I play it on PC so...
I never played the original but people really love it, what made it so good?
@Iamrealsupersand, fun story with fun lore and a great twist (if you have no back story on it going in)
Definitely worth the 5-10 bucks of your country's currency for it. It is basically a Star Wars DnD game though. So hidden dice rolls, skill checks, Turn basedish fighting (?)
@Iamrealsupersand, great story, great gameplay, Great graphics (of the time).
@Iamrealsupersand, Agree with others assessments. The story stands out even today. Wanted to add that the game has good replayability because of the light side/dark side morality system and dialog options change the story slightly. It was one of the first games that allowed you to choose your character's development as a Jedi and I'd argue that it's still unique in this. It's one of my favorite games.
I'll cover a few cons too to be fair. By today's standards it plays linear despite you being able to choose which order you'd like to visit the planets. The initial pacing is slow - seems like you are on the first planet for 1/3 of the game.
@Iamrealsupersand, reasons above sum it up it’s available on mobile and works pretty good for the port id recommend it as I’m not sure how far they intend to take the “remake” part of it. Don’t want them to touch the story too much but I’ve been disappointed before
@The Cossack, my understanding is that they might touch up the story a little/rewrite lines and rerecord stuff, but most of the remake is in regards to the gameplay because:
1. Aspyre/Bioware no longer has the license to AD&D/D&D 2e for the core rules that built the OG's gameplay
2. The gameplay does feel a bit more clunky if you don't understand D&D combat in the form of "real time with pause" so they're going for a more action rpg style from some of Aspyre's recent hiring notices.
All in all, despite *some* fan's hyperbolic concerns because one of the writers is apparently a hardcore "feminist"/misandrist, I know they brought back a lot of the OG talent and have a history of good remakes and ports as a company so I'm excited haha
@Sven and Otar, I’m excited too but the cynic in me is keeping me is keeping me cautious with one of the games I loved. I’m hoping the combat is improved on as it was usable but a weaker part of the game though I’m not sure what style would really compliment it….speculations say next year so we’ll see
@Iamrealsupersand, Good characters, excellent twist. Juhani is one of my favorite all-time Star Wars characters.
@The Cossack, tbh, if they pulled off Jedi Fallen Order souls-like combat but changed some of the character-building mechanics, I think that'd be a solid move that'd fit the vibe. As you purchase new abilities, get better stats, etc. you'd have access to new combos and do more damage.
Perhaps with blasters you'd get the ability to mod your blasters to have new abilities/firing modes, while also getting the chance to unlock moves like a "quickdraw" to let you start throwing fire downrange better with pistols, etc.
@Sven and Otar, the dnd/rpg style combat is why I enjoy the game. If you turn it into a slasher it would lose a lot of its appeal for me. I prefer being able to turn based combat, but maybe that's just me.
@Mag3rPayne, don't get me wrong. I love turn based combat, but I also lowkey hate real time with pause with an intense passion. I tolerated it in that game (I refuse to get through OG Baldur's gate because of this). I just spammed the pause button all the time and would rather it just be turn based or fully live, so for me, I kinda hope they move away from that.
But to each their own though! If the story is still amazing, even if they stuck with real time w/pause, I would still play it. I just would hate the combat
@Drunk Pantless Uncle, there’s a rumor that they’re rewriting it…
I thought it was only exclusive to ps on release, and is later coming to Xbox
@Boobzilla, yeah, I know it’s being released on PC, so not really a PS exclusive
I guess you can say...they went to the darkside
It's a remake, so at this point Sony can keep it. I'll stick to the legendary original, rather then the bastardized version that will fvck up the established story. Which is probably one of the best Star Wars Stories outside the original trilogy. When you make a proper sequel that takes into account the original story, then we'll talk.
dont get it you'll regret it the writer for the remake is a total feminist that hates KOTOR
@HellHog, She said Rey is the best SW character I believe.
