I understand why so many people don't like baseball. But trust me, playing it with a group of friends for the fun of the game like in the sandlot is one of the best sports experiences you can have. It is and always will be my favorite sport. Not for watching it, but for playing it.
Don't bother changing my mind
@Commander Peanuts, don’t get me wrong, I know it‘s fun to play as I used to play when I was a kid in the little leagues, and with my friends and family later on. But it’s no means a sport like Football, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis or decathlete. As they require you to possess cardiorespiratory endurance, power, muscular strength and endurance, balance, flexibility, and agility. In other words, a highly athletic athlete.
Whereas Baseball or Golf are more of a game or pastime. You can be out of shape or old and still be able to make it to the top. Just have enough skill
@ThorOdinnson, I'd argue it takes a good bit of physical skill to hit a 95mph fastball. Or to throw one for that matter. Not to mention running the bases takes a good bit of agility, throwing someone out takes accuracy, and you'd be really surprised how flexible catchers are. Pro players are definitely highly skilled. They just don't get the same attention because people don't have the attention spans to sit through 9 innings anymore.
@Commander Peanuts, that’s like saying “golf is a sport because a skilled guy can swing a club and hit a ball pretty close to a hole” I’m not saying they’re not skilled. I’m just saying their athletic skills are nowhere near on par with the other sports I’ve listed. Thus it’s not really a sport
@Commander Peanuts, Well.. Debatable. Babe Ruth was a fat drunkard who could hit a ball. Not exactly a Olympic athlete but certainly a lot of skill. Thor does make a point as do you.
And i agree. Playing Baseball is a lot of fun. Watching baseball is boring. Has always been boring. Will always be boring. Got nothing to do with attention span. To be fair i find Nascar and golf to be just as boring and tedious to watch.
Personally, The only sports i actually enjoy watching are Hockey, wrestling if you can call that a sport, and the martial sports i.e boxing, kickboxing etc. etc. I even find Football to be boring at times and only really watch the Superbowl because my family makes a big deal out of it and its a good way for me to get free food.
Again, nothing to do with attention span. Just what i personally find entertaining.
@ThorOdinnson, no because I disagree with that statement. I'm saying it takes legitimate athleticism to play professional baseball. Do you really think that the average person could compete on par with professional baseball players? Everything I listed in my original comment is proof to the contrary. An old man couldn't run the bases fast enough to not be thrown out, let alone steal a base. The average person could never run down a line drive to center field and throw it in to prevent a double in time. I don't know exactly why you don't see it, but I fundamentally disagree that baseball takes a similar level of athleticism as golf.
@ThorOdinnson, I hear where you’re coming from but c’mon man if it were that easy to make literal millions off baseball or golf we’d all be doing it.
As far as you’re response to what a real athlete is. We don’t look at how fast a swimmer can run a mile or how fast a football player can swim a lap.
Every sport requires a different skill set and comparing apples to oranges is irrelevant
@LaDarkProphet, that's true about babe ruth but I'd also argue he wouldn't be nearly as great today as he was in his prime.
As for the attention span, I get it. Some people don't find it interesting. I didn't really mean people don't like to watch it because of that. The point I was trying to make was that great players and great plays aren't as noticeable because they're bookended by the rest of the game. Not everyone on the field is constantly doing something. And sure, that could be an argument that it's not as entertaining, fine. But to say the game doesn't require athleticism I disagree. And to say it's not a sport is ridiculous
@Natural Sarcasm , "if we judged a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it would go its whole life thinking it's stupid." - Einstein, probably
@Commander Peanuts, lol wasn’t that Darwin?
@Natural Sarcasm , nah, supposedly it was Einstein. I only say "probably" and "supposedly" in case it's one of those quotes where you look it up and the internet is like "He DiDN't aCtuALly SAy tHaT."
@Commander Peanuts, how dare you speak your mind! And how dare you say that youre set in your ways! You must be a bigot! And the rest of the names they call people with opinions other than their own!
Honestly, i never cared for any sport other than football, and now i could care less about that either...but one sport i truly never understood was the ice game that involved a weight and some brooms or whatever...like seriously wth is that!?
@Commander Peanuts, your oppinion is bad and you should feel bad!
-someone who cares about sports probably.
@Commander Peanuts, because baseball is 90% mental and 10% physical. I have 2 sons. The 19 year old played tournament ball and my 12 year old plays tournament ball. Competitive to say the least.
@Commander Peanuts, I wouldn’t say the average person could play Baseball right off the bat (pun intended) but an average person has a better chance at getting into pro baseball than the other, more demanding sports. But hey, it’s cool that we don’t see eye to eye to the situation. If you like the game, then more power to you
Now BASEketball.... That's a sport!
@Tylerdurdin, your mom's going out wiiiith SQUEAK!
Its still better than football.
I told one of my coworkers who thought this, he was a basketball nut, to go and try the batting cages sometime. On Monday he came in, unable to move because trying to hit 90 mph fast balls made him throw out his back, lol. He never bad mouthed baseball again
It’s a sport, not the most exciting or adrenaline pumping but it’s a sport
@megamanx181x, I like baseball
@ TouchMyCatEars, its a chill sport to enjoy a hotdog and beer with random excitement
@megamanx181x, beer and nachos for me. Ok throw in some weiners too.
@ TouchMyCatEars, I knew you couldn’t pass up a hot thick wiener in your mouth...
@ TouchMyCatEars, at a girl
Facts it's boring as fvckkkkkkkkk
@GayShjtSniper, golf is worse. Curling should be a form of punishment made illegal by the Geneva Convention.
If you earn points by a set regulated way, it's a sport. If you earn points by judge decision, it's not a sport.
Not Sports: Cheerleading, Diving, Acrobatics
Boxing/fighting is a bit of a gray area
He obviously hasn't heard about taserball!
Then explain cricket
@Jakobian, 11 guys stand around rubbing their balls while 4 others watch
Sports are not at all important right now
an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.
"team sports such as baseball and soccer"
If NASCAR can be considered a sport, and so can fishing, then why can't baseball?
This is a bad pic and I consider it pointless
The hardest thing to do in sports is hit a 90mph fastball
I find most sports easy to get into with a group of people. You pick a team and go ape-shjt whenever something happens, it's a blast. Even curling gets exciting. The only sport I can say I find genuinely boring is golf.
“Blerns Ball fixed that.”
