@dusty44, they are still used here in Alaska. My grandma used to make them before her hands got feeble and weak. The time, dedication, and love she had for it was shown in her work. They are warm as heck too, and since where I grew up had no trees, they were really useful during blizzards and traveling far for hunting or getting ice. When the person who had the coat out grew it, they passed it on to the next generation. When taken care of properly and "breath life into it" they last a looong time. There is a black bear parka in its fifth generation. Sooo... yeaaa.... ...
