That's what I thought hey yo
I honestly hated that character (just tell Po the plan damnit).
But that scene was badass.
@Blaiseingfire, Agreed. It was badass and entirely an unnecessary outcome.
It should have been Admiral Ackbar. It would have been a nice end for a character that has been around since the beginning. Instead of the pathetic death he got.
@Blaiseingfire, there was literally no reason to withhold the information (a terrible quality of a leader btw).
@Lord Palpatine, well the reason why he got an off screen death was because the voice actor Erik Bauersfeld passed away in 2016, and they felt it would be sacrilegious to have continued the character without Erik. Yes, it sucks that Ackbar got a crappy little off screen death, but it was out of respect for the original voice actor
@TheWafflingDead, If that's the route they go then I'm afraid of the crappy off screen death for Leia.
If they pull a Henry Jones Sr. Where he died in between movies I'll slap someone.
@Lord Palpatine, I just think it would have been better if she had made even one good decision before her "sacrifice." But the writing was VERY hit or miss for TLJ.
@Lord Palpatine, yeah, honestly I'm really worried about that happening too. But is that any worse than say a cgi leia thats close but not quite there, like Grand Moff Tarkin from Rouge One? I just feel like no matter what they do its not going to do the character justice
@Blaiseingfire, I don't know... it's nice when leaders keep the troops informed but it is not their job to warn everyone of every trick play they've got up their sleeve. If they tell him they have to waste their time telling and defending every decision they make. That's not how a military works. I agree her death was unnecessary, is that SPACE SHIP honestly unable to follow a preprogrammed path, but that doesn't mean she has to share her plans with every pilot.
@DandyZombie35, watching TLJ is always a very polarizing experience for me, because there are parts that I absolutely fvcking loved, and parts that i just ABSOLUTELY HATED. It was almost as if they got so wrapped up in making the Rey/Luke/Kylo story amazing, they just kind of forgot about the rest of the movie, and just threw it together last minute
@TheWafflingDead, I can agree with that, because the Kylo/Rey stuff was fantastic, but the rest of it felt very slapped together. Sloppy writing.
@Lord Palpatine, They got permission from Carrie’s family to cgi her in the movie. I personally hope she has an off screen death, but they’ll have a funeral to start off the movie and motivate the resistance and rey and bring more emotion into the movie straight off the bat
@Lord Palpatine, Spoilers
Should have been Leia. All of Holdo's parts could've been given to Leia and the movie would have been immensely better.
@Blaiseingfire, Agreed but why didn't she do that earlier when the transport ships were getting shot at?
@Lord Palpatine, to be fair, Ackbar isn’t really much of a character. Yeah he was in the clone wars show for a bit, but in RotJ he said about 5 things, all of them generic orders that could have been said by anyone, and the “it’s a trap” meme. Really, all of his fame can be attributed to the meme.
@Lord Palpatine, hold the phone. Admiral Ackbar is dead? Oh crap. I don't even wanna watch it now. Still haven't seen Force Awakens.
@Blaiseingfire, watched the movie in theaters today, and exactly when this scene happened and it was super quiet and suspenseful the mid-30’s guy sitting directly next to me was like “oh yeah boom” and it ruined the entire experience of the scene. Never in my life have I wanted to punch anyone so badly
@Lord Palpatine, I’m with you. Despite the whining about the stuff in this movie, I did enjoy most of it, but this is one of the things that irritated me.
@Blaiseingfire, What I can’t work out is: if Po didn’t know the plan, he couldn’t have told Fin and Rose the plan - so how did the coder/criminal bloke find out the plan to betray them by giving the First Order a plan none of them knew about?
@Nellybert , obviously the hacker was from the future. Why else would he hang out in a cell waiting for finn and rose just to unlock the door and walk out no problems
@Blaiseingfire, military chain of command is not that flexible, unfortunately. Why do you think Po got shot by Leia when she regained consciousness? Po, from an objective point of view, was being an insufferable upstart. If he were to keep behaving this way, in the future he would needlessly put many people in danger.
@Blaiseingfire, The Biggest reason I can see of why she didn't tell Poe is because she would be afraid of him taking her place and the Resistance loosing their best pilot. Because we all know that's something He would do to save someone. (Also) Hey! Reaaallly long time lurker first time comment!
@TheWafflingDead, didnt have the same respect with leia
@Oujosh29, why would he hang out? He was drunk and they offered him a free bed to sleep it off. Awfully kind of them.
@Oujosh29, Ah, of course. If Leia can suddenly become magically immune to missiles & explosive decompression, why not time travel too!?!
@Lord Palpatine, his death should have involved an elaborate trap set for the First Order.
@Empshok, Last word's
"It's a traarrrgggg"
@Blaiseingfire, Right??? That scene was... incredible. Terrific
@Lord Palpatine, plus why didnt she do that earlier before over half of the rebellion was killed? I loved the movie but there were SO many fixable flaws.
@Lord Palpatine, have you seen star wars theory's tribute to the admiral
@Blaiseingfire, *huge rant incoming look out for spoilers*
P.O. was A HUGE P**CK ABOUT HER NOT TELLING HIM THO THO.
