Ben Shapiro is legit
@DarkRevolation , with college i haven't had time to listen to the podcasts in a couple of weeks, but yes, he makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
@DarkRevolation , he is the goat
@DarkRevolation , his best argument was about abortion. Some girl says "well what about abortion when someone is raped or incest" So Ben asks "OK let's agree to keep those and the rest of the abortions are bad, can we agree on that?" So of course she doesn't agree, and he points out she uses the most extreme example and a small minority as the basis for her whole argument.
I'm not a big fan of Shapiro, but my goodness are the opposition chants and posters just moronic. They just legitimize half of what Shapiro has to say in all his speeches
@Blue Shirted Guy, About a year ago my knee jerk reaction to politics would have been to listen to both sides and make a decision from there, but now I tend to just automatically side with Republicans. The Far Left has literally activated my lizard brain and I hate it.
@Chicochang, as someone who leans left, I probably hate the far left more than you do haha. Naturally I disagree with Shapiro on many topics, so it pains me to have to pick a side between someone I fundamentally disagree with and a bunch of college students that make a mockery of any liberal viewpoint.
It was this community that introduced me to Ben Shapiro, and one of the first videos I watched were a bunch of students screaming "shame" and "safety" at him. I was behind a screen and it still infuriated me. They're at an institution of higher learning and they are chanting Game of Thrones at a guest speaker
@Blue Shirted Guy, how could you possibly lean left and hate the left
@Overwatch Is Trash, I specified that I hate the far left. To be fair, I should be more specific by saying I hate "certain individuals" on the far left
@Blue Shirted Guy,
The Left, Liberals, Conservative, The Alt Right. Be smart. Dont be in the outer groups
@Blue Shirted Guy, what don't you like about him? I truly believe his points are about as middle of the road as you can get. Plus he always has legit facts to back up his arguments.
@TheSecretSavage, People disagree with the policies he supports, like being pro-life, but still agree with his moral stance on free speech and discourse. I've seen this a lot in his videos.
@Chicochang, be smarter. Don't be in GROUPS.
@Chicochang, I believe that if you're allll the way left or alllll the way to the right, you're absolutely crazy
@Blue Shirted Guy, little late to this convo but here is a little bit of info for you and anyone else interested, being a liberal or a conservative really does not matter, your views and opinions count and you and many others count themselves as part of the centre left/right (myself included into the right side slightly) and as you may have noticed the people who lean left (actual left not centre) are the people as of late who have shut down almost every conversation or debate that has "HARMFUL" opinions. I can't remember specifically who said it but "the best people to convert people to conservative are liberals" just the actions of sjw/feminist/socialist left has driven many to the right. Just an observation that I think some may find helpful.... or destructive depending on who reads this ...
@Chicochang, ah, I see. Just my phrasing. I mean I'm left of center, so "liberal," and by far-left I meant The Left. I don't like using these terms anyway because there's such a negative connotation with whatever you have to label yourself as
@TheSecretSavage, it's kind of hard to explain. Critika described it well, and that's definitely part of it, but it goes a bit further.
When you say "middle of the road," it seems to depend on the topic. Shapiro has a lot of hard-line right biases, which is inherently fine, but whether or not they interfere with the facts he's presenting seems to depend on the topic.
For instance, I watched a video of him criticizing Jews who vote democrat. Biases were visible, but a lot of his overall argument was at least supported with a ton of relevant, useful statistics. However, then came a video of him discussing global warming, and he came across as a witty version of Tomi Lahren. Then the middle ground was a video of him bashing Obama, which had a mix of BS and some fair points.
I know it sounds more like I'm bashing him, but it's truly hard to summarize my opinion of him without using a bunch of specific examples from a bunch of different topics (edit: also depends on his audience)
@another Aussie, ya, that's why I hate the labels haha. I just don't know how else to phrase it. In my head a see a line like Chicochang made, and I'd describe myself as leaning left of center. But the liberals and leftists being described as shutting down guys like Ben Shapiro from speaking aren't me, so the label of "liberal" would group me in with them
@Blue Shirted Guy, All I know about him is what I read on Wikipedia 2 minutes ago - if it’s accurate, I think you’re right that the people protesting him (he seems the have pissed off both Antifa and Alt-Right, which is quite an achievement) are idiots and worse than him.
