No everyone was being greedy. Some reports show Disney being much more reasonable, but comes down to both wanting a few more millions.
@The Freaking FBI, as I understand it the existing deal was that Sony pays for the movie and receives the box office winnings while Disney gets merchandising rights. Sony broke away because Disney wanted a cut of the box office as well. Unless I missed something then imo it’s all on Disney
@BearDaniels, well, Disney does pay a bit for the movies, but if I remember correctly Sony has to pay anyone licenced by them, so Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal, etc, but Disney pays RDJ and stuff, so they were asking for 50%, but some newer reports say it was actually 25%, but still it boils down to both companies not wanting to give up some of the millions they make.
@BearDaniels, original deal was Sony funds it, Disney makes the them. Disney gets 5% of day 1 earnings and all merch profits, Sony gets the rest of the earnings. Disney wanted to go 50/50 on funding and earnings. Sony said no.
@ NotDesu, I understand that. I wouldn’t want to split the production cost 50/50 either because it would make every movie a damn budget negotiation. Disney wants to make the movie for X dollars and Sony wants to make it for Y dollars. Whoever wins has to put up the other half even if they don’t agree with the budget. If one company pays for it all there’s no debate.
I just want spiderman back to finish the story and I would love to see spidey with deadpool, xmen, avengers, and fantastic four.
@crazysheep, but Spider-Man and Venom
@Toxia, yeah. I saw venom recently. Only recently because I thought it was going to be bad but I was mistaken. I was highly mistaken. I would love to see spidey vs venom. But if spidey cant I would like to see venom vs carnage or something like that.
@crazysheep, there’s rumors of a new deal where Sony is agreeing to give Disney Spider-Man back for like 7 movies as long as they agree to put Venom in the MCU
@julian0027, cool. Venom in the mcu would be awesome.
@julian0027, I heard this rumor too, God I hope it's true
@crazysheep, Carnage specifically, but the symbiote part of marvel is my favorite :)
@crazysheep, *insert open-mouth Pikachu meme* what...? I generally love movies, even movies that are objectively bad lol but venom is one of the few movies I can remember being genuinely angry about how bad it was
Idgaf about Sony. I want Spider-Man in the mcu
All those companies are the same.
@ThePandaPool , oh boy trillions of dollars telling another stack of trillions of dollars that they don’t want to spend millions of dollars. So relateable
@Richard Cypher, ikr?
Fvck's sake, Sony isn't some underdog hero. They're just another greedy, powerful company making another practical business decision. They're not "standing up to Disney," they're sitting back and smoking cigars with Disney.
Most likely this is a stunt from both companies to make us cheer when they "reach an agreement" so that we'll definitely see or buy anything related to Spiderman
I don't want a turf war, I want Spiderman!
Fück Sony. They’re just as bad business wise, and they make worse content.
Disney should just sell star wars. use some of that money to buy the spiderman universe from sony and then use the rest to make an actually watchable venom movie. sony did a real good job of ruining my favorite comic book character twice.
Didnt disney go back on their deal?
