Im a dog trainer at petco and seriously fvck petsmart. A few weeks ago i had a woman bring her pitbull in and he was a bundle of love and energy, i got to the floor with him to meet my new friend and the owner just cried. I was obviously weirded out but she said she had just gone to petsmart and they turned down her dog for training and events and that as a breed he wasn't capable of passing the CGC (essentially the well trained dog test) and i told her they're wrong and now little Mila is 3 weeks away from graduating
@I Am Captain Obvious, tell Mila i said shes a very good girl and were all proud of her.
@I Am Captain Obvious, isnt refusing a pibull just enhancing the perceived issue? Like "the media says your dog is unsafe so instead of training it to be safer and breaking the stereotype we are just genna refuse you and let your dog be out of control"
@I Am Captain Obvious, This is so fvcked. I used to volunteer at the humane society and I worked for Pet Supplies Plus for a long time. Pit Bulls are one of the best behaved dog breeds I have ever encountered. They have such a high emotional intelligence and are, in my opinion, the best option for a family friendly dog. To hear that a company who’s entire existence revolves around pet knowledge refused service to a pit bull makes my stomach churn. People who believe the negative myths about pit bulls are like the antivaxxers of the dog world. FVCK. THEM. ALL. Pit bulls used to be called “nanny dogs” because of how good they are with families. Sorry for the rant, but I’m pissed. Thank you for showing Mila love.
@I Am Captain Obvious, GO MILA!
Doesn’t make sense. That’s Mr. Worldwide right there
I would assume that, if true, this was a store-specific thing because, as someone who works at a PetSmart, I can confirm that we see pit bulls all day, every day, and they’re always welcome. ❤️
@Rook, could also be city specific. I’m pretty sure there are some cities that require pit bulls to be registered as an aggressive breed. And then that might prevent them from being allowed in.
@Blargetha, idiotic cities pit bulls are only that aggressive when made that way literally the same way as any other dog but thanks to a few news stories they're transformed into hellhounds in collective consciousness
@eleven, I think it also trying to keep them from getting sued, if something did happen
@Blargetha, It's pretty rare that a pit bull is born mean. Just like how rare it is that a person is born that isn't distinctively male or female.
@Rook, i believe it may be store specific, but it happens at too many stores in my area. Read my other comment, the petsmart near me are the ones that give them a bad name. I've had owners tell me that before they came to me for training, they went to petsmart and they used electric collars on their dogs
@Rook, I don't know, I've gone to petsmart to board my pit before and they told me it was going to be an ungodly amount of money for day and they would let Waffles out twice a day for the bathroom. She wasn't allowed to play with the others bc she's a pit. I would have to pay twice as much for solo play time. Otherwise, she'd be locked up all day.
@Blargetha, I’m gonna guess something like that. My city bans put bulls altogether.
@eleven, there's a dude who walks a pit with her head up to my stomach (she's yuge). She thinks she's a lapdog, and it's amazing
@Rook, it's insurance specific. A lot of insurance companies don't allow pitbulls, rottweilers, German Shepards, etc. onto property as a part of their contract due to them being "aggressive breeds", which is infuriating.
@Rook, if you look on the petsmart website it actually says that all activities like camp or group activities pitbulls arent allowed. So it may be stores aren't enforcing it
@eleven, that’s actually not true, it’s not just a “few news stories”. There’s mountains of data proving that pits are responsible for more injuries and fatalities than any other breed. Now with that said, I don’t accept it’s a breed issue but more of a cultural issue with those that tend to own pits over other dog breeds. What is it about pits that certain segments of the population prefer over other breeds? And why do these individuals turn the animals violent?
That's some grade A bullpit. Look at that face.
Blu is clearly a heckin good girl. 12/10 would Taco bout anything with her.
I work weekends at Pet Supermarket and we happily welcome pit bulls so bring em if you got em! :)
Maybe I'm petty but I guess I'm a Petco loyalist now.
This makes me sad.
Isnt that racism against dogs?
Where does it say no pit bulls allowed?
@butthole bread, they probably didn’t say it on the poster. I used to work at a petsmart myself. I left after a few months.
