So, the acidic forms of cannabinoids are extremely low in concentration in most end products, like gummies or vape pens. Smoking weed converts the acid forms to their neutrals. Heating cannabis reduces the compounds studied in this paper so please do not think that smoking weed increases your immunity.
@Assetone, so it may reduce your chance but not immune? Also what about dabs vs herb?
@troubled panda, how do you not understand - oral consumption = yes.. Inhale = no.
@Assetone, Wow thats fascinating!! Thank you I love the expanded understanding.
@troubled panda, to put it simply, if at any point the bud, oil, extract or anything containing acidic cannabinoids are heated you no longer have an acid form. In no way is something you purchase off the shelf or street going to protect you from Covid. However, hemp often contains high levels of acid forms of CBG and CBD. These are legal if coming from hemp. Check the certificate of analysis. You could technically purchase hemp with high acid content and extract with ethanol at home, but again any heat will convert it to the neutral form which is not "pretective" against Covid.
@Kino, not quite. Pretty much all edibles, tinctures, or consumables have been processed using heat through either distillation or the production process. So even if you are eating it, it likely does not contain the acid forms. If you are purchasing any cannabis products from a dispensary ask for a certificate of analysis. These are required and they cover the cannabinoid content as well as screen for harmful contaminants like metals, pesticides, solvents, and microbes. If the Certificate says it contains the common compounds CBG CBD and THC check for the acid forms CBGA, CBDA, and THCA. If they are present all you have to do is extract them without heating and you are good to go. Most of them time they will be less than 5 % (w/w) if included in final consumable products. Hope this isn't too much info.
@Assetone, not at all! I have a suite of edibles since I had to move off of smoking for surgeries. Tincture, oral solution, compound tablets, etc. I'm lucky to have access to a quality vendor..
@Kino, buzz responsibly! I ran a cannabis testing lab. There is some weird/toxic stuff out there so be careful.
@Assetone, appreciate you looking out for our community!
I'm a chronic pain patient with fibro, ptsd, night terrors, and lumbar facet arthritis. Have to be on a wild but legal cocktail to function..
@Kino, You gotta do what helps!
@Assetone, digesting them? Or would oven heat be too much? Edible gummies? Idk. Actually curious
@Blackfrost273 oven heat is too much. So baking them into something is out. It really depends on how the extracted oil for the gummies was made. If it was mass produced, it was likely extracted or distilled with the addition of heat. As for digestion, the acid forms are not psychoactive only the neutrals are. Additionally, the acid in your stomach is not the same as the acid that was originally present. When acidic cannabinoids are heated they undergo a process called decarboxylation. That is the removal of the carboxylic acid group. This happens quickly at high heat and slowly at low heat. If you digest the acid form of THC it won't really have an impact as it is not a psychedelic. That is why dispensary rarely sell anything containing high acidic forms. They are not really active if you are in it for the high.
@Assetone, thc crystals are almost pure thca. But correct, heat will change that. To get high off edibles you need to decarboxylate. But you can make FECO and not fully decarb or mix in uncooked product after the fact. You have some good knowledge though! Most people don't have any idea. Thumbs up!
@Tylerdurdin, thanks! I've never heard of an alcohol extraction refered to as FECO but I did mention that above. I've rarely see crystalline THCA or mentioned it. It is time consuming to make. I do like the crystals though. They look like sugar but hit different lol.
@Assetone, yeah people usually call it rso (for Rick Simpson's oil) but that's kind of a brand name and FECO (full extract cannabis oil? Is what it actually is. You get all the goodies like thc, cbd, terps, etc. If you don't decarb the smoke first then it'll be full of thca. Flower is mostly thca but like you said, there's no high until it reaches over a certain temp. The thca in flower might break down to thc if it's been sitting around for awhile or not stored properly.
Yo yo can I get some of that omichronic
Please do not give the cannabis industry new strain names. They are already bad. I did actually laugh at this one. It beats Scroopy Noopers.
Most smokers I know/knew actually died or struggled the most with the virus. But ok.
@Child Slapper, this is specifically referring to CBG and CBD components of cannabis though, which most commercial cannabis strains have very little if any of. You can get them in edible form though. And some strains naturally have some as well. But most stoners aren't smoking those strains
“Weed helps fight Covid” “So there shouldn’t be any lockdowns in Amsterdam, right?”
@Sexy Homunculus, logic? You must be anti-vax!! And anti-science!!! Probably a flat earther!!!
@Sexy Homunculus, ok so, my wife kids and I all have covid right now, we're doing fine. My dad lives with us and he smokes weed, lots of weed. He has not socially distanced himself and has not gotten covid. Ge is vax'd and boosted. I can't leave that part out. Or as he puts it, waxd, vax'd, ready to relax.
So South Park was right?
Doesn't work for omicron
Snoop Dogg: “That’s my cue.”
Favorite part "As a compliment to the vaccine" HAHA!
I can guarantee people will jump on using weed to try to help, but I doubt this will get squashed like the other actually effective treatments by the media, and government.
Gotta say I have my doubts that smoking anything will help against a disease that kills by suffocating its victims.
