[Unrelated to this post, but very important]
To all Americans on this app:
Don't let the FCC destroy the internet. Call your senators. Write letters. Do anything you can, just DO SOMETHING. Text 'resist' to 504-09 to get help writing a letter to your senator. Or go online to gofccyourself.com for additional ways you can help.
Or just google it.
It doesn't matter who you voted for. It doesn't matter what political party you support. It doesn't matter how tired you are of hearing about it. THIS WILL AFFECT YOU.
Do something about it.
@Devils Avocado, imo why should the government enforce "equal bandwidth" for all websites when websites don't treat us equally. I mean why should one side be the equaliser when the other just stomps on others.
Don't get me wrong but this whole situation reminds me of what happened long ago with telephone companies. From what I learned bell telephone used to control the whole market for calling people, the one day someone was like nope not tolerating this shlt. Imm not sure what its like for other countries but i think its not like what we have here in America
@Devils Avocado, also there's, I think, no stipulation on the required speeds that all websites have to run at so the isps can just lower the speed over time with the governments protection
@raycwa421, I’m not sure what you mean by websites not treating us equally. Different websites may load slower based on how well designed they are and how much they pay domain hosts, but that’s not websites treating anyone unequally – everyone gets the same load time when overall bandwidth speeds are held constant. On the other side of the coin, you may have a lesser plan from a company, but that means all websites load slower.
The problem with net neutrality is that different internet providers can provide different bandwidths for different websites and charge for that difference. You want Netflix? You’ll need the gold package for that. Or, you want Google? I’m sorry, AT&T is partnered with Bing, so you’ll have to switch to Comcast if you want to Google it. Stuff like that’s the problem and is not okay.
@raycwa421, This also isn’t like Bell at all. Bell Telephone, or AT&T when the break up happened, was a single monopoly on telecommunications which was broken up into regional “Baby Bells” after the USJD sued them inter anti-trust laws and won.
The current internet provider market is nothing like that and FCC’s net neutrality regulations aren’t anything like anti-trust laws. There are multiple, independent providers of internet services competing for market share. The net neutrality laws are consumer protection in that they ensure that each firm has to provide the same product (that is, the same websites and the internet as a uniform body) rather than each firm monopolizing over different sectors of the internet.
@Devils Avocado, net neutrality is a libtard smokescreen operation to obtain government control over the internet so they can suppress all those who oppose them.
@Bobaganusche88, troll much? Lol
@Dex the Lumberjack, Literally H3H3 had a great segment that talks about net neutrality. They also found that the people who didnt support it were the ones that didnt actually understand what it was because they only thought it was government control. Rather than what actually is. Prevents internet providers from slowing your connecting to services you pay for.
@raycwa421, you are partially correct. The FCC got their hands into the telephone companies because they could restrict you from calling business or competitors of their choice. It was protecting your freedom to use the service you paid for and keeping a business from using shady business practices.
