People should spam this to Amazon until they do it. If I’ve learned anything in the 21st century, it’s that companies love to cave to the will of an angry mob that doesn’t really care about the end result and are kinda just bored but could end up losing the company a ton of money due to the tendency for things to get out of hand online...
@Blasphemy is Fun, I concur. I hope this becomes a recurring meme topic.
Controversial Opinion: Don’t do that, because then Amazon has a say in what goes on to Wikipedia. That’s the point of Wikipedia being funded by private donations.
@Hellequin, That’s exactly what I was thinking. Do we really want amazon to have a controlling share in INFORMATION?
@Hellequin, it says donate, if they donated the money they couldnt make demands of wikipedia.
@GunLovingMerican, Don’t worry, they’d find a way.
@GunLovingMerican, While that’s true from a legal standpoint, it’s not necessarily as much about making enforceable demands, as it is about ‘blackmail’. ie, “without our donations you’d be screwed, so it’s best you keep us happy if you want to ensure the money keeps coming in”
@Theuns, but if they did “blackmail” them so to speak, which I doubt they would, Wikipedia would just refuse and go back to donations. I’m sure Wikipedia has a lot of offers but chooses to stay run by donations currently anyway. So if Amazon was coerced into donating the founds, Wikipedia would accept but they wouldn’t take any influence.
@Blasphemy is Fun, Not only that, but it would ruin Amazon if they withdrew support just because wikipedia wouldn't meet their demands. All the while martyring Wikipedia and ensuring they have enough donations from the public to keep running for the foreseeable future
Fvck Jeff bezos despite my beloved prime membership
Free trial membership?
You can’t bitch about this if you yourself haven’t donated at least once, I don’t own a google or an Alexa
@DrSin, I dontae every month to Wikipedia and Firefox.
@MattF, I hardly use em honestly I’m just lazy and ask other people so I have loops for being an ass
Alexa, play Despacito.
This reminded me that I need to donate to Wikipedia. I spend £80 on Netflix a year, £80 on prime...etc. wikipedia is where I got all of my basic knowledge in everything. Donate and keep it alive, this will be my contribution to future generations
Amazon actually gave them $1 mil in September.
That... actually makes sense to me. Huh. That's a nice new perspective.
