stupid meninists, its hard to go anywhere on the internet without them bringing up their objectification. i just want to enjoy my life
This is a bit of a false equivalency. While of course there are unrealistic standards for men and we also get objectified, I think the main issues are:
1) That the unrealistic standard for us is at least healthy. For women, I think the standard is more of a stick-like figure, that often leads many young women to develop eating disorders and the like.
2) Women are objectified outside of appropriate settings more frequently than men. The Hollister bag is an appropriate setting to show off a shirtless guy or half-naked girl. It's pure modeling. However, many females are portrayed like this in inappropriate settings. If you look through past ESPN covers, most of the ones that feature women have them wearing ridiculous attire for an ESPN cover (not counting the swimsuit edition).
Im not trying to say women have such terrible lives compared to men or anything, but let's not combat the far-left ridiculousness with false equivalences. Doesn't get us anywhere
@RustyFapwagon, Not really. When walking in a mall or watching tv how often do you see half naked men compared to half naked women?
On the marketing, it's pretty weak strategy. If someone coming up with an ad or comercial can't come up with anything better than a hot girl to sell their product, they suck at their job.
Men's bodies are never sexualized or "objectified" or whatever outside of some underwear and swimwear ads. While on the other hand, women are used in almost anything. Carl's jr and Hardees commercials are a prime example of that.
Also, your statistic on men having a higher suicide rate is true, but not for depression. Women are twice as likely to be depressed in the U.S and have had more reports of attempted suicide than men.
Listen, I don't think women have harder lives or are opressed or anything like that, but you can't say these aren't false equivalences.
@RustyFapwagon, You're not getting my point. Yes, using women's bodies will help sell product, but what im saying is it's sad that some companies can't be more creative than "hey look boobs". It's a cheap sell and it oversexualizes everything, which is quite obnoxious. As I said, a prime example is Carl Jrs and Hardees. It's unnecessary and it doesn't want to make me want to eat a burger.
Replying to your first comment (didn'r have enough room on my response): Maybe men having a higher suicide rate shows that women have better ways of handling their emotions. If more women are depressed than men, yet the men's suicide rate is higher, it means that women have better answers than "I'll just kill myself instead of deal with it". So you shouldn't say that they're "incable of handling their insecurities like some men"
While on the topic, it's asshole-ish of you to denounce attempted suicides as cries for attentions. Im sure that is the case for some, but you don't know everyone's story.
@RustyFapwagon, to add on to what K1lgore said - expecting all girls to have the hyperfit cardio look is to expect all guys to look like these models. They are both unrealistic standards, but the reason it's a false equivalency is because one standard has a much more detrimental effect than the other. You're just taking the standards at face value. Also, implying that any girl who doesn't have that look is "fat" is pretty low, and kinda proves my point.
And again, this isn't an argument about sexism or oppression or anything like that. Guys have standards that are very detrimental as well. For instance, our high suicide rate is partially due to the stigma against expressing our feelings and talking through our issues, when this is relatively more socially acceptable to do as a female. I'm pretty sure K1lgore is correct about the depressive rate, as that's what I'm reading.
@RustyFapwagon, the reason I hate false equivalences and saying things like "this is how sh*t works" is because it makes it harder to address legitimate social issues.
Women being told they are fat if they aren't hyper-thin is a legitimate problem that contributes to developing depressing eating disorders, etc. Some can handle it, but some can't, especially younger women and girls. But that doesn't mean women have it worse off than men. Men being told they are wimps for trying to express their issues to others contributes to them bottling it up and having suicidal thoughts. These things are only a competition for mindless people on the far ends of the social/political spectrum. Instead of comparing, we should all just try to improve things
@RustyFapwagon, I used to date someone who had anorexia, so first hand I can tell you that it's far more than just "they're a pussy if seeing someone skinny makes them feel sad". It's a mental disorder similar to depression and anxiety (it normally comes with those as a package deal). So again, you need to do research before denouncing things like this. It's makes you seem very ignorant.
@RustyFapwagon, you said "sorry fat chicks cant handle that," I guess I'm not sure what you meant?
Respectfully, this is why it's very hard to discuss anything with you. You didn't respond to any of my other comments, you just said my brief first statement (which didn't really contribute much to my overall point) was retarded.
@RustyFapwagon, Well, it's your word against mine. If you would like me to discredit the same way you do, I could say your friend was only doing that for attention.
For real tho, there are studies that prove it's a mental illness like depression. Denying it is like denying anxiety and depression. It's possible and probable that your friend didn't have the actual disease, but rather just wanted to look like those models in magazines and just took it too far.
Seriously, it's ignorant to discredit so much stuff. I agree that our society is too pc and coddling, but these mental illnesses exist.
