Because not all steroids are illegal (and most are legal with a perscription). They're against the rules of the sport though, and I'd imagine auto-tune would be too in music competitions.
Also, auto-tune doesnt fvck up your body (just maybe your hearing) so there's that.
@NightCrest, also any prescription drug is illegal when used incorrectly. Not just in sports. If you're not prescribed or not taking your prescription correctly, it can do serious harm to your body. Auto tune can be annoying, but comparing it to the illicit of drugs is kinda stupid.
Because real musicians don't use it
@Shyhand, Truthfully, musicians have used autotune for a long time, it just wasn't the majority of their sound. They had to trouble track John Lennon's voice on nearly everything because it was weak. Of course, Lennon is far from a musician, more of a songwriter anyways.
@La Villa Strangiato, why did this comment get downvoted, but a similar one below it was upvoted? I'm confused...
Anybody listen to john mayer?
Real answer: because music is quite different from sports. In sports there are rules and regulations that have to be followed to keep order. There are no rules in music, if it sounds good/ sells good you can do whatever you want to it.

I would have to imagine it's because steroid withdraw includes severe suicidal depression for starters, which has claimed spotlight in the news on a handful of occasions in the last 10-15 years with the suicides of famous athletes (primarily baseball players) which is ironic because hitting a ball with a bat and base running has got to the the weakest form of athleticism compared to basically every other sport.
Cuz steroids actually make you perform better... ::shots fired::
Because autotune doesn't make you preform better
In the end auto tune is just another effect, part of the many effects you can use. I've heard good singers use it just for some extra dynamic even though they can do the runs BETTER on their own. But I remember a time when I had no idea about music production, and this picture would have made great sense.
@sonnyrey4L, Even old artists used autotune, honestly, it just wasn't called that. John Lennon double tracked his voice in nearly every song because he thought his voice was weak. I don't like today's music, but autotune is nothing new.
@La Villa Strangiato, double tracking vocals is fairly standard. Autotune isn't the same as double tracking as it is a plug-in that alters the pitch of a chosen instrument (typically vocals)
@Vicfirthfan, Well, you've got me there, I wasn't thinking about that. What most people refer to as autotune is very rare in classic rock, but I think I've heard a few instances. Can't think of any examples of course, but you're right. Double tracking and other studio effects are different.
Because athletes aren't successful based on public opinion.
THIS ISN'T HOW YOU USE THIS GODDAMN MEME.
So very much agreed. If you can't sing without that autotune crap you probably can't sing and don't deserve to be famous.
Hint: auto-tune is not an advantage in music.
Steroids are illegal for everyone😂
Because it doesn't make you sound any better.
Because we aren't children who think that music is objective
.....because steroids are dangerous.
The same reason they can do concerts and not sing.
