For fvck’s sake people, cultural appropriation is bullshjt. We’ve worked so hard to achieve equality between races. We want races and cultures to blend into only one race- the human race so why now are we worrying about wearing, eating or listening to only things that partake to certain cultures? It’s undoing so much work because it separates is even more and the amount of people that have a double standard when it comes to this is atrocious. Let people wear what they want (within reason, meaning don’t dress like a KKK member or a Nazi for example) but if a black person wants to wear a kimono, let them. If a white person wants dreads, let them have them. There’s no harm. There’s bigger problems to worry about. That is all.
@Midnite St0rm, equality disappears where microaggressions are accepted
@Midnite St0rm, Lindsay Ellis actually has a really fantastic explanation of modern cultural appropriation through the lens of the 1980’s Disney movie Pocahontas vs the 2017 Disney movie Moana. She does a much better job of explaining it than I ever could. Just look up “chez Lindsay Pocahontas mistake” on YouTube and it’ll be fine.
Tl;dr tho: cultural appropriation is only a problem when a traditionally colonized people have aspects of their culture co-opted into the culture of a traditionally colonizing people (I.E it’s ok for an Indian dude to do a British accent but it’s cringe af for a British guy to do an apu voice)
@liberachi , but...... that’s a double standard?
@Midnite St0rm, listen, nowadays the word cultural appropriation has become politically charged, but really it’s a neutral term, it’s not good or bad, without cultural appropriation, we wouldn’t have Bollywood, or Taco Bell! But we have to acknowledge that certain groups of people have been given major advantages due to the last millennia of conquering nations going out and claiming land and people for their own gain, and a small way to level the playing field is by not letting these traditions held dear to so many become diluted by modern consumerism or superficially (like turning traditional folk songs and myths from oceanic culture into A HAPPY SING ALONG WITH DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON: book your Disney hawii vacation now and get a free picture with princess Moana ooOOooh)
@liberachi , You do realize that by showing those cultures in "Mainstream Media" you introduce thousands of people to new ideas and it encurages them to look at and explore said culture? After moana came out the online traffic for pacific island culture sky rocketed. People wanted to learn more. Take your double standard and shove it. I dont see you going out to learn Latin do i? The way your going about it no one had better learn any languages because that would be cultural appropriation. Its bs and does not exist. Humans have been, FOR AS LONG AS HUMANS BEEN ON THIS EARTH, exchanged ideas and cultures. Some die, some thrive. Its life cupcake. Whens the last time you bothered to even look up ancient Mesopotamian culture? What about the Akkadians? The list goes on forever.Human culture is not set in stone. Its an ever changing network, a constant evolving weave of thoughts and ideas. And you want to cut that up and seperate it into tiny little squares and never share it with anyone? Bs
@liberachi , And while your at it get your sjw safe space out of funny pics.
@Midnite St0rm, pffft to these people no such thing as a duble standard when they do it. But if you so much as hint at having a double standard boy howdy watch out. Bollywood is fine but a British guy wants to do a voice? Gtfo. Its such petty bs. Call them out brother. Call them out on their stupid, petty, bs double standards. It wont do anything obvi but damn it we can try.
@liberachi , And you know what while im at it cultural appropriation doesnt exist in the first place anyway. And biologically speaking neither does race. Check mate. From a world view we all share the same intermixed culture. And biologically there is no such thing as race. We are and i quote
Infraorder: Simiiformes (next few i want you to really pay attention to k pumpkin?
SPECIES: HOMO SAPIENS
No races or sub species. Check mate again. Get your racist ideals out ok. Only people who really care about race are racists like sjws and other separatist groups.
@liberachi , And what is your problem with Moana? What? I guess since The Rock is a samoan he doesnt have the right to be in a movie about Samoans? O wait. You probably didnt know The Rock is a Pacific Islander did you? What? Because he doesnt look like it? You sjws really show your true colors. You cant see past skin deep. People like you make me sick. Pretending to fight for equality only to be really fighting for segregation. At least KKK mebers are honest about what they are. You people try to water down and hide your true intentions under the guise of equality. Makes me want to puke.
How could i guess the person who uploaded this would love doctor who...
@Shentei Zei, what does doctor who have to do with Trudeau?
@TheDoctorsTARDIS, it was a joke but i was reffering to the fact that a lot of people who obsess over doctor who are the same kind of people to get offended over anything. Basically tumblr.
@Shentei Zei, lol no... I love doctor who and supernatural, but I'm a normal person who doesn't give a shít about all that snowflake stuff.
Is Mr. Dress up a thing? Or did the maker of the meme not manage to think up of something witty? I'm guinenly interested in knowing if Mr. Dress up is a thing I can start using.
@Mhael, either way Trudeau has more outfits.
@Mhael, Mr.Dress-up was a Canadian kids tv show, similar to Mr. Rogers.
@Mhael, Mr. Dress Up was the GREATEST kids show ever. The Man had a giant steamer trunk full of costumes, and would put them on to tell stories or sing songs. He made Canadian Public Television a gift to those of us who were too poor to afford cable (which, in the early 80s, was about 25 channels, unless you were willing to pay extra for HBO, Cinemax, or Disney).