@Blue Shirted Guy, did you just make a reasonable observation as a liberal? Blasphemy!
@Chicochang, why does the left get to be just the left but the right is the alt right? I don't get it
@Medic135, its what they've been labeled from the populace as a whole.
@Blue Shirted Guy, I get it. I swear this group labelling is getting rediculous. Its almost to tower of babel proportions
@Overwatch Is Trash, I lean right pretty heavily, but I hate the far right, the white supremacists, etc. It's not that hard. You have your own beliefs, but you don't have extremist beliefs.
The reality is that the only way this country can work is if the sane left and sane right work together. Both viewpoints are needed to keep the other in check. Both sides have lost that, and the extremists never had it.
@Blue Shirted Guy, he doesn't present nearly as many facts or statistics in global warming because there are none. global warming is fake news, there isn't anything else ben shapiro can say on the matter
As a UC Berkeley student, I really hate this. Honestly. I don't care if you're left or right. I don't care if you feel your right to free speech is being curbed. Stop using UC Berkeley as a political playground and making a shjt storm here; I don't feel safe anymore! Admittedly this isn't so much about Shapiro as certain *ahem* *ahem* other people.
And not just speakers! Protestors too! Many of them don't have any relation to the university and add a sum total of zero educational value to the university, actually causing harm and damages instead. The tuition I pay to learn is being used on security. And I'm not shaming the administration here; they have no choice, what are they going to do? Let the students into harms way? That too, they can't turn away student group endorsed speakers! Bottom line: not the administrations fault, but, push comes to shove I would have the UC Berkeley administrators turn down speakers.
@generic, The student senators voted to end Free Speech Week, not because they don't agree with Milo Yiannopolis, but because of student safety concerns. If you're presence leads to STUDENTS fearing for the safety of fellow students, you have no right to be here!
A university's priority is clearly education, and when speakers and protestors interfere with student's access to said higher education, they should take actions to condemn and prevent the interferences, even if it means denying speakers. And denying speakers' access to the university isn't curbing free speech! Go say whatever you want somewhere else, we're not stopping you! But don't interfere with our peace, our hope, our happiness.
@generic, *semitangent rant*
But free speech has to have a line. You can believe what you want. Speak out against laws you don't believe in. But shaming people? Indirectly inflicting psychological harm on people? Clearly the lawmakers of olden days didn't think people would be so lacking common decency. So what if this other person thinks differently from you? It's not affecting your life in any way. Really. So this biologically male person sees herself as a female. Do you suddenly feel physical pain like you're burning in h3ll because they exist? You naturally have the right to feel disgusted by it, if you are. You naturally have the right to say something about out it (though that's really a d!ck move). But you don't have the right to interfere with their lives and say you're not allowed to see yourself as a woman.
@generic, sorry for the ridiculously long rant. But clearly this whole situation feels counterproductive to me.
@eleven, forgive the copy pasta, but..
it's Ben Shapiro, he's a Jewish American activist/commentator among other things and I believe he considers himself libertarian, but either way he's worth listening to, very sharp mind on him.
@anzubar, he's conservative, but has succeeded a lot of libertarian ideals. He essentially would like to live in a conservative community, but says to each his own just leave me alone. Which is what everyone should think. Vote Libertarian ideals yall.
Someone explain please?
@theshadosnipe, it's Ben Shapiro, he's a Jewish American activist/commentator among other things and I believe he considers himself libertarian, but either way he's worth listening to, very sharp mind on him.
@anzubar, what does he comment on?
@theshadosnipe, politics** forgot to add that. He's one of those people that I might not always agree with but I enjoy listening to him because, unlike many people on all sides, he uses logic well and will actually point out logical fallacies and such.
@anzubar, I like those kinds of people. Not everyone has the same opinions, but if you stay rational about it it comes off far more mature
You know you could say it's not exactly free spech when Shapiro is being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to make speeches that insult large sections of the student body. The protestors are not just protesting his speech but protesting the university's decision to spend a ridiculous amount of money on this man who they don't want to hear speak because they know what he's going to say, he's very unoriginal when it comes to speaches.
