"It's because you didn't do it MY way" -Math teachers
@Xanyok, But it is the correct answer... simplified even...
@Xanyok, it may be because there is no space between the coma and the 2.5 so the math lab was reading it as one number. Is a bish like that.
@Ganjadalf the Green, You did see that there isn't a space between the comma and the fraction as well, right?
@Azekai, technically, they're only right if the question doesn't specify that it needs decimal or fraction.
@Qu9ke, I would argue there is one. But if there isn't... Well then my solution to the incorrect solution would be incorrect.
@Ganjadalf the Green, well if there is one then woops. I cant exactly confirm it myself.
@Qu9ke, we need to go deeper...I must go to the libraries of Gondor. Look for me in the spring young Master Qu9ke!!!
@Xanyok, it's wrong because the instructions in the back say to type as an integer or a fraction. 2.5 is not an integer
The question is in fractions therefote asks for the answer to a fraction.
Answering in a decimal based numbet shows you used a calculator (majority of the time). Nothing wrong with that at all.
@Majesticmoose00, came here to say this, usually these answers need to be set as fractions since that is the "most accurate" number, unless it specifies to round to x amount of decimals
@theguyeatingpaste, also correct! You can even see a bit of the end of the question where it asks for a fraction.
@Majesticmoose00, i think we may have just killed to joke here, onto the next picture to continue our rampage
@theguyeatingpaste, you guys are mathing so hard right now
@Majesticmoose00, My calculator does fractions.
@Majesticmoose00, it actually says to enter as an integer or fraction (piecing together what is partially shown in the pic). Since 2.5 is not an integer it is not acceptable.
@Majesticmoose00, you can actually make out behind the message that the answer could be either a fraction or intiger
@Majesticmoose00, You can actually see that it asks for an integer or fraction and 2.5 is neither
@That Wierd Person, ah, that's right, it's been a while since math class
@Majesticmoose00, the question asks for an integer or a fraction. So the person was right. However, there is some discrepancy about whether or not they entered a space after the comma.
@notMrWonka, No, 2.5 is not an integer because decimals are considered to not be integers
@notMrWonka, to be honest, I didn't expect that response
@That Wierd Person, ahh that's true.
@That Wierd Person, what was I supposed to do...argue a wrong point? Math terminology isn't my strong point. I remember integers having something to do with whole numbers, but I forgot that doesn't include decimals because they're infinite. So next time I'll shut up and think an extra ten seconds before I try to make a point.
@Majesticmoose00, do you know how many extra lines of code it takes to change it so it accepts both formats? Not even a full line. I've used this website for a class before, its garbage.
@notMrWonka, I wasn't trying to be mean, just mist if the the time I've commented on anything they've responded being an arsehole. I was actually thanking you a bit
@That Wierd Person, lol I didn't think that you were!
@notMrWonka, yeah they're are some arsehole on this app, glad to see your not one if them
@Majesticmoose00, so you can't use a calculator?
It says "type an integer or a fraction". Last time I checked 2.5 was neither an integer nor a fraction.
@I am a horse, even so a teacher would've given partial credit. I could be wrong but I don't think there's anything significant about differentiating between decimals and fractions.
Yeah. Fvck college math.
Ugh... Web assign... The worst nightmare of all college students
I remember using this website. Basically every time you put in the answer(right or wrong), it would say incorrect
Arguing with the gf like
Mymathlab is atrocious. Mathxl is the work of SAYTEN
I remember using a crappy program like that for a Psychological Statistics course. It would mark my answer as incorrect even though it was 100% correct. Or the question would be very vague in what it was looking for, and I would lose points for each question I assume it is asking.
@Tall Fly Guy, Is it Aplia? I had to use that for my class. It was horrible.
@Sappho, Yep! That's the name. I was so fed up with it that I just Googled the answers. Aplia was not worth my or anyone's time.
lol MathXL. If ur in college, hope you never have to deal with it.
This is why so many people drop out.
@Alex Ovechkin, I've been trying to hold it together these last two years. There are so many curveballs you have to dodge in order to survive college.
I am a mathematician
I'm a math major and I've had to work with this software before. It's horrid.
I hate that program with a burning passion.
Fvck you Pearson
"Turn into an Interger or fraction"
Read the instructions, the tiny blue letters under the answer box.
Well fvck you too
I see people paying other types of websites, but this is mystatlab. It sucks beyond comprehension and does this on at least 1/10 questions. It will say 'simplify to an integer or decimal' then give you this bs
I was just doing this question on my Pearson when I saw this.....
Welcome to MyMathLab. Correct answers are both wrong and right.
As a math tutor. I've seen this stupid program way to many times.
Did you know that Pythagoras once banned a student of his because the student pointed out that a triangle with legs 1 unit long would produce a hypotenuse of sqrt(2)?
Pythagoras didn't believe in the square root of 2 because it wasn't a perfect number. He basically said "decimals? Get out."
Also he invented the modern music scale. And died in a field of beans.
@platinum turkey , he didn't ban the student...the student was put on a boat, the boat was pushed out into the sea, and then the boat was set on fire. Basically a Viking funeral, but he was alive.
*cries self to sleep when he realizes that this one question would've gotten him into Princeton*
You always gotta simplify bro
@rockinrocks9, that is simplified
@the toast rider, no it isn't. Reading directions is important. It says an integer or a fraction.
@talmet, 2.5 is neither.
Online math is the reason I have a chance of failing classes
