@RAM Card, No it's not. It was a quote taken out of context. Women are already expected to work hard to prevent themselves from becoming the victims of sexual assault,” an article in ThinkProgress argues. “Now, remembering to put on anti-rape nail polish and discretely slip a finger into each drink might be added to that ever-growing checklist — something that actually reinforces a pervasive rape culture in our society.” The whole quote is "I think that anything that can help reduce sexual violence from happening is, in some ways, a really good thing,” Tracey Vitchers, the board chair for Students Active For Ending Rape (SAFER), told ThinkProgress. “But I think we need to think critically about why we keep placing the responsibility for preventing sexual assault on young women. Women are already expected to work hard to prevent them..." They approve but think even more should be done. There was no feminist outrage.

@Hoopscallion, and even if a few here upset, because someone is upset about literally everything, they were few and far between and most had at least some semblance of a point. I saw one that said its weird that people are now gonna make money off of rape prevention. This was seen as a positive thing by 99% of feminists. Your logic is terrible
-
@Hoopscallion, Whoever wrote that article is an ignoramus. Of course you should do whatever you can to not get raped, just like I do everything I can to not get assaulted or murdered. These people live in some fantasy world where they actually think that everyone on the planet will follow their morals. Rapists know that what they're doing is wrong and illegal, they simply don't give a shjt. Just like murderers and burglars. These types of people are not gonna go away simply by telling them that they're assholes. There's nothing we can do to make them go away, they've always been around and they always will be around. The best we can do is take preventative measures. That is the reality and he people who write articles like that simply cannot accept reality.

@CriTiKa1, this whole thing is moot. This product does not exist. Look at the date, August 2014. Snopes has an article about this. They were developing the nail polish at that point. They still are they say. They have no prototypes to show still and other chemists have said it isn't even possible. It is possible to create a nail polish that can detect one or possibly two rape drugs. You cannot make one to test for them all. So what the nail polish would do is let you know it doesn't have two of the 100 possible things listed on Wikipedia as a date rape drug they could have put in there. Tldr; This is a product that was announced two years ago as a concept and has never had a prototype that works and chemists say one never will.

@CriTiKa1, Most rapists don't think what they're doing is wrong. They usually have this crazy ideal in their minds that all men rape people (in the case of a male rapist) because it's become so normal in our culture to blame the female for being to provacative, drunk, etc. What they're saying is, trying to prevent getting raped is like trying not to die in a mass shooting, it's just as important to stop the people doing it as it is help people who may be victimized
-
@Ryzzmac, you have heard the term vocal minority yes? Irrespectively campaigning against rape culture is important, it's like with medicine; what is better treating a symptom or curing the actual disease? Also before people say that it is unrealistic, it was only just under 200 years ago when it was legal to own a human being and just over 100 years ago from when women were unable to vote.

@LeafOnTheW1nd, rape culture doesnt exist, we dont view rape as normal, its often the most despised crime wherever it pops up. Convicted rapists are more likely to get raped themselves in prison, and even people on trial for rape are often demonized and excluded, even before being convicted and sometimes even after being found innocent. Theres also multiple statistics showing rape to be at an all time low, despite an increase in victims willingness to report it. I understand the metaphor, treat the disease and all that, but if I may extend the metaphor, you are decinding we should chop off the entire arm for a mild nonpoisonous bite.
-
@Ryzzmac, It does exist in male prisons in the US. Everyone knows of the whole prison rape thing, but no one seems to care or do anything about. It's viewed as normal. That's rape culture. But in the country as a whole, you're right, rape culture doesn't exist. This sounds like I'm being sarcastic or something, but I'm not. I agree with you completely, I just wanted to point out that it is a thing when it comes to male prisons.

Too bad it's only a concept and not an actual thing. I think this is amazing and should totally be in every store, on every college and high school campus, and should make these guys rich! However, they haven't actually figured out how to make it. It's just an idea and these dudes haven't updated their Facebook page since last year :/
You know, feminists were outraged by these fellows because they were actually doing something instead of getting behind them and yelling "tell men not to rape". Not making this up, people.
