough. Especially on the physical side. My cousin is really fit so he is fine. But even so it will be tough.
@DINOsaysRAWR, Hey man I've been in the military for a few years now and my suggestion is this. When you join with the intent to be a navy seal you must pick a different Combat position in the navy like gunners mate to even join. Thing is if you fail BUD/s you automatically get sent to the other job they made you pick. My opinion from enlisted experience is to join not as a SEAL, then after the 3 year min of service before training to another job, apply to be a SEAL. That way you go back to the job you like if you fail instead of one the recruiter picks. Hope that helps.
@Basil Fawlty, I've seen videos on the summary of BUD/S, I have no doubt how brutal it can be and I don't underestimate even the first steps in the slightest.
@DINOsaysRAWR, at least you'll be able to kick peoples asses
@DINOsaysRAWR, you probably should join the Navy first, then go into the SEALs after. I might be giving bad advice, but being a SEAL is hard stuff. Might be fun to sneak around, shooting people in the head, but just consider my opinion. If you join the Navy or SEALs, just know that I wish you luck :)
@CaptainReynolds, thank you, that does help quite a bit
@DINOsaysRAWR, the military stands today as a completely legitimate career choice! If you feel a strong desire to do so, you may very well you can while holding on to your future. After your service, you can take advantage of the military's education programs to help with tuition and continue your life from there, so over all I think for someone showing this level of dedication, the navy may right for you. Good luck my friend.
@DINOsaysRAWR, yeah I know how you feel, I'm thinking about joining the FBI's hostage rescue team, I'm just doing research right now just to see what I'm getting in to. I suggest since your interested in the Navy SEALs, do some research on the group you'll find interesting things. [Sorry for the long post]
@DINOsaysRAWR, congrats on fighting for your country, but I'm getting fed up of all these long emotional posts. The comments section is a place of laughter, not'oh my bro died' etc etc, not trying to be rude, just stating my opinion!
@Invalid Chicken, invalid chicken!! I love you
@DINOsaysRAWR, why are you yelling "seal"?
@DinkIeberg, SEAL is the acronym for SEa Air Land
@DINOsaysRAWR, me and a friend of mine have put some serious thought into the military, and I recommend that you join a U.S. auxiliary like the civil air patrol if you're serious about it.
@Tactical Bagel, hoo boy, Lone Survivor. I would've liked that book if it weren't so goddamn self righteous and preachy.
I can tell you for sure that it is a decision not to be taken lightly. Do not take into account what you see in movies or online. Seals are elite group of professionals that do what needs to be done and are the best at it. Be wary of recruiters and consult with a friend or family member when a recruiter talks to you. Its not always what it seems in the contract. Do your research in books and not in blogs, in person and not from stories. Good luck to you.
@DINOsaysRAWR, I went to a recruiter to talk to him about it and it really helps clear all your questions
@DINOsaysRAWR, my buddy was planning on Becoming a navy seal. He said the average seal was a marine who worked up through the ranks. I'd talk to a recruiter or look online if I were you.
@Nigel uno, a marine who worked up through the ranks and applied to become a seal I don't know if that's true or not but he had been talking to recruiters of all the different branches at the time so I assume he knew what he was saying but again I only have his words to go off of.
@StuckPixelStudios, thank you, I have done various research in books and videos, simply trying to get as many perspectives as possible
@Tactical Bagel, you have to join the navy first the SEALs are a group within the navy and Dino I've thought the same thing and I'm the same age so if you do join and go to BUD/S see ya there
@DINOsaysRAWR, Its more mentally than physically challenging from what I've heard. S.E.A.Ls are the best fighters in the world for a reason.
@Jokon99, yes, however you can join BUD/S right away if you want to become a S.E.A.L. I think
@DINOsaysRAWR, I'm on the same path as you... My dream is to become a US Navy SEAL, what I'm doing is I already did the ASVAB and I did not qualify for the SEALS... However, I did qualify as a HM (Hospital Corpsman) I go through bootcamp and then A school for corpsman. What the Navy will do after you're done is give you the option to be a SEAL corpsman. Now you'll have to go through a year and a half of training for that but it's a bonus cause you're already a qualified HM. Good luck on your goals but be warned, BUD/S is the hardest training in the world. You survive that, Ill have 100% respect for you. Peace.
@Invalid Chicken, or if reading isn't your thing you can watch Poster Girl on Netflix, it's really scary to see what war can do to such young people...
@DINOsaysRAWR, my suggestion would be to make sure this is what you really want. If it is, then I'd say talk to a Navy ROTC recruiter. This should be on your list of options. Basically the Navy will pay for your schooling for some amount of years of service. As an added bonus I think you then enter after graduating as an officer, which means more pay, more respect, and less "expendability"
@DINOsaysRAWR, I think you should talk to some current seals and get their opinion. And I would definitely join the swim/waterpolo teams. Not because you like the sports or want to compete but because you need to be able to swim for days on end
@DINOsaysRAWR, You have to be over 18 and have a high school diploma before signing up, otherwise just look up the physical requirements before diving headfirst into it.
@DINOsaysRAWR, you need to be an officer in the navy before you can begin BUD/S
@DINOsaysRAWR, I'm jealous... I wanna join the seals but I don't have the strength. I hope you can achieve what I will never be able. Good luck!
@DINOsaysRAWR, hey, my name is Wil and I've been in kind of the same position you seem to be in. I've always wanted to be a Marine and join MARSOC (SEALs of the Marine Corps). This year I turned 18 and finally was able to enlist and like you I wasn't sure if I should wait to attempt MARSOC training. What I was told by my recruiter is that I should wait, get my foot in the door and establish myself in the military with an infantry position. This seemed like good advice so I took an 0311 contract (Infantry). And that's what I would suggest to you. I really hopes this helps, I ship to boot camp this June and I hope we get to serve in field together one day.
@Sperminator, this is not true, the majority of a BUDS class is made up of enlisted men.
@DINOsaysRAWR, as long as you are willing to put in the time, physical strain, and work it takes to become a Seal then I don't see why not! I hope it all works out for you(:
@DINOsaysRAWR, I am going for the Air Force Academy soon, I just sent in my application! But I can tell you that SEALs training is extremely brutal, and will push you far beyond your mental and physical limits. If you are really willing to do this you should have started training a year ago, lots of studying and exercise, just push yourself to keep doing better, keep those grades up and stay in shape. Also try enrolling in programs like the Civil Air Patrol, or JROTC right now, because those will give you an advantage.
@Invalid Chicken, Oh lord, i'm in the same grade level as Invalid Chicken and @DINOsaysRAWR
@DINOsaysRAWR, way to go man! Hooyah!
This is a test: 😄
@Sly Cooper, it worked!
