This song is a good example of how the perception of something can transform drastically when the moral focus of a society shifts. What the song is about hasn't changed, but the way people listen to it has. I feel like the move to cancel the song is, on a subconscious level, less about people genuinely thinking its r*pey and wanting it removed, and more about expressing through action that they are part of the current societal good guys. What better song than one that we only hear one month out of the year? It is what it is, we humans are an inconsistent and fairly illogical species.
@slug111, Well of course mankind is inconsistent. One could hardly expect to get 7+ billion people on the same page.
@slug111, i hate humans.
I can’t think of a single local radio station that’s pulled “Baby It’s Cold Outside” from their Christmas playlists, and I know Spotify hasn’t either. That being said, I’d be happy to see it go- not because I think it’s about date rape, but because it’s a stupid earworm that always gets stuck in my freakin’ head.
@Kyroll, edit: oops meant to cancle not send. sorry
Welcome to the new age of social "consciousness", where trying to totally destroy someone's credibility, livelihood, etc. for a single mistake is becoming more and more the norm. The best way to describe the utter fallacy of this shift is "Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.".
@Funny Pics Janitor, i actively tell myself fvck your beliefs and emotions they dont mean anything. Facts are were its at.
@Funny Pics Janitor, always has been
@Cuactemoc4919, you’re just all positive vibes, ain’t ya
I agree with this cause “baby it’s cold outside” is very offensive and it promotes the rape of women and shows that all men r evil but when cardi b victimizes men and tells ppl to eat her ass and some of the most vulgar shït you’ll ever hear in music it’s empowering because all women r strong and brave (I really wish there was a font for sarcasm because I feel like some ppl aren’t gonna pick up on it no matter how thick I lay it on)
@Jdrawer, can u expand on that reply
@bobbylupo, It's the sarcasm tag. You append it to your messages to indicate sarcasm.
@Jdrawer, oh my bad for not including it so is that y u disagree with my statement or is it something else
Cause it's about pressuring a woman to stay....
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, lol right? At least Cardi B consents to ass eating
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, It’s about flirting.
@Commander Peanuts, yeah, not a fan of hers, but for some women who like it, have said the song is empowering for women.
@Weird Porn Stash, yeah no... The new consensus, is the song, is about rape.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, Who exactly took this consensus? What was their control group? What qualifies them to interpret the lyrics a song written decades ago? Just curious. Also it's interesting that no one seems to have a problem with the female equivalent of a rapist making millions on a song about ass eating. Even going so far as to call it "female empowerment".
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, yeah no. The consensus is that it's flirting. Only a small but loud minority of people are ridiculous enough to think it's about rape.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, Ok. The “new consensus” can say whatever the hell it wants, but considering this isn’t some kind of scientific discussion where new evidence can be discovered through research and testing, is has less than zero weight and is just an opinion. An opinion made by people that tend to take things so blunt and literally that they chafe their fvcking brains.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, "new consensus" 😅
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, just like the consensus of English teachers is that a blue drape represents the authors longing to sail the seas... if it’s not obvious I’m saying they are idiots
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, about talking to a woman he is interested in and asking her to stay. Yes. He is asking. They are talking.
He isn't pressuring her. He isn't bullying her. They are being flirty. And a part of her wants to stay too. That's why she hasn't left yet.
Women today sing about far more sexist crap against women than this song.
@RogueKnight, I mean we're all free to extrapolate our own interpretation, of lyrics in music. Like this song, or the Police's Every Breathe You Take.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, besides the pressure is literally just “baby it’s cold outside” for every single thing she says. In no way does it imply in the slightest she was being forced or even pressured it just says he claimed it was cold but warm inside and she gave weak excuses showing she wasn’t against the idea at all.
This would be the lamest example of peer pressure it would be like someone just saying you should smoke crack you say ”no it’s wack” they say “buddy it sucks outside” you say “it’s expensive” they say “buddy it sucks outside” you say “my family would be disappointed” they say “buddy it sucks outside” then you give in...
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, agreed. But just because you interpret the song as being creepy doesn't mean it actually is. Yet people who decide to interpret this song is creepy I've also decided it doesn't need to play on the radio because of how they interpret the song.
If there were song that specifically and clearly talked about raping someone, that would be different.
@RogueKnight, it has a rapey vibe to it though, at least for me a other folks.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, Okay. That's your interpretation. That doesn't mean the song needs to come off the air.
I take it as two people who like eachother flirting. He is trying to convince her to stay and she wants to but is concerned about how people who misinterpret songs would see it.
I find it funny how people fight so hard against this song but then say nothing about songs that talk about actually raping women or killing cops or pimping women out.
@RogueKnight, cool, but if the program director of any radio station decides to not air the song anymore. That's their choice.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, wish they only did because a bunch of stupid people fought to get the song off the air based on their own interpretation of it. everybody's got to have some sort of crusade. And instead of picking a legitimate one they have to you something extremely subjective just because they have a pervy mind.