Like yeah he wanted to know the plan, but first of all, you aren’t in charge, shut your f**king mouth,
second, Before all that went down, “stay in your lane” was literally the last thing Leia said to him before “dying” and he immediately disregards it by throwing a F**KING MUTINY 20 MINITES LATER because “I wanna be in charge” screw you poe.
and Third AND MOST IMPORTANT, HIS PLAN F**KING FAILED, while hers ended up DESTROYING THE FLAGSHIP AND SAVING THE REBELS
@liberachi , Yeah. She was meh, and Po was stupid rebellious. Like he did cause a bunch of unneeded casualties. But she was still forgettable. Leia, or Ackbar would have been better picks for her role. TBH both character's weren't in the right. They were both kind of dicks.
@liberachi , Little theory what if Po is going to become a rebel extremist. And his actions in LJ was leading to him going to become a rebel extremist "villain"
@Lord Palpatine, THIS.... this is the best idea to come out of this whole debate. Hell yes. This needs to happen.
@Lord Palpatine, That would be cool, except that the end implies that he's taken Leia's and Holdo's words to heart...unless they want to negate his character development...which they did with Finn anyway so...
@liberachi , I agree for the most part, but it should be noted that the mutiny would not have succeeded if the majority of the crew hadn't sided with Poe. Holdo withholding information by pulling rank instead of assessing the situation and communicating with her lower personnel - the ones likely to actually fly the damn ships, y'know? - is bad leadership on her part, and her reasoning being "hold on to hope" means little when the resistance is dying and something concrete is needed to keep everyone afloat. I'm not saying Poe was right, because he wasn't, he was an a$$ and needed to get taken down a notch, but at least it fits with his character motivation. Holdo shows up a half hour into the movie, so we have no idea her authority, or her motivation, and we're left with a bland plot device whose sole purpose is to allow multiple fvck ups to happen die to miscommunication.
Way to give the best death scene to the worst character. I felt literally nothing in this scene. What a waste.
@SimonPetrikov, Yeah all the cool character's that died had meh deaths.
@SimonPetrikov, shame, I respected her. I thought po was being a whiney little such and such. She wasn't great but at the end you saw she was clever. She is a general who had the respect of lea which suggests that she's got a story worth hearing and is probably pretty bad ass. I agree that I didn't love her character but by the end I felt properly rebuked for having underestimated her.
@Canis Arktos, She didn't really have any character though. I was hoping the big nosed lady would take Leia's place, at least she had screen time to show that she's a collected, no-nonsense official who could get the job done. Holdo just randomly appears with no foreshadowing and acts like a replacement, more spiritual Mon Mothma despite doing cliche obstructive stuff like pulling rank to withhold information. She's a plot device, not a character, which would be fine if she weren't essential to the plot, and given the best damn death scene in the movie.
The stupid part about this plan was why didn't they just use the smaller medical ships as the light-speed projectile? Im sure it would have worked.
But here's another problem. At the end of rogue one, when the rebels got the plans, and were just turning around to leave, a few ships started jumping to light speed, only to be blocked by darth vaders ships. THE WAS NO GREAT EXPLOSION! Two ships running into eachother at light speed caused a small crash and thats it! Why did it suddenly work in TLJ?
@biolojist, Good point. But maybe since Vader's ship was coming out of hyperspace at the exact same time, some of the momentum cancelled out? Or maybe by the time of TLJ (like, forty years later I think), hyperspace travel had increased in speed? Those are just theories.
Also, Holdo's ship was much closer in size to that dreadnought than those little blockade runners were to the Star Destroyer, right? Or am I making that up?
@Neil Dylandy, arguing continuity in the Star Wars universe is particularly pointless. You can pick at it constantly because it’s so pointless. I had to get over it back with the prequels because it’d have driven me over the edge. Now I just enjoy the movies for what they are. There’s sound in space for crying out loud, just understand that all decisions shoot for somebody’s (not necessarily your) sense of cool factor, that and marketability.
@biolojist, there have been too many times when they just ignored physics. In "force awakens" the people on all these different planets watch a star get consumed (not their star) and they watch over an hour or so.... in real time.... projectiles reaching across star systems.... and blowing up multiple planets. THATS NOT HOW PHYSICS WORKS!!! There's all this light speed, information and seeingsomethinghappeningthatisreally far away stuff. This has caused me to submit to those people that call star wars a fantasy wizard space opera. I'm still absolutely going to watch the next movie but.... fantasy wizard space opera. Don't think too hard on it. It'll only make you angry.
Hey guys currently going into shock on the way to the hospital after slicing my knee with a chainsaw, hope everyone is having a great day
@Slightly Used Spork, sh1t dude hope you’re okay! How’s the knee now? (Noticed it’s been a day since you posted!!)
@2807Ollie, I ended up having to get 12 stitches but otherwise I'm fine. They said it's gonna take 2 weeks to heal completely. On the plus side I can say I've been chainsawed for an awesome story.
@Slightly Used Spork, does sound like a good story! Wish you a quick recovery! At least you have funny pics to keep you company!
She has a long neck.
@CynicalSir, Yup. As soon as I saw her, fooking SJW hair.
Dam I am so glad I saw that movie yesterday. That's like the 3rd spoiler today...
This would actually change warfare if they just sent their ships to collide with others and planets
Perhaps the hacker weakened that part of the shield allowing for the impact? Which is why she didn’t aim for center mass?
I think Finn should of died. Along with that snot nose fat Asian chick.
