#fact 67) Without the Moon the Earth's axis would shift unpredictably and seasons would not be constant. So let's be thankful for the moon.
@The Sage, don't forget about the waves guys, you know how much fun that is at the beach
@The Sage, thanks Yue, for ruling the sky with lunar goodness
@The Sage, so it would be like North Carolina, it was 29°F yesterday and no I'm wearing a t-shirt in 75° weather
@The Sage, these are awesome, thank you for your service :)
@The Sage, Unfortunately, the Moon is slowly moving away from us...
@UltraTaco, my pleasure, people like you make me keep going
@The Sage, thank you Luna!
@The Sage, you mean Turd Town?
@The Sage, Thank goodness for Turd Town.
@The Sage, dislike my comment referencing another picture and up vote your own? Poor show old bean.
@Dirty Dirty Dishrag, I did not mean to dislike, I wanted to like. In compensation and apologies, I will like your comment now. Also, I don't get the reference, could you explain?
@The Sage, pic id=86897. By the way I really like these facts. Thank you.
@The Sage, it is listed under every picture.
@Dirty Dirty Dishrag, no problem
@Dirty Dirty Dishrag, also how do you get pic id?
@The Sage, how do I find pic given the id?
@Dirty Dirty Dishrag, how do I find the pic given the id?
@The Sage, I don't think you can. Search "moon". I tagged it.
@The Sage, The moon has no part in seasons or the tilt of the earth; Seasons come along by the earth tilting to one side and that particular side' tilt. The moon does not affect the seasons and life got along just fine for more than a billion years without it.
@Ultimate Nerd, the earths seasons are consistent because of the moon. Also, for those 4 billion years, the animals that could actually interpret those seasons were only around for thousands of years. Also , you are wrong about the moon: it has been revolving around earth just 30 million years after earth was born. Where you get this billion statistic eludes me.
@The Sage, the moon holds no factor in the consistency, Life has only been around for 2 billion years (the other two billion were spent cooling the oceans of molten lava), all animals have an evolutionary sense of telling the seasons apart ( and since I think you mean humans by that, humans have been around for 2 million years),
@The Sage, I'm sorry, I got cut off. The moon did not exist "just 30 million years after the earth was born", the moon was created by a(n) [asteroid or meteoroid] crashing into the earth and expelling nearly 1/6 of the particles into space where they formed just as protoplanets do. This event could not have taken place until around 500 million-1 billion years ago. And finally, a statistic is represented by a percentage; therefore it would be a statistic to say that 100% of users of stuckpixel with the username "The Sage" have nothing better than a fifth grade education.
@Ultimate Nerd, I am referring to Homo sapiens, who originated in Africa, where we reached anatomical modernity about 200,000 years ago
@Ultimate Nerd, anyway, please take the time to look what I am saying up. It seems I cannot convince you.
@The Sage, Alright; I'll give you that one, and I apologize for the rash remark about your education, It was ungentlemanly.
@Ultimate Nerd, it's ok. I know what a statistic is btw, I'm the son of a physicist and a biochem/math major myself. I just used it in the sense that one uses lol, even though no one laughs. I should correctly say "fact". Anyway, let's leave it at that, but please keep your cool.
@The Sage, well you are a little off there. Yes the moon provides significant stabilization of the earth's rotations with the angular momentum of its orbit, however the way you word the "dramatic" shift in seasons is quite extreme. The shifts in the earths axis would not be very often and would actually not be extremely catastrophic unless some major force that is not normally felt by earth were to hit us. The unpredictability if these shifts stems from the difficulty in determining what kind of effect any minor change in the overall forces that affect the planet will have on our rotation and the how often those changes would occur. TL;DR Sage is right but do not think that without the moon we would be living in a crazy always changing world without definite seasons.
Off topic ; Anyone exited about the now godzilla movie coming out later this year?
@Lv 50 Blastoise, or any of the new movies Ex:resident evil 6,paranormal activity 5 or 6 I think, 300 prequal
@Lv 50 Blastoise, there is going to be a prequel to 300? Why have i not been informed!
@Lv 50 Blastoise, isn't it a sequel? I could have sworn it's a sequel, unless the trailer confused me
Haven't been on funnypics in a few days....This is gonna be a looooong sh!t
Btw, Lone Survivor is a great movie! It doesn't glorify war or anything, but it shows what our men go through when they're out there, especially SEALs. They might be given high expectations and thought of as these unstoppable warriors, but in truth they're just human beings who've made a great sacrifice. They don't fight to complete the mission; they fight for that person right beside them.
@Dyrewulff , I really like how they showed that not all middle eastern people are terrorists too. That was something new I hadn't seen before.
Look ma I'm on TV! I told you winter was coming
Isn't the cloaked man a meme?
@Jethro Skylight , please tell me you're not serious
@Jethro Skylight , I swear to the seven gods if you're serious right now....
@Jethro Skylight , brace yourself, the down votes are coming..
@Michch333, I seriously don't care about being downvoted it's a simple yes/no question I'm asking the community
@Jethro Skylight , thats the whole joke the meme is "brace yourselves winter is coming"
@Invalid Chicken, thanks chicken.
@Jethro Skylight ,
It went right over.
@Jethro Skylight , you are dumb! Really really dumb!
@ThumbsUpMan, fo' real!
@Jethro Skylight , yes. The downvotes are unfaire btw
@Just a raccoon, yes it has been proven the more up or down votes something receives the more inclined people are to vote that way.
@Implicit88, I try to ignore the votes but its hard not to see a comment with 99 votes :/
@Jethro Skylight , from what I can tell I think he's from the show "Game of Throwns" and he's been used in a few memes.
@Robot ninja, also if I was to start the series should I read the books or watch the t.v. shows?
@Pippipdodoodleydoo, Don't worry the lord of light will strike him down
@Robot ninja, the books are by far the greatest pieces of literature I have ever read and I read a LOT not reading them would be a waste of the most amazing experience of your life. However, the books completely ruined the show for me (mainly because I read them first) because the show would make big changes in the plot and timeline of events which I really didn't like.
I wonder what he's doing inside of a Deli. I bet he's hungry.
One does not simply predict the first snowstorm of 2014
