@big freedom, its literally the job of the government to provide to us. That doesnt mean like give us everything but the whole point of having a government is for them to provide things like infrastructure, education, basic healthcare (ooooo more anger coming at this one), rule of law, prisons, foregin policy, and more. The real basics to ensure we keep ticking over, its near impossible for people to govern a nation of so many people if we are all anarchists hence why we have democracy. About the "cronies" oh I don't for a second disbelive thats a major issue, its something that pisses me off all the time but that wasn't what I was talking about, thats a bad goverenment not doing what its supposed to.

@bonja, taxes aren't bad it's a necessity in our society. The part that's messed up is the amount of taxes taken and wasted. Also why does the government, the least efficient entity out there, have so much power to raise our taxes and spend it? We aren't truly represented by our government anymore, that's done by those who can bribe our noble leaders. Imo government and taxes aren't bad but our current government and taxes are broken.
-
@bonja, whoooooaaa, no, it is absolutely not the government’s job to provide for you. The government’s only job is to prevent other people from harming you and allow you to provide for yourself. A government that’s powerful enough to give you everything you need is powerful enough to take away everything you have. We don’t want that.
-
@RepostSniper, it aint there to prop up everything but it sure is there to give a base line for people thats why it exists. Literally so that we don't have to manage the stuff that isnt possible at an individual level. Without it we have anarchy, you know who thrives in anarchy... The strongest person who then evolves into monarchies. Democracy and the government underlayed by them exists to stop a even worse loss of freedom that would happen under anarchy. I find it ironic when people say communism (communism is stupid i dont agree with it just using it for a point) is too vulnerable to being corrupted by indviduals but the alternative proposed 9/10 times is basically being more anarchist which is waaaaay more vulnerable to that sort of stuff.

@big freedom, Again your not giving any level of "provision" to your argument to which I keep saying a base line for a very basic standard of living. Instead your coming out trying to insult me and my knowledge on them because I have a differing opinion to you. Its a fools game to mock those different to you, as differences drives innovation. You question my age? Wow pathetic. Who does that? You assume I'am younger presumably because in your eyes I do not see the same as you and thus lack the life experience to make my own mind up about things. Fantastically patronizing. Not that it matters at all, But I'm in my mid 20' I have a stable 9-5, 5 days a week job. I am a net contributer to my economy. Does that make my views more valid to you? I suspect it doesnt. Your the the example of the issue with the world. If you tried to explain your position I'd listen but instead you go on the attack and thus turn any valid points you had null.

@bonja, I disagree with how much government you are advocating for, but I agree that government is necessary and not inherently evil. I do think it’s a poor turn of phrase to say it’s government’s job to provide for the population: too open ended. I think the purpose of government should be providing a country that allows the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. But that necessitates the freedom to make bad choices (like smoking and drinking and drugs) which is where things start to get sticky with healthcare and social laws. It’s here, the social part of society where caution and deliberation is most important, but it is in the social realm where things of late have started going a bit nuts.

@bonja, I asked because your opinion on what government is and isn’t seems quite juvenile. Your opinion is that the government takes the place of your mommy and provides for you. If asking for clarification is pathetic, I totally get where you get your views on government. The very idea of debate and asking questions... is pathetic? How open minded of you! Your life and your well-being are YOUR responsibility. Period. The government’s responsibility is to make sure that your individual rights are protected. Period.
-
@bonja, lol. I refuted your vague BS with an idea of what government is. You took offense at that, and then call me triggered? Again, you come across as very juvenile. May want to re-examining your tone and ideas if you want to be taken seriously. Or not, idgaf what you want, as long as you don’t interfere with my life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
-
@big freedom, my opinion is juvenile because I don't see the same as you? Ok. "Government takes the place of your mommy" again wow your calling me juvenile. The very idea of debate is pathetic? No i openly accept debate you didnt debate you came in with your views and tried to attack me as a person aka as now trying to make out I'm too immature to understand. "Refuted my vague BS", do you not understand how absolutely paradoxical that is, you refuted a position that wasnt made clear? Ok amazing. Second part already covered all you did was state your view not refute me. Frankly your responce is very telling. Maybe I am younger Maybe I am not but its very clear who is the imature person here.
-
@bonja, no... your opinion is juvenile because it lacks wisdom, understanding, and nuance. There are plenty of people that disagree with me with mature opinions and ways that they express them. If you presented such an argument I would take it as such. Most people that are proposing any version of socialism want a “nanny state” which you seem to be in favor of. Know where that term came from? If you want the government to be your nanny, then yes, I’ll call you juvenile.
-
@that crazy Marine, here's a little scenario for you... I made around $40k gross and paid maybe 11k in taxes. in 2018. No kids, no dependents, nothing. Just straight up standardized tax refund got me $3200 back. This year, I've made 80k gross and paid 21k in taxes. With a wife and a kid as dependents. Standardized tax refund.. I owe 2k.. tell me how that shi+ works..
-
@bonja, *friend *cmon. Don’t call people foolish while making basic mistakes. And the government shouldn’t “provide” you anything. It has no ability to “provide”. It only has the ability to steal from someone who produces and give that to someone who doesn’t produce. Just remember, anything that the government “gives” you, they also have the ability to take away from you.

@Snarfel Burger, Is anyone actually reading what I'm saying? "Your right I was vauge, deliberatly so partly because I knew how easy it was to trigger people" Is that me saying oh thats me setting out to trigger people? As I said I kept it vague because I knew people would get all hissy. I wanted to avoid this sort of thing. Your both just reading what you want to read. Not what I'm actually saying
-
@bonja, What I see when someone calls another person juvenile all because they have a different opinion is an old person who are so set in their ways that they act like Block Buster did when Netflix emerged. Thinking their old way is the only and best way. But lack the ability to analyze and change to possible better ways. Its especially funny when they confuses social programs with socialism.

@theprofprofessor, *hits with rolled up newspaper* No! Bad! The kings and lords of feudal society imposed a death tax. It’s just another way for the government to get more money. Now the fault is on the people for demanding a more bloated government with more and more responsibilities it wasn’t originally meant to have.
-
@Snarfel Burger, There would be a lot more money going back to society with parties that act in public interest, which these people actively throw money against so that they’ll get more money back from corporate parties. Considering how little tax is paid by people earning that much and the corporations they work for, any flawed prevention of that is better than the alternative of what would happen
-
@theprofprofessor, I don’t really understand the comment, maybe because its early. But there is no reason for an inheritance tax. The government doesn’t NEED more of our money. We’re already taxed on everything. How about shrinking the size of government so it doesn’t require as much money to function?
-
@An Everyday Penguin, I'm in the exact same boat as you. 85k a year not married and not taxes. Taxes are to damned high but som are needed. Taxes for public education, fire, police, military, research ect. Fine. But income tax for the road plus gas tax for said road plus property tax for said road then that road also becomes a toll road or it has red light camera, which has been proven to be more dangerous because they will cut the time the light is yellow just to pull in more income. That's outrages. Politicians are bribed to do it. Couple of people are under investigation right now for the camera light thing bribery. Into exactly sure what you're question/ counter argument was or where I was going with this.
If you still have money, then obviously the government isn’t taking enough. How can you be trusted with money? Are you the government? I didn’t think so. Now, give the government all the money.
