@Fun Facts 101, see, technically it isn't "socialism". The problem is that to get to socialism, you need an interim step where you have someone with absolute power in control; no country has ever left that interim step. So, for the most part, socialism is a completely impossible pipe dream held by people who think "Well if *I* was the benevolent dictator for that interim period, I would be a good person and give up that power for the people." The fact of the matter is that absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Like I hate Maduro as much as the next guy but it's like we all forget what happened to Greece recently and what happened to pre WW2 Germany under different economic and political systems. And how Venezuela was the richest country in South America until the USA and the EU started sanctions. It's almost like the biggest defining factor of this (and other) economic downturns is sanctions and reperations.

@TriangleMan, It wasn't just Maduro, it started with the oil prices going down, a couple years before Chavez died. Many of their problems can be traced to their oil. Their economy relied on it. Also, they can't even get most of their oil. It's thicker than normal oil, meaning that they have to inject thinner oil into their reserves to get it out. Since their economy crashed, they can't afford the thinner oil anymore. So they're sitting on the stuff that could potentially save their economy with no way of accessing it.
I can't wait for the "that's not REAL socialism" comments