Mind you there's been multiple women that have that song on their Christmas album... Women who if it was about rape wouldn't have anything to do with that song.
Maybe I'll start interpreting jingle bells as being about a getting a bj from a gal during a sleigh ride and having to tell her to pay attention to the "bells". Want to help me get it taken off the air?
@RogueKnight, I mean go for it, no ones stopping you.
Just understand that we're arguing whether or a not a 67 year old song, should be allowed to play on the radio, does it really matter? No not really, I don't care if it plays or not, if anyone cares that much, just listen to it privately.
@Weird Porn Stash, see you’re one of those toxic males that doesn’t realize that any form of flirting is attempted rape and it needs to be stopped every man should have a woman sign a formal contract showing consent b4 he even speaks to her
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, I’m so tired of hearing about this empowering bs it’s got to the point that woman use the word empowering to excuse anything they do... I only murdered my husband and set his family’s house on fire with them still in it because he didn’t say I love u today I’m just empowering myself
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, well the consensus also states that cardi b is a criminal that should be in prison so once they lock her up we’ll cancel the song
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, or. Even better. You can just change the channel if you don't want to hear it. Why ruin it for everyone else?
@EVILdrPORKCHOP3, well that’s the problem for some reason the very small minority is doing all of the talking and threatening anyone that doesn’t agree with them
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, have you seen Charlie and the chocolate factory? Don’t it’s also “apey” with an R
@RogueKnight, “I’m trying to find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful... damn yous a sexy bitch” but that songs totally ok
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, your name has a rapey vibe to me so I demand u change it... since someone is offended by it r u gonna practice what u preach and change it?
@RogueKnight, immortal technique dance with the devil... never heard any complaints about that
@bobbylupo, nah, cause there isn't anything you can do to make me change it.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, and there’s something 1 person can do to get this song off the air?
@bobbylupo, yup, they're known as the program director, they can let their radio DJ's know, to stop playing the song.
Also the iHeart can probably send out a memo to their owned stations to stop playing the song, if they choose too and there wouldn't be anything we could do about it.
@bobbylupo, he’s right guys stupid people normally get their way that’s why the song was removed, that’s why depp faced all the crap from heard with no evidence, that’s why covid is still running rampant in America... stupid people don’t care about the truth or facts or even logic much less other people
@George Feeny, normally I don’t like to have a debate where instead of actually debating I just end up calling the other person an idiot but this whole cancel culture thing going on and the antivaxers and antimaskers things are just so beyond stupid I can’t even have a debate with them.
Dealing with any of those three groups is like the Patrick meme where the villains trying to be good and return Patrick’s wallet and proves in several ways that it’s Patrick’s and Patrick still claims it’s not his. You just can’t argue with that kind of mindless stupidity. It’s the true reason the song was removed not the leaders agreeing the song was “rapey” but they just got fed up listening to stupid people calling in nomstop
@KermitSmash, female equivalent of a rapist is called "a rapist"
@Strawberry Milk, That would make sense, however from what I understand in most situations the law defines actual rape as forcible sexual penetration. This makes it difficult to charge a woman with actual rape, they would normally get off with sexual assault or misconduct. Besides that, Cardi B drugged men with the intent of robbing them rather than assaulting them, so what she did doesn't exactly qualify as sexual assault, but the violation those men experienced must've felt akin to rape. I can see your point, I just tend dwell on the semantics.
@Pervy Sage Jiraiya, I like how some women feel empowered by Cardi B, and that comment for downvoted, I ask why? Who are we to decide what empowers women?
@George Feeny, society really has gotten so dumb to the point that if u took someone from the 60s or 70s and put them into today’s world they’d be more amazed by how stupid and ridiculous the world has gotten then they would be by all the technological advances we have
Cardi b is giving consent. Better example is Come on Eileen
@hollow114, but this song isn't rapey. It's flirty. She wants to stay because she likes him but is concerned about how others would see it if she did stay.
@RogueKnight, it’s like bill burr said “no doesn’t mean no it means I want to but I’m afraid you’ll judge me so I’ll pretend I’ve never done this b4 and hope u don’t find out that I’ve already performed this act on like 40 other guys”
@bobbylupo, found the angry feminist
Am I the only one here who doesn’t know baby it’s cold outside
Because EQUALITY! and of course OPPRESSION! along with the PATRIARCHY!
Ok it’s like less 5% I would even go as far saying 3% of radio stations would do this. People online are just creating fake reasons to get mad nowadays.
Just a reminder if you see people claiming something dumb like "Baby its cold outside is about rape" there is usually a report option on posts on social media I would suggest we start using on such post as they are spam.
For the record I don't like Baby its cold outside because I hate the way it sounds and is WAY over played but it takes an uneducated twit to say its about rape. Also cardi b's 15 minutes needs to end
@G1ngerB0y, 15 mins is 20 mins longer then she deserves
