Better than neglecting or abandoning after he gets attached
@HSA, that’s what I was thinking, I mean some dogs are extremely active or have been mistreated in the past.
Both those two types require their owners to devote quite a bit of extra time to make sure they stay well adjusted and happy.
If someone recognizes that they aren’t able to provide what the dog needs please give it to a shelter that you know can.
Trust me there are much worse things that you can do to a pet that bring them to a good shelter. Granted the fact the person spent a single day with the dog before returning it makes me wonder if it was ever actually adopted.
Some shelters do a thing where you take the pet home for a trial basis to see how they mesh with the new potential family. It could well be that this family had other pets already and they didn’t get along with this new dog, it happened to my family growing up. The new dog would constantly pick fights with the older dog.
@George Feeny, just curious how many people here have taken in an abused dog yourself? living in rural TN, it's not uncommon to have dogs dropped off on our road. It's not easy to rehabilitate abused dogs. .. actually almost impossible especially if they were abused their whole life. The two dogs we have now were abandoned here - they're good dogs. Some dogs cannot be rehabilitated and it lies in the original owner, not those who try to give the dog a 2nd chance. Posts like this annoy the hell out of me because people pass judgement without having a clue. But what else is new i guess.
@Dangerous Dan Spivey, my grandparents took in a ton (the toughest where the grey hounds they took in to be honest).
@Dangerous Dan Spivey, but yea I agree people don’t really think about how tough it can be to actually take in an abused animal.
I highly recommend it for those who can as they can be some of the absolutely most loving pets once you give them even an ounce of love.
That said it isn’t like taking in a puppy who can easily be taught not to chew things up.
The dog was robbed of greatness!
Come on. The 420th day should be holy. We need a weekly award for "Worst Human Being" and this dude needs it
@Dr Grimmwell, I don’t usually say this, but can we lynch him
I live in Ontario and got a rescue from Texas a month ago that looks just like that one! I guess the kill rate is pretty high there. Petfinder.com I highly recommend for anybody looking.