Lastly, please let this be a respectful debate that doesn't end in calling everyone childish names like you did to Blue Shirted guy. Nobody will take you seriously nor should they.
@RustyFapwagon, Yeah, if you're gonna just keep saying stuff like that instead of giving actual arguments, we're done. Usually this place is better than the youtube comment section of a Trump vs Hilary video, not in this case
@RustyFapwagon, I wasn't trying to make a new point, just contribute to my existing one. First I pointed out the false equivalences, then explained to you why they were false equivalences, and then I gave my opinion as to why I dislike false equivalences and how they are detrimental.
I've told you in the past this is why I don't like to discuss things with you. You just use "retarded" and "fåggot" over and over again.
It's great you helped your friend, but implying that anorexia isn't a mental illness and that it can be cured by not coddling everyone is just so ignorant. It's near-impossible to have a meaningful discussion with you.
@RustyFapwagon, oy vey. Well alright Rusty. As always, have a good one!
@Blue Shirted Guy, i dont understand how a bag for a clothes store is an appropriate setting to display people with an annoying lack of clothes
And yes, that was all i got from your initial statement, sorry
@MCPO S117, haha I'll give you the cringy response - because these clothes stores are more about the brand and sex appeal than the clothes themselves. It seems more appropriate for a clothes/fashion store to sell sex than a restaurant or something. That's how we get a McChicken video. *shudders*
@Blue Shirted Guy, You should be a writer, your good at making stories. ;) Not once did they say that women who dont look that way are fat, I dont agree with them in general, but dont shove words in peoples texts.
@Blue Shirted Guy, u the real mvp
@RustyFapwagon, "Men typically kill themselves due to divorce and job loss. That's a majority of male suicides."
Where did you get these stats? Males are actually at a higher risk of suicide between ages 20-24 and 65+. Unless you count "retirement" as "job loss" and "death of a spouse" as "divorce" then I guess you're correct.
@K1lgore, bro you just went in real hard damn
@RustyFapwagon, "let this be a respectful debate" immediatly starts the next sentence with fæggot. I fvcking loled
@RustyFapwagon, are you saying that because women aren't "successful" in carrying out their suicide attempts mean it's a way to get attention?
@Blue Shirted Guy,
@Blue Shirted Guy, first off all of you guys are fycking retarded for even arguing on here..... (and yes I'm retarded for even spending my time on this... but hey, I also did a lot of blow last night) but after reading what Blue shirt "guy" wrote, he is probably the most dickless dude on this app. Don't projectile vomit your sjw bullshjt onto a comedic attempt to point out the very bullshjt you probably stand for (and just a helpful tip.... girls don't like manginas that say shjt like that, I'm sure the last time you touched a pyssy was when your face was sliding out of your moms twat when you were being birthed). The reality is..... America has been pussified over the last 3 decades which has resulted in the creation of pussyfegs like you. Either grow some shaft or dig a hole and blow your brains out with a shot gun.
@RustyFapwagon, Its kind of ignorant to lump together all the women who survived a suicide attempt as "attention seekers." So by your logic, anyone who was saved by someone else is seeking attention? Someone who jumped off a building or bridge and survived the landing was just "seeking attention?"Youre just spewing ignorance.
@RustyFapwagon, are you being serious, or are you seriously this horrible a human being. You have showed no empathy for woman, victims of suicide, and mental illnesses.in fact you've showed the opposite. A distaste for them.
@RustyFapwagon, Also who are you to say whether or not it is a mental illness. Have you actually ever expireinced it? No, so your knowledge of the matter is kinda pointless. All the people telling you they k ow others with anorexia, are saying it's a real thing, but out of pure spite you won't even listen to them. Swallow your pride dude
@RustyFapwagon, Okay, I'm tired of you repeating this whole 'women are either too stupid to kill themselves or they are doing it for attention' crap. Have you ever considered to look at the method behind how women commit suicide versus how men commit suicide? Do you ever look at your proposals and actually wonder how that all even makes sense? Here's a fact for you: men are much more likely to commit suicide by firearm or hanging. On the other hand, women are much more likely to commit suicide via overdosing on pills/drugs. This is likely a trend because men are more likely to own a gun. So you tell me who's gonna be more likely to live: the person who shot himself in the head, or the person who is attempting to overdose and takes a long time before succumbing to death? Rusty, it's annoying that you are looked up to by people in this community, yet you act so abhorrent and childish towards people who are having a friendly debate with you.
