USB C is the future
@StrayTheFox, it needs to be fine tuned but yes it is, cant wait
@StrayTheFox, It’s a bit confusing, but I think they’ve only voted to change the charger, not the cable. So iPhone and Android phones will still have different connectors, it’s just the other end of the cable which is being regulated.
@Nellybert , no... the other end of the cable has always been usb. The lightning connector will no longer be used (at least in the uk or something) and they will adopt the usb-c connector that's currently used for almost everything (even mac books!)
@spelcheck , which version of usb-c?
@spelcheck , I’ve just re-read the article I was going by (on The Verge) and there’s a big notice on it giving a correction - when I read it, they said that the law wouldn’t remove the Lightning port, now they’re saying that it will.
So you are right, and I was going off of incorrect information.
And this is why Europe no longer innovates. Also if I remember the story correctly this wouldn’t apply to the current phone tech only new tech. So Apple could continue using the lightning connector as long as they don’t change it since it predates the most reasonable alternative (USB-C).
Yea right, Apple won’t comply since they dictate the technology they want or don’t buy it.
@megamanx181x, or they'll just go wireless like they want to anyway. I think wireless is going to suck until they solve how to pick up your phone and use it while it's charging. Magnetic charging pad?
@mas2de, the big thing would to upscale that in a room itself
@megamanx181x, how's that radiation working out for ya?
@LowGravitasWarning, wireless charging isn’t done with radiation
@Beede, Let the bulb ones think what they will. More technology for us.
A team of scientist figured out how to transfer electricity completely wirelessly without coming in contact with anything so like 50 years from now your phone will charge within 25 feet of a charging station
@spelcheck , the nature of electricity and magnetism means charging at those distances is unlikely. Sorry. But I am excited to see the wireless charging tech improve....
@spelcheck , as I was writing that I just started thinking of a device accepting some E&M radiation as a means of charging. Like, using a WiFi signal to charge a portable wireless charger. Dang, that’s a neat idea. If you end up making that I will accept $200,000 payment after you’ve made your first $10million. You’re welcome.
I guess android has to switch to lightning 🌩
They’ll be sorry when Apple just stops selling their products in Europe.
Android chargers function longer, so we'd better use our tech
@The Wolverine, to stop companies from monopolizing add ons that only work in one device
@DrSin, who would do such a thing ...
@Atomicking74, oh jeez I wonder exactly who ????????
@The Wolverine, to help with the growing concern of electronic waste. Plus, Apple is a company full of twats
