Avatar: The Last Airbender
Airbending is actually based on a martial known as Baguazhang (or simply Ba Gua). Sifu Kisu chose it based on its circular movements that followed the flow of air
@Sexy Homunculus, lol I still remember that
@Sexy Homunculus, So is Toph's fighting style and so is the Hyuga clans fighting style from Naruto.
@Sexy Homunculus, is there anything about anime you DONT know?
@MidasRaptor91, Actually Toph's fighting style is based on Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu instead of Hung Gar Kung Fu like most earthbenders because the creators wanted Toph's style to be different since she's blind and used her Earthbending to "see". But you're right about Neiji and his clan from Naruto, their fighting style is based on Ba Gua.
@Sexy Homunculus, Will you marry me?
@Sexy Homunculus, I would love to learn that martial art
@Werbenjagermanjensen, only if you let me be #1 ;)
@Sexy Homunculus, lmao you lucky dog I wish I learned some martial are but I dont have enough time to go learn kungfu from some half baked class
@abrand, a few years ago when I was learning Wing Chun my Sifu also taught Northern Shaolin Kung Fu (what firebending is based on) before my Wing Chun class, and it was awesome being able to experience real life firebending before my class started. And also he once showed us a Ba Gua technique to help us with our footwork and while he was doing that I was just thinking, "Holy crap he's Airbending!"
@Sexy Homunculus, lmao
@Sexy Homunculus, but they still seem similar you can tell Toph is more fluid with her movements than most earthbenders not to mention more creative. I watched that 30 minuet video on the creators and it showed the fat guy that have them Toph's fighting style and he was able to fight with his eyes closed because of it it was pretty cool you should watch it if you haven't already.
@abrand, I stopped going when I left for college, but I have signed up for Tai Chi classes in spring so now I'll be able to refine my waterbending skills
@Sexy Homunculus, I mastered that long ago. I have now moved on to more effective self defense techniques.
@Sexy Homunculus, I thought earth bending was Bagua
@Sexy Homunculus, do you have a MAL by any chance?
@Sexy Homunculus, You sir, have yourself a deal.
@Sexy Homunculus, that.... That is effing awesome!!!!
@Sexy Homunculus, I know this was two years ago, but you know wing chun? How do you like it? I've wanted to learn for years.
@The Silver Shroud, I'd say I'm mildly experienced in it, just took it for about a year while I was in high school and left for college the following year. I didn't learn the more advanced "sticky hand" techniques but I still learned a lot of great self-defense maneuvers. Well worth your time if you get the chance. You won't become Bruce Lee in a single day or anything like that, but if you have the time you can really become skilled at defending yourself with Wing Chun
@Sexy Homunculus, that sounds amazing.
Best show ever.
@Gabbyaz, amen to that!
@Gabbyaz, must've never seen breaking bad then.
@Gabbyaz, seriously, even having seen all of Breaking Bad and Dexter, there's still something there's still something about Avatar that I love more than those or any TV show. Breaking Bad is awesome though.
My favorite fighting style is beat the crap out of everyone
Honestly the only reason I haven't completely abandoned this app for Reddit is because of all the avatar references.
@Tinkerbellover26, not to mention there are a lot of pictures on here from reddit and ones making fun of pictures on reddit because whoever posted it doesn't get on reddit and the joke went over their head. Like that one post that said "I'm just here to set trends" and it was a dude with fivefingers and flip flops on and some one didn't get it so they put the I don't want to live on this planet anymore picture under it.
If people refuse to come to my parties, I steal their trail mix because I am a bear.
@The party bear, Can I call you Pat?
I hate how in the movie they changed how they said his name.
