Ah yes, Jif Jang, my favorite content creators.
@TheColossalTitan, I wonder if they drink gin.
@TheColossalTitan, it could be jiff.. with two f's instead of one
@Tis but a scratch, IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!
*braces oneself for downvote to oblivion*
Really though. I don't care what the creator says. Pronounce it gif not jif
@18bluecat, sorry, you’re wrong
Edit- about 1/3 is w/me? We’re making progress
@Captain Anderson, it ain't a peanut butter, so it ain't jif
@18bluecat, do you also pronounce "jpeg" as "jfeg"? The p stands for photograph, after all. So if you are going to be so resolute about "gif", be consistent and start saying "jfeg"
@Scottles, no. Youre not getting it
@Scottles, I'm just gonna point put that 18bluecat made a statement without an argument. They didn't point out why it's pronounced "gif." They might have other reasons, you just created a strawman.
@18bluecat, it’s pronounced jef
@18bluecat, similarly, it doesnt matter what you say because the person who created it gave it a name and a specific way for it to be pronounced. That would be like a parent naming their child Samuel and then everyone calling him Jacob instead. The creator went out of his way to show the world the correct way to pronounce the name of HIS creation. Ignoring or dismissing that because you formed an opinion and are stuck in your way is just ridiculous.
Now, I don't give a shjt how you specifically want to pronounce it. You can say gif, jif, or pronounce it with a fancy french accent; I really don't care. That said, the "correct" way of pronouncing it is "jif"
@BIessthefaII, then he should have spelt it jif. If a parent says their kids name is Samuel but spells it Jacob. Then most people will probably call him Jacob
edit: I know gif is an acronym but that's irrelevant
@18bluecat, there is no "should have." By your logic, photograph should be spelt "fotograph," psychic should be spelt "sycic," etc.
@ihatecums, My name Jeff?
@18bluecat, "I recognise the council has made a decision, but given that it's a stupid-ass decision, I've elected to ignore it."
@BIessthefaII, ph and psy are established spellings. As are j and g
@18bluecat, explain to me giraffe vs gorilla then. You can have soft Gs or hard Gs, so the creator of the product is well within his right to determine which one should be used.
@18bluecat, create your own file type, and then you can decide how it’s pronounced. Respectfully, “jif” gang.
@Captain Anderson, hold strong bröther
@BIessthefaII, sure, but he didn't create the language behind the words that those initials represent. Graphics is not pronounced jraphics.
@CynicalSirr, but it isnt graphics, it's an acronym GIF. Scuba is an acronym where the u stands for underwater. In Scuba it is an "oo" sound, but underwater has an "uh" sound. Same scenario
@BIessthefaII, you're right then. It should use the "uh" sound. Also, GIF comes from "graphics interchange format".
I have a friend who calls em jifs, he's my least favourite friend and I try to see him the least....
YES GANG MEMES HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED
I know you guys don't like these memes but I'm kinda fond of them. Like "imagine not being seen by scantron machines" posted by #2 gang for a number 3 pencil. It's just stupid worthless comparisons. I feel like it's to make fun of the type of people who fight over apple and PC
Gif gang represent!
So how do you pronounce gift? Gift or Gift?
@chickee fella, okay, then what about giraffe? Or George, or Gin, even the letter G itself is pronounced with a J sound.
@Shodai Hokage, not all of the G’s. Gay, garage, garbage, and so on. Not saying you are wrong, but you can see the dilemma with a new word. Gift just happened to be the closest word I could think of to Gif.
@chickee fella, I do see the dilemma, but you can't vote to turn something into a fact.
@Shodai Hokage, that was not my intention. My intention was to show how close some words are, pronounced differently but are spelled differently. Classic example is dessert and desert or being and been.
So gif stands for Graphical Interchange Format.. with this in mind if we go by the jif standard then the word Graphical would be pronounced Jraphical... so it has to be G sound rather then J sound.
I pronounce it 'jyfe'. Change my mind.
There is actually the third Gif. Look it up, It’s the most correct.
