boy scouts accept girls. Women are outraged. Proving there is no pleasing women no matter what men do.
Ok hi, eagle scout here. Here's what's up: boy scouts for a while lately have been in a really weird gray area for a lot of today's moral issues. Just a year or two ago they allowed scouts to be openly gay. But I digress. The issue, which the first paragraph touches on, is that there is legitimate value in the teachings of boy scouts. Did you know an eagle scout immediately gets a rank up in the military just for being an eagle scout? Now the girl scouts have some things in place that are similar. A girl scout with the gold award (Basically their equivalent of eagle) gets the same enlistment advanced ranking. The problem is boy scouts, and through that eagle scouts, are far more recognized. Tell people about an eagle scout and at the very least they know we can probably save your life. But who has even heard of ranks in girl scouts? It's just about the cookies right? And there's the thing. This translates to more than just outside opinions. Girl scout troops...
...will prioritize cookie sales and arts and crafts because they figure that's just what girl scouts is about. I've had girl scouts say to me "I wish we did half the stuff you boy scouts do." When in reality there's not much stopping their troop from doing it.
So here's my stand on the matter: let them join boy scouts. It's a whole lot easier than overhauling what it means to be a girl scout. Let them have their cookie pyramid scheme and let girls that want to have the leadership training, the resume seasoner, (Oh yeah, employer's eat that shjt up) and the adventurous experiences join boy scouts. But please for the love of god change the name. Like, really that would make this whole thing go away. Just change the name... or just like, take off the boy part. It's just... Just scouts. That works. Ok I'm done now.
@Commander Peanuts, man god bless you. I couldent for the life of me gleen anything from this pic. I dont know why but it wasnt clicking so thanks for the info.
@Commander Peanuts, so... You're saying overhaul boy scouts instead of overhauling girl scouts? The overall problem is that boy scouts are sellouts (have been for a while). soon the ranks won't mean anything anymore at this rate.
@Scarlet Pumpernickel, according to some older Eagle Scouts, at least they claim to be I don't know for certain, but this move was made because of legal pressure on the Boy Scouts in places like Cali where they have been slowly forced out of the ability to use public spaces. Now I personally think Girl Scouts should have just restructured since most of this push is from leftist, not to be confused with liberals, who want nothing more than to destroy the traditional values the Boy Scouts were founded on.
@Commander Peanuts, All of that makes sense but if they want to do things that boy scouts do why not just join a venture crew?
@Commander Peanuts, so, basically, it's okay for girls to have an exclusive "no boys allowed" club, but boys can't have an equivalent because it's unfair? Instead of, you know, restructuring the Girl Scouts, we have to literally get rid of the Boy Scouts, because, you know, fvck anyone who's male, right? I mean how DARE anyone try to have a Boy's anything, but oh girls can still have theirs, right?
Classic 21st century liberal. Fvck males, the end.
@Scarlet Pumpernickel, I'm saying that because its a lot easier to just change who's allowed in than it is to change a mindset that doesn't even have a concrete way to fix it. I'm not entirely sure how boy scouts have been sellouts but I don't see something like this hurting their core goal.
@Tab00Tim3Jump3r, venturing is great and many of them do, and while it does teach some of those skills and values, it's also harder to find one in some areas and it's much less recognized. And most importantly, its not nearly as in depth with a lot of those teachings. People poke fun at merit badges and summer camps, but wow there's so much to learn and teach in every little experience in boy scouts. But I do agree it's a really good model for some of the changes boy scouts could implement. And maybe the answer is venture scouts should just take the opportunity to become better than boy scouts and girl scouts. That would be fine by me.
@Captain Swordsman, I'm not saying that it's any better for girl scouts to be exclusive. I'm saying everyone should be able to capitalize on the opportunity that is boy scouts. I mean they've been around longer and didn't get all caught up in the cookie selling shjt. It's just a better experience to have. So what benefit does boy scouts being exclusively boys serve? If some girl wants to join boy scouts just because "she's not allowed and fvck the patriarchy!" Then no, that person doesn't deserve it. But there ARE girls who would legitimately benefit from the experience and I don't see any negatives to letting them in. And if boys want to go over to girl scouts for a similar reason then fine. They should let that happen too. But that's not a debate because boy scouts is objectively more desirable to be in.
@Commander Peanuts, so you're saying instead of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, we should have Survival Scouts and Cookie Scouts? I guess that makes sense.
@Captain Swordsman, pretty much, yep!
@Commander Peanuts, Felt the need to respond: I'm an Eagle Scout, and I %100 agree with you. My sister was in the Girl Scouts, and it just ... it sucks. No wonder they want to be in the Boy Scouts. More power to em', doesn't bother me.
"I cannot change my gender..."
That's where you're wrong, kiddo. Everyone's doing it these days.
I think it’s time for a merger of the Scouts. Let all kids learn from both sides, and choose their own preferences. This would also help teach independent thinking when we provide them what they can learn. Have the standard courses preside, but run mixed courses too
Why don’t they just make the Girl Scouts better so it’s the same experience for the girls as the boys are getting in the Boy Scouts, if you let girls into the Boy Scouts and vise versa, you will end up with pregnant Scouts
In England girls are allowed to join the [boy] Scouts but not the other way round. The Guides (Girl Scouts) are run very differently in a way that appeals to very girly girls and boys don’t want to join anyway. In summary Girls are sheltered and Boys are exposed to survival.
Am I being naive in thinking it would be more effective to address this issue from a different perspective and simply allow rank progression for both clubs in both areas?
@Alastor Rezel, get your filthy logic out of here you ignorant lettuce pancake
I feel like it’s not really a huge issue in that there’s nothing really lost by including girls. The focus is on survival skills and such, and there’s no real reason to segregate the genders other than a history of the same stereotyping.