@Blue Shirted Guy, is there a reason you're always a cunt every time I see you comment on a picture? You may wear a blue shirt but you've got a white collar to be above the rest to the point you can't take a joke
@airguitarpro, he's not going to look at any other points. He won't understand any of these other viewpoints until they happen to someone he knows/loves/cares for- if then. He is just an un-empathetic trollz
@Medic135, Explain to me how Blue Shirted Guy came across as a c*nt. Give me an example. Quote him for me. Do so while looking at Rusty's responses to him. Give me an honest answer. Let's be honest: Blue is literally just arguing coherently and trying to have a friendly debate. He isn't trying to talk above anyone, but when he makes valid points and people, who are supposed to be respected members of this community, call him a f*ggot and a puss, then yeah, expect him to talk down to you because you sunk to name calling. At that point, he is literally above you in that argument because he is using facts and studies for his points while you chastise, name call, and attack his character.
@SchroedingerPussPuss, Yeah, he typically ignores most of my points or dismisses them without any proof that im wrong and then gets frustrated when he knows his arguments are weak or wrong and then he acts like a troll. I have debates with him all the time and it always ends in the same way
@airguitarpro, you're a cunt too
@Medic135, How? Explain to me.
@airguitarpro, because he started this meaningless debate over a meme on funny pics, and you both type essays for comments
@Medic135, Oh, and Rusty didn't type "essays" for comments? Nice, I see your bias now. This is a community, and Blue didn't start anything, he commented, on a post, which is what he is able and encouraged to do. I found his comment insightful, and he presented it in a respectful manner. Just because I am articulate and detailed in my responses, doesn't mean I'm a cunt. Stop being so anti-intellectual and grow up, friend.
@Blue Shirted Guy, I think the "stick-like figure" thing died in the late 2000's. Ever since then I'd say many female models have been very fit and healthy looking. Not starved and unrealistic.
@MCPO S117, it makes people look.
@K1lgore, I think those Carl's Jr. (and the like) work because it's the worst (and by worst I mean the ones that show things that have nothing to do with the product) commercials are the ones talked about most.
@airguitarpro, and I find you an unbearable cunt Rusty is muh boi
@K1lgore, you use to have a girlfriend? Color me impressed
@SeussAlmighty, ikr, I achieved the unachieveable
@K1lgore, You've come so far
@SeussAlmighty, if only I could pull it off again
@K1lgore, Same, brotha
@SeussAlmighty, Hey, we could date, it wouldn't be gay tho as long as we say no homo
@RustyFapwagon, see here is you're problem, you're spouting "statistics" that you made from things you've seen and saying that they count for all. It's an incredibly small minded view of things.
@K1lgore, *sees top comment is K1lgore replying to RustyFapWagon* Oh boy
@Blue Shirted Guy, the actual figures for male and female depression are probably very similar just men tend to try to hide it instead of admitting they are depressed and getting over it, causing higher rates of suicide.
@K1lgore, He just does it on purpose to piss you guys off, and get off his jollies. All of his comments, in any thread follows the exact same pattern.
@Blue Shirted Guy, just want you to know I really appreciate the way you laid it out. Very well said. I was gonna comment about how body shaming for men is a very real thing as well, I do bow to you for all your efforts in writing out what you did. Thanks.... and as a side note, skinny guys are justice so boys don't think you have to be buff or anything. Women love their bears and twigs, k?
@Dr Michael Oxlong, I wouldn't say it's dead but things have definitely improved! For you or whoever sees this comment, there's a very well done PBS documentary called "Dying to be Thin" about anorexia and other eating disorders.
@Frighthound, that wouldn't surprise me. Definitely seems plausible! I really hope that the stigma against men dies down / more men start getting themselves help when they need it. There's just so many fantastic resources now
@Nyxa, body shaming men is definitely an issue as well, it's just hard to cover everything without going off my main point. Thanks for the kind words!
@RustyFapwagon, you are such an unbelievably awful piece of shlt garbage person it baffles me.
@K1lgore, I've realised how much of a hypocrite rusty is. Nearly every comment of his is saying how Islam is shīt coz of its treatment of women ( which I agree with) but says all feminism is cancer and women getting the vote was bad.
I dont disagree really. Why are you using shirtless men to sell shirts? You're not advertising your product you're just using sex appeal. Not even gonna touch the unrealistic standards for women because that's a pretty prominent issue already.
Dat potato tho
@MrJojo, my thought exactly.
@MrJojo, it's just for scale...
"If men acted like women"
Why feminism is BS.
@ThaSmoothieKing, this is satire. What does it have to do with feminism?
Men...we are never correct or objectified. Thats why you always see beatiful women with ugly men. Women don't care if you look like a model. They only see whats on the inside.
@Phantom217, very wrong. Half the girls I f*cked didn't care about my feelings or what I do, they liked me for my looks for a quickie or two. That's it. It always goes both ways.
This is a very ancient repost from before the rediculus feminists invaded feminism, damn that's old
A women made this.
Is that a potato
Ambercrombie and Hollistee aren't cool anymore, so you men are safe from the perverted eyes
