@Scarlet Pumpernickel, the word N was first used by affluent black Americans that wanted to separate themselves from black criminals and those that are in poverty. However, around the 70s, the term thugs began to be seen as a praise for someone's tough nature and constitution. Basically, your the man. Since N essentially means thug, many black Americans used this to describe themselves as hardcore men. Also N the replacement for the other version with the heavy r, as that is the one used by white people in general to denote black people into an animal. This is why it is still insulting for most black people (not necessarily Americans) to hear whites say N.
-
@Scarlet Pumpernickel, also the reason Cracker is not seen as much of bad word compared to N is because just like the new version of N without the r was used to describe a class difference between affluent whites and poor whites. It is only around the civil rights movement did it became a slur. At least in memory, I don't necessarily remember and I would encourage for you to research if you are curious about it. But in conclusion the word cracker doesnt have the history yet or at least an equivalent to the history of the N to a viable controversy.

@Scarlet Pumpernickel, that's not always true. I'm one of the whitest guys somebody can know and in my first job there weren't many white guys. Once I got comfortable with everybody else I would casually slip in a "n!gga" in conversation from time to time. They always got a kick out of it because you'd never expect it from someone like me and I always dramatized it like Dave Chappelle. I legitimately did say "N!GGA pleeease" once lol. Now using the -er version of the word? I don't do that.
-
@Scarlet Pumpernickel, because you have to earn the right to use the word. And most white people havenāt . Some have, and some of them use it cuz they are around people who know they earned it. There are usually just as many black people who havenāt earned the right, and they donāt say it either.
-
@Scarlet Pumpernickel, a Group of me hang out together and call each other f@gs, pu$$ies, b!tches, idiots, morons, stupid, c0cksuckers, and more. Everyone laughs they remain friends. Stranger calls one of those men on or two of those names and they are ready to fight. Can you understand the difference there? Now imagine the word is a word that has been used for centuries by the people who have raped, murdered, tortured, you and your family. Add the realization that that word was their way of calling you less than them. Dehumanizing you as they treat you like cattle. Does that help?
-
@Scarlet Pumpernickel, alright, as someone who is black and white Iāll explain this real quick, because most donāt get it. Everybody black person feels different about the word. Some hate when anybody says it, some hate when white people say it but are fine with other minorities, some are fine with anybody saying it. It honestly depends on which person you are asking. It may sound stupidly hypocritical to you (and I can understand why) but I think that hypocrisy can get confusing when it comes to things that may seem inherently equal but arenāt. For me personally, it depends on the person who says the word every time, itās a bit silly and I can acknowledge that. But anyway, what Iām getting to is this the reason why it gets some people is because of all that is behind the word. Family ancestry and so on. Knowing that someone once treated a member of my family like someone worthless and may have brutalized them, or raped them or whatever else with most likely no consequences is painful.
-
@timofborg, still within our power. If the left and the black comminity really wanted to they could make n!gger a meamingless word or change the meaning by simply having people of every race use the word N!gger as something other than a slur. And if they got enough people doing it for long enough time the racial overtones would disapear pretty quick. But they dont for political exoediancy and fake moral outrage.

@Firefighter95, both are bad, and both allow someone to pull the victim card over a word, but cracker Conjures an image of ritz crackers or saltines in the collective American consciousness while the other conjures a 200 year history of slavery and hate that will never fully heal. 1: āyouāre a ritz cracker you stupid, salty, delicious empty calorieā 2: āyou are worse than dirt, I want to capture you by force and sell you to someone who will beat you like a dog in one of those Sarah mcglocklin commercials you disgusting animalā
-
@liberachi , its all about intent of the word, no one uses the term "cracker" towards a white person as a derogitory term as a way to compare them to a delicious snack, they are comparing the color of skin. Im not saying the other word is worse or that cracker is as bad, but that cracker is still at a level of bad.
-
@liberachi , "that will never fully heal" unless, you know, blacks just decide to stop pretending to have any connection to an event where no one involved can physically be alive today? That would fully heal it pretty damn fast, oh but MUH BLACK HISTORY! Yeah, anyone who says it's Republicans and not Dems like you holding black people down is a moron.
-
Why do white people have to get upset because they can't say the N word. Just don't say it, stop complaining "b...b...but black people Can say it". I'm white, I've gone 24 years of life and nothing has been worse because I couldn't say the N word. Obviously not all Black people feel this way but if it makes a large demographic feel uncomfortable because you say a word then why not just never say it? Also cracker isn't an insult. Louis C.K. Said it best, I've never been taken back or upset if someone called me a cracker. Even if they did it while angry, it wouldn't upset me in the slightest. White people dont have any word that degrades them specifically, only a word that would degrade anyone of any race, age, sex, etc also offend me. That's my white privilege. I'm not rich but I also can't be degraded by one specific direct word.
