Sucks the movie sucked... i had high hopes.
@All my Mizore, I intentionally had low hopes. It still disappointed.
@All my Mizore, if the anime didn't exist it would be a great movie. The problem is the anime is so good that a different take on the concept is ruined at inception.
@All my Mizore, to be fair, it's still one of the best live action anime adaptations. Still garbage but better than dragonball evolution
@Psyknis, actually, it got really low scores even from non anime/manga fans
@MeddlingKid, to be fair, a large portion of the negative reviews either reference it's manga/anime origins (even though those people admit to never seeing/reading either) or they complain of the whitewashing nonsense. Because Death Note is so wildly popular, heck it's even the premise of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" song, it's nearly impossible to find an unbiased review.
@Psyknis, It was a decent movie on its own. I watched it without trying to compare it to the anime. I've learned that when a movie has the name of a book or show you like. Always watch it as a tribute to the book or show. Not a recreation. This helps a lot.
So when you compare this movie to the show it really sucks. But if you hold it as it's own work. It's not bad. The show was more of an intellectual battle. The movie didn't do that as much. But still was still ok.
That said I think the actor who played L over acted the character. And they should've been less like twilight with the girl who played Lights girlfriend.
@Psyknis, treating movies made from books or TV shows as a tribute to them. Is the mindset on preparing myself for when Ready Player One releases.
There's absolutely no way that they can make that movie just like the book. I'm just gonna come out and say it now that any fan of the book that complains that the movie isn't like the book. Is a F0cking Retard.
I say this because if they weren't a retard they would know that because of all of the references the book has it would be impossible to get the rights to them all. So they will have to adapt it. If they want to complain that it's a bad movie then that's fine, but if their complaint is that it doesn't follow the book perfectly then they are what I said above.
Im usually not one to result to name calling but as huge fan of the book. Its top of my list favorite. I'm not so stupid that I don't understand theres no way that book can be made perfectly into a movie. Anyone that complains its bad based in that merit alone is an idiot
@All my Mizore, I'm worried about fma
The cake is a lie
The movie was a good movie but not a good DEATH NOTE movie
On a side note, anyone interested in the new netflix Death Note? I think it looks pretty good, although i never saw the anime. I know people complain about the changes in characters but i always think a new take on something can be refreshing
@gettinitfosho, I'm looking forward to it. It looks like they're doing a full-blown adaptation, willing to make changes where necessary, not pandering to anyone.
Plus, Willem Dafoe as a death God. Fvck yeah.
Eh, to me whenever people do that type of stuff it just feels like self indulgent fanfiction...
I say that if you want to write your own story, WRITE YOUR OWN STORY. Instead they went off Death Note's IP and /even called it "Death Note"/ (ie nothing to differ it by name, at all)
@gettinitfosho, I feel like they almost intentionally changed every character to the polar opposite of the anime. Part of what made it so awesome was their personalities and it kinda ruined it for me.
Don't forget the serial killer has a god complex
I just recently got around to watching Death Note and I'm really enjoying it. On another note, I'm not reading any responses to this because I know there are people out there who love to spoil.
@Bowie Stars, Top tier anime right there.
@Bowie Stars, at one point the tired guy with bags under his eyes eats cake.
@Bowie Stars, at one point the serial killer takes a potato chip and eats it
@Cloverleaf, But not the guy staring at him
@Condrolla , I love that part
@Smo Queed, It is top tier, much agreed. I finished it and someone replied and reminded me of this comment.
@Cloverleaf, It's my favorite part.
Take a note. Watch the anime. Dont watch the new netflix movie. It doesnt do justice to the anime.
Did it bother anyone else that there was really no feasible reason to suspect Light? Or that there was really nothing that pointed to foul play at all?
I fucjing love deathnote
So anyone that saw the anime AND then the Netflix movie, what did you think of the movie? I personally think it was amazing for a live action. Which means it was good but not amazing.
@Dephenistrator, I like the anime/manga, but I thought the movie was trash. Both in the sense that it completely changed and ruined death note and as a movie by itself if the anime hadn't existed, it would still be bad.
Netflix needs to consolidate it's funds to just a few good movies instead of tons of bad movies
