I’m going with that orc barbarian doing more damage with his two hits than the 8d6 cubicle dwelling sorcerer.
@DaSchlappah, 48dmg max vs 34dmg max. Even on average 28vs23.
The main reason is just getting to roll more dice at the problem.
@That one lurker, does that take into account the +3 Sword of Pokey Stabby Hackenslash, and the Girdle of Rainbow Cloud Giant strength? Or are you just basing it on a plan vanilla flavored orc barbarian with a plain old sword?
@DaSchlappah, I made it be a basic great axe 1d12 +5 from a 20 strength. If we're going for the great sword of Pokey Stabby Hackenslash +3, with the Girdle. You'd get a single attack with str 27 on 2d6 +11 or +13 while raging. So 18av 23max or 20av 25max. Or two hits for 36av 46max or 40av 50max
Which is still less reliable then an 8d6 fireball coming from a sorcerer, who can meta magic maximise. Which gets you the highest roll possible on the dice.
I feel bad for the orc.
@That one lurker, oh the things you know Lurker!
@That one lurker, i hate that i understood that
@DaSchlappah, I think you're also forgetting that fireball has a massive aoe and will hit many people
@That one lurker, Don't go forgetting the Power Attack feat (or counterpart). If we're talking Pathfinder rules, that's a +6 on each attack at level 6, when the barbarian would get his second attack. And he can go all day, whereas the sorcerer only gets a couple fireballs per day.
@TheKen42, I honestly prefer Pathfinder. But the system they're talking about is dnd 5e. Since they're getting a lot of stuff at 5th lvl.
@That one lurker, but here’s the one things you’re missing....who’s gonna win initiative? I’m not familiar with 5thE rules, stats, or anything like that, last time I played was in 93. Definitely been thinking about picking it up again.
@Fallout267, but is that always a good thing though? I’ve always believed the more people you piss in combat, the worse off you are.😂
@That one lurker, Ah, then the counterpart would be Great Weapon Master
@DaSchlappah, 5e's a lot more simplified then 2e. Instead of having separate charts for the statistics, you have base numbers. So 10 is avg so gets a +0, but you get a +1 at 12. Rather then the 16 dex in 2e to get a +1 to initiative, you just need a 12 in sex. :/
@That one lurker, um....was the end of that supposed to be “need a 12 in dex”? If it wasn’t, then the game has changed wwwwaaayyyy more than I thought.😂
@DaSchlappah, lol, yeah, it's supposed to be Dex. But f@ck it. It's already up lol
Sounds more impressive when you phrase it like “I’ve doubled my damage output.”
It’s the little things that matter
I've been playing Pathfinder for years, always some sort of magic class. I enjoy them all. But in my last campaign I played an Antipaladin archetype that loses spells to gain an aura instead. I had a two handed sword, and it's the most fun I've had playing a character ever. Get those fear effects going too and it's so, so gross. Can't wait to revisit that guy.