-
@Captain Swordsman, lol didn't realize I should have so much white pride. I'm a proud American and a proud Italian, who has enough self awareness to see That I'm lucky to be white in a county (USA) where I gain advantages other demographics unfortunately don't. Maybe in exchange I could not say a racial slur And not complain that others get to.
-
@Captain Swordsman, don't talk sensitive to me. You're the one who needs a safe space while holding your guns tight because the scary liberals are trying to make it so you have to accept others as equals. And yeah I'll upvote my own comment and downvote your because I am great and you're a piece of sh*t. Check yourself buddy, having white privilege in America doesn't mean someone can't be middle or lower class. It isn't something white people have that is is enjoyable either. It is the often hidden and transparent preference that is often difficult to address because people like yourself shut it down without actually taking a moment to think. Anthropologists, sociologists, as economists (all scientists that study human behavior) have proven countless times that White people get preferential treatment.
-
@Captain Swordsman, The school thing is also not true. It's the difference between numbers and percentages. If by your logic then men shouldn't get preferential treatment. UCLA did a study showing that if all public colleges didn't meet the diversity percentages then public colleges would be made up of 87% women because more often women are better students and have more credentials meeting the needs for admission. But thatd be crazy unfair for men who apply so these demographic percentage needs were put into place for pubic colleges.
-
@JakeWithTheJeep, I already treat people as equals, you piece of trash, until they start acting like subhuman pieces of garbage like you. You're the one who needs a safe space because of people challenging your ideas of muh white privilege, get your perception of reality is so warped that you can't even tell that you're the sensitive piece of trash that needs that safe space.
-
@Captain Swordsman, good reply using my words back at me. My reality of white privileged is to actually see it, learn from it, and become a contributing member of society rather than pushing it down, suppressing it, closing my eyes and hoping people don't ask me to change because it makes me uncomfortable. My ideas aren't being challenged, they're the ones challenging the set up ideologies in America that you are holding onto do hard. Maybe you can live in a bunker where nothing ever changes because it scares you so much. I need the safe space? You are the sad weak snowflake who gets butthurt when someone try's to talk about equality. My impression of you: "B...b...but others say they aren't treated as equals as me, a white person. Well I as a white person can see that isn't true. Tell them to stop saying these things, I don't wanna think about it." *fires gun randomly in the air* *hides under blanket until the big bad scary liberals go away*
-
@JakeWithTheJeep, My impression of you: "W-w-what's that? It's been proven that the only kind of privilege in America is American privilege, everyone in the country has it, and anyone, regardless of race, gender, religion, or background will enjoy the privilege of middle class life in America if they finish high school, get married before having kids, and get a job? What do you mean white people have a higher probability of being abused and shot by police, even after adjusting for population? This doesn't make sense, this isn't what Tumblr taught me! White privilege! WHITE PRIVILEGE! STOP USING FACTS AND LOGIC, I SAID WHITE PRIVILEGE! WAAAAAAH!"
-
@JakeWithTheJeep, notice, too, that I'm not the one making you into some big boogeyman. The first person to talk about liberals was you. You even managed to find a way to bring gun ownership into this, making me into the "redneck unedumacated gun toter" stereotype despite having gone to college and never living in a rural area. Because what it all boils down to is that facts and reality don't matter to you, only your feelings. You can go ahead and get as many upvotes and have me get as many downvoted on this time killer app as your heart desires, because when the two of us put our phones down and start dealing with real life, my ability to accept reality and use facts will allow me to deal with it, but you should ask yourself where you'll be without those things.
-
@Captain Swordsman, lol I am not on tumblr. Also don't say you use facts, you literally just made up a fake fact. I've sited an actual study, yours just using whatever meme a FB group made up. Unless you got it off Fox News, then I'm sorry you were lied to. After adjusting for population percentage white people are shot less by police. More white People are shot by police in America but if adjusted for population percentage then they're not. Black People and Hispanic people are more so. Don't just make stuff up. Also yes, there is American privilege, I agree, there is just also white privilege as well. More things can exist you know? Lastly, I didn't mean to imply owning a gun was wrong in any way, I just picture someone like you shaking in your weak boots with rage when people try to fight for equality as if they're attacking you. The gun was just a metaphors as something you'd use for protection because you're such a weak POS. Insert a knife, or grenade instead if you will instead.
The only thing I never understood is why they call themselves that on a regular basis no problem, but if some white guy calls them that then they lose their shjt
