As a teacher... it’s not fun for us either. (Here just reinvent your entire field with very little scientific research and a lot of companies that just want to convince to buy their product). Also, the kids will sign onto zoom and then sprint away from their computer as fast as possible.
I like helping kids grow, see the light turn on in their eyes when they understand... can’t do that with their camera off or if they’re on “page 2” of the zoom conversation.
Im doing my job. I still want to help kids and it’s not like they stop growing/developing because they stay home. It’s been rough though.
Even my wife (teaching longer than I have) has to recreate every single lesson because it just doesn’t translate to online. Small pieces of it can but the rest needs to be remade if we want to be effective.
@Canis Arktos, if you really are a teacher thanks for all you do. You guys deserve a raise. It really sucks for our kids though. My son was really excited to go to high school in our new town but zoom it is.
@GFDOOM, I am a teacher but I’m not yet a parent. I feel for what you must be going through. It was awful to see the looks on some of my kids when they found out that their championship team... was t going to finish the season. That said, the high school kids know what school is. Sure it’s changed but... you know... homework, class should feel like this etc. I’m just beside myself at what kindergarten kids and teachers are up to. That just blows me away.
@GFDOOM, I will say thank you and that I wouldn’t turn down a raise. It wouldn’t be inappropriate when comparing my salary to that of other masters degree jobs with similar hours...
But I’m fortunate enough to live in the northeast USA and particularly, not too far from NYC. They’re pretty fair to their teachers for pay. I really can’t complain. There are a lot of other states though that I certainly wouldn’t be willing to move to given what they pay their teachers.
@Canis Arktos, i know what you mean with the pay. I love in California where teachers get paid pretty well. It's crazy that in done parts of the country teachers are writing because they can't afford to keep doing it. i feel the same for kindergartners. I'm sure do many of them were so excited to go to school and then corona
@Canis Arktos, preach it fellow teach!
@Canis Arktos, same here. I teach 4/5 autism SPED so it’s doubly difficult for me and them.
@Canis Arktos, quit complaining and do your job. I teach too but I don't whine about it all day
@Canis Arktos, ever heard of adapt and overcome? Probably not with your fvcking book of a manifesto. Your kids hate you because you're too loquacious
@Canis Arktos, I'm sure you do like helping kids grow you creepy fvcking pedo
@dj evolve fan club, that was... intense. I didn’t complain “all day”. It was like, 6 lines. GFDoom and I were having a chat. Could I ask where all the hostility is coming from?
@Canis Arktos, no wonder you're churning out communists when you yourself are playing the victim
@dj evolve fan club, Alright man, if you don’t want to engage the question I’ll bid you a good day.
@Canis Arktos, hostility? oh I'm just a little concerned that the left wing propaganda machines that are the educational and media systems are ruining our country
@dj evolve fan club, bro, what in the hell are you talking about? They were having a completely normal conversation.
Tell me where on this doll where QAnon touched you.
@Canis Arktos, I’m also a teacher and it’s such a struggle. I feel so depressed right now teaching from home. I just want to be back in the classroom.
@TheKnightsWhoSayNi, depressed? I'm way past depressed
@Not him again, he touched my lemonade stand and my brownie factory 🤕
@TheKnightsWhoSayNi, as someone who is back in the classroom now... it’s got its pros and cons. Theirs still SO much uncertainty and I want to blame admin but honestly we’re all making it up as we go. My town is... well they’re listening to us and it’s far from perfect but we’re making it work. We’ve got some of the kids in the classroom and most online but it’s coming along. I’ll suggest that unions exist for moments like this. I can be critical of the crazy lines in the sand unions pick sometimes but my union (and a few near me) seem to have really come through with a solution that’s uncomfortable for everyone... but pretty genuinely good enough. I feel pretty safe for my kids and myself. Not perfect but what in life is. I hope, not that you come back soon, but that your region is in a position to come back soon. Good luck. Keep fighting the good fight. Don’t forget to get exercise and sunlight. It has good effects on health, stress, and mood.
@dj evolve fan club, :-) I see you found the edit option.
1) calling someone a pedo is not a small thing in my opinion so f that and fu for saying it.
2)you’ve got me on being loquacious. They normally come around. And I try to focus on questions with them.
Anyway, I agree that propaganda is a big big issue lately and while both sides are really pushing it hard.... I think the left might be less aware of the propaganda that are being fed them. That concerns me too. Myself, I’m a left leaning independent who honestly leans more libertarian than left on that chart. But I teach science. I ask questions and let the kids discover for themselves. I like that I don’t have questions like “how fast was the car moving?” “200 kilometers per nevertrump” it’s just not the kinda class I teach.
@Canis Arktos, edit is a Godsend
@Canis Arktos, thanks for your words! Yes, exercise and sunlight have been critical lately. We’re making it work here in Wisconsin with virtual learning. The actual teaching virtual isn’t so bad. It’s the relationship building that’s damn near impossible.
This one hits way to close to home.
@Dimir FTW, Are ye saying ye ain’t of Funny Pics age?
@CRIZZLE290, that, and you should also be wondering why he would support a lobotomist.
@Alfredo Fettuccine, if one wants to keep to the shadows one must make sure that those who have seen the shadow never speak of it
I like online classes so much better tbh, although I do miss meeting people... I think my ideal would be 2 in-person, 5 online
Currently going through this right now.
@HeadNode, Son started remote kindergarten on Monday. FML.
