The French helped us win the revolutionary war...just saying
@TheKnightsWhoSayNi, because it was a good excuse to fight England.
@TheKnightsWhoSayNi, nah they just didn’t understand English and kept trying to say surrender but had mixed up “charge” with “surrender” and were yelling “we charge!” While waving a white flag, that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it!
@TheKnightsWhoSayNi, yeah but then they lost a war with themselves
French were always surrender monkeys. Thier tanks had one forward gear and four for reverse
@TheMightyImp, I know it's just a joke, but France's military history is filled with hundreds or more wins than surrenders and defeats.
@I Am Captain Obvious, UK and France have a live hate relationship, like USA and Canada. It's all just a bit of fun
@TheMightyImp, well, US and Canada is all in fun. UK and France have seen a lot of soldiers die, for hundreds of years.
@I Am Captain Obvious, and we wouldn’t be a country if it wasn’t for France they save or asses in the revolutionary war and I’m pretty sure they backed up in the war of 1812 as well
I'm gonna have to challenge that whole 2 biggest wars claim because I can point to a couple of conflicts, namely one that lasted for 116 years as being bigger
@Goldeneye, They were also on the same side in some 30 year conflict that I’m sure meant nothing
@Goldeneye, this persons knowledge extends to only the 2 world wars and that’s it
@Goldeneye, very different depends on your definition of “biggest” war both World Wars had more countries fighting as Ferdinand was the straw that broke Europe’s collective back and WW2 happened because of WW1s absurd price for Germany, higher stakes as this wasn’t just a squabble over France, and I can’t find anything of death tolls for the Hundred Years War not surprising but I can guarantee you it wasn’t has high 40 mill for 1, 85 million for 2 or roughly 125 million collectively this includes both solider, civilian, and Holocaust victim just to be specific so um yeah I would say that World Wars one and two were the bigger wars the only thing the Hundred Years war has on either of them is length there’s a reason World War 1 was called The Great War
@eleven, this is basically what I was going to say. Just because something has lasted longer doesn’t mean it has higher stakes.
@Mkb617, I mean, if France had lost the hundred years war, they would be speaking English right now. As for what @eleven said, I never said the world wars weren't bigger in terms of casualties or people involved, though it could be argued that in the theaters where France and Britan we're both involved the scope was much smaller as many of those casualties came from the Japanese invasion of China and the Eastern front of the European war. I don't know, I just don't think the showerthought in the original post is very interesting because when discussing the rivalry of those 2 nation's it is remarkably small in scope looking at only the last hundred years of their history as opposed to the over 1000 years history of conflict between the 2 nations
@Goldeneye, I don’t completely disagree with you but it is doubtful that the shower thought was meant to be a lesson in history and I bet If you went out in the street and asked people who was in the 100 years war that very few of those who had even ever heard of it would be able to tell you. It could be argued, possibly equally, which conflicts were bigger, but I don’t think it could really be argued which wars were the biggest that most people had heard of. Also even if the stakes were higher, like I said in the last post, that doesn’t necessarily make it bigger either, although I don’t think they were. The conflicts between England and France, although occasionally a few others joined in, were basically between two countries, and yes had the French lost they’d be speaking English, but had the Germans won either war we would all likely be speaking German, or wearing Swastikas, or both
Great in theory but not in practice?
Steven hawking would b more useful then the french
The French sided with Sadam during the gulf war.
@big freedom, No one is surprised
Hawking could give you some great physics tips on how to knock a mf’er out!
@Douche Amore, not anymore
You’d figure that the French surrender so quickly they would actually pay what the owe in nato.
Going to war without the French is like going hunting without an accordion.
No one picks on the french but us Brits! Its tradition!
Same except with russia.
France still has the greatest general to have ever lived
