I bought two large, leather clad books off eBay, from 1877. The Earth And Her People 1&2. Amazing things are inside, and it's so cool to read it (though some things are difficult to make out due to gothic/fraktur letters). And my room smells really old now. Also my sweatpants are full of book dust. But that's worth it. Sorry, completely unrelated, but they are my new treasure and I felt like sharing.
@A pet named Steve, like literally from 1877? That’s pretty cool and soon Steve the pet will become Steve the librarian. That’s how it starts, old book smell
@A pet named Steve, What's it about and is it in german or in english?
@A pet named Steve, I have read many leather clad books from my library made of mahogany.
@The Flame War, it's in German, and it describes the different peoples all across earth. The first book starts with America, and there are drawings of indians and landscapes. But also Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, they're all there. With beautiful drawings, prints, coloured maps and expandable, multi-page statistics. It's so beautiful and I'm so proud of having these books. I just read the introduction, where the revolution of the earth and the sun is explained. "The earth, with whose Observation this book occupies itself, is a spherical Star in the Space of Worlds, and circles as a planet in company of a friendly Trabant, the our night illuminating moon, in a bit more than 365 days around a light and warmth giving central body, the sun, of which the unmeasurable Wideness of space contains yet uncounted more." Is the first sentence, roughly translated. I'm in love with the language.
@A pet named Steve, The oldest book I have is "Everybody's Family Doctor" which was a household medical book published in 1935, my copy being printed in 1936. It lists all sorts from sprains to Yellow Fever, and was carried by my grandad in WW2 and then by my uncle in the Falkland war. It then came to us about a year before I was born, the spine a bit tattered but the whole thing is still here. A bit worn but it survived.
@JacketOff, seriously though, a library is my dream. One day, when I have money. So, never.
@A pet named Steve, How did you find them?
@Sambob, a book that has lived a story of its own makes it so much more valuable in my opinion. The feeling of holding a book in your hands and imagining what the person who held it before you must have thought.
@The Flame War, late night trip to eBay. I check every once in a while to get stuff like war photos or books.
@A pet named Steve, Really? Interesting. So I'm guessing you have a collection of such things.
@The Flame War, the mere beginning of a collection. I have lots of war photos though. And a original photo of Rommel, the desert fox, himself! Old things are nice. It just makes me sad that people give them away like that sometimes.
@A pet named Steve, I wish I could have some of those things but, unfortunately, money is tight.
@The Flame War, some of this stuff is really cheap. Photos and war letters for 1-2€, the books, despite being so amazing, for 20€. Some books you get for 2-3€
@A pet named Steve, your dream is a library mine is owning a concert hall and hosting metal shows I own so many cds and records
@DrSin, that is an awesome dream! You'd get to meet so many metal people!
@A pet named Steve, I wish !!!! I would book everyone and everything that was metal, gotta give everyone a chance
@A pet named Steve, Really? That's amazing.
@A pet named Steve, wait didn't you leave fp for a while?? When did you get back? Or am I remembering wrong?
@yadonegoofed, that was 18 months ago. She’s gone. Seen plenty of comments like yours. If she’s a friend of yours I’m sure you’ll find her somehow. If you’re just thirsting, well best of luck with your endeavors friend
@The Landshark , wth I'm in the recent section why is this comment so frickin old
@yadonegoofed, I believe someone is going around liking ancient pictures from uncut
@A pet named Steve, #bestcomments
So... what's the conclusion then?
@The Flame War, the conclusion was really groundbreaking. You'll be flattened when you hear it.
@A pet named Steve, Which is *drumroll...
@The Flame War, *Minecraft death noise*
@A pet named Steve, Ever noticed how close the roblox oof is to the beta mincraft hurt sound? I wonder if they could sue.
@A pet named Steve, So there is fall damage, that's disappointing. It thought it was all a conspiracy that if you fell from high enough you would be ok but some CIA agends would come and dematerialize you and neuralize the bystanders.
God speed you magnificent bastard
@megamanx181x, i just upvoted a comment from 1 yr ago ffs
@mycatsanahole, thank you for that
Unrelated, but has anyone played the new Risk of Rain 2? From what I’ve played so far it’s an amazing sequel to the first.
To be continued...
Is this Apex?
