HERES SOME FUN, BLATANT MISINFORMATION!
Its voluntary and only being asked at specific events. Not even close to mandatory.
The point is to provide calmer environments for people with PTSD and mental disorders to attend events they wouldn't be able to otherwise.
@TheWhiteWolf, *jazz hands as a token of appreciation for your clarification*
@TheWhiteWolf, that's not as bad but still ugly
@TheWhiteWolf, the sheer amount of individuals using Jazz Hands is going to give me PTSD but I'll allow it.
@TheWhiteWolf, sir it's voluntary until social pressure gets to the unwilling participant. The the university "wonders why you're against such choices" and "why you don't share the same values and practices as they do."
Yeah... no, I have no faith this won't get somebody in trouble some day.
@Dephenistrator, “we want to be inclusive to people who need calmer environments so we have new rules for concerts: no one is allowed to scream or jump around and the music has to be at a safe 70bB or lower.”
@Sambob, fvcking a cousin is a relatively genetically safe thing to do, but society will still ostracize you if you do. Society enforces rules that while not mandatory will still cause you to be shunned of you dont follow.
The Jazz Hand gesture is the way the American deaf community expresses clapping
It is as visually vibrant as it is fun to do
@TheWhiteWolf, why do I feel like it was requested by people with PTSD from twitter
@Sambob, this is the most significant post I have read on this app, ever. The thin end of the wedge is real.. and the road to hell is paved with good intentions, etc. Let's hope you post makes people think. On the flip side, my autistic kids jump out of their skin to loud noises, so it seems like a good idea. But, as you say, once the majority are jazzing away and one person claps, the jumpy will jump and the clapper will get the death stare of thier life.
@Sambob, but isn't it social pressure that causes us to clap in most situations? Like oh it's a school pep I have to clap or people will think I don't care. Oh it's a play I have to clap to show appreciation because my presence doesn't already show my interest in what's happening.
@TheWhiteWolf, but, what about exposure therapy?
@Hot Coffee, then there are still standard events anyone can attend. This isnt for ever event the hold, just a small number, and for some people with autism they'll never be able to be in a room with that much noise and be able to stay calm no matter how much they're exposed to it
@TheWhiteWolf, you’re right, I was attempting humor, but written word is a poor conveyor of intent.
@Hot Coffee, fair. Sarcasm does get lost through the internet
“The policy was proposed in order to encourage the use of British Sign Language (BSL) clapping during our democratic events to make those events more accessible and inclusive for all. We are not banning audible clapping — we understand that some people may be more comfortable to continue using it.” - check out the Snopes on it for all the accurate info
