I have a husky-malamute I call fluffer-butt. I've kinda been tempted to shave her. I get the feeling she's tiny under there.
@Ariel7z, NEVER SHAVE A HUSKY. In fact, never shave any dog!
@Ariel7z, there's a reason they have that fur. If you want to shave your dog, don't own the breed. The only reason to ever shave a husky is for medical reason. This is so infuriating!
@Pizzazz, I said it was just a thought.
If you were really trying to convince me, instead of shouting, you could show me some credentials then explain the reasoning calmly.
Or, if you graduated from the University of Google, you could tell me to research it for myself before making any decisions.
@Ariel7z, I own huskies and have family members in veterinarian fields, from vet techs to specializing in surgeries for large farm animals. It gets quite frustrating to have to explain this to people DAILY. Yes, it's a daily thing. I wasn't shouting, I was pushing a well-deserved point. Not only is shaving unnecessary, it harms them in the long run. Fur is not only for warmth, but also helps catch and keep cool air. Shaving also exposes the skin to the sub and the environment which can cause damage and large medical bills in the future, because the fur is there to protect the skin as well as what I mentioned above. Dogs and wolves have delicate skin that hangs loose. Shaving any dog should be considered abusive.
@Pizzazz, *sun not sub. And while I'll apologize for seeming to come off as rude, that was not the intent, but realize having to have this conversation daily gets frustrating. Another frustrating conversation is people getting the husky breed without realizing how high maintenance the breed is, then taking it out on the dogs and abandoning them. They're not labs, they're not content with doing what you please and sitting in a back yard all day. I've seen huskies go crazy from being kept in crates most of their life because people wanted that cute fluffy dog in the meme and didn't know what they were getting into.
@Pizzazz, sure, you sound completely reasonable. (Not.)
Like I said, it was just a thought. You don't have to get all worked up and upset.
Your first message could have been "please don't shave your husky/malamute. It can be harmful in the long run. Google it for yourself. Thanks."
@Pizzazz, you have no idea if I take great care of my malamute, or if she's ever been in a cage in her life.
You catch more flies with honey, as they say.
@Ariel7z, where did I ever say YOU did that? I think you're the one taking more emotion out of this conversation than I am. I stated facts, you're just looking to find anything to make it sound like I'm accusing you of things. Who's the one that's unstable and unreasonable again?
@Ariel7z, did I hit a nerve or what?
@Ariel7z, and I even apologized for coming off strong. But I'm the unreasonable one. Wow! 😂
@Pizzazz, you really look like you're freaking out now.
I'm over it, so.
Let's move on. I'll be good to my fluffy-butt. You try not to yell at people on the internet.
@Ariel7z, yeah. And yet you're the one putting emotions into words written on a screen. Please, let's move on. I can't handle anymore stupidity for today. You go pet your dog and control your emotions. If you took that as yelling, that says more about your issues than anything else. But that's none of my business, cupcake. 😘☕️
@Ariel7z, your flounce was a 3/10, btw.
@Pizzazz, people shouldn't get haircuts, or shave their beards and legs. We have hair for a reason. Sorry, but when you live in a desert, and it's 101° outside, my fluffy animal is getting a trim to keep them cool.
@Batnan, equating animal fur to human hair is silly ad hominem. Also, if it's 101° and your dog is outside in that, id also call that abuse. My huskies go out for their daily hikes either early morning or late night during hot weather and are in air conditioning during such days.
@Batnan, I also never said I was against trims. Full shaves and trims are entirely different things. People are really silly with their dramatic associations.
@Pizzazz, do you not let your dog out to pee, or run around? That sounds like abuse to me. Your dogs probably hate their lives, living with you. That's enough internet for you today. Go to sleep now, you have school in the morning.
@Batnan, actually they're quite wonderfully happy living in a nice house with their own pool. As for bathroom breaks, that's like three minutes tops in a shaded area, and as I said, we hike daily, minimum 6 miles daily. A sleepy husky is a happy husky, after all! You're like really taking this personally, random internet person. As for school, I do my college courses little by little, but will eventually have my bachelor's in animal husbandry soon, and will keep going. Thank you for your concern with my sleep, though it is kind of creepy.
@Batnan, sorry my written words caused you emotions and pangs of guilt, though. That's on you, not me. Have a wonderful night! ❤️
@Pizzazz, I'm not exactly sure where you got that I feel guilty. Assuming people's emotions, is also creepy, so I'm glad to see we're on the same page there, sport. Someone should give you that well deserved "I'm an asshole who yells at people on the internet" sticker that you're obviously gunning for. Poor little baby.
@Batnan, I got it from you interjecting into the conversation and failing in an attempt to somehow "out-do" me like a child. Once again, as I've explained TWICE now, I wasn't yelling and I apologized to the whiner for coming off that way. The only babies I see are the two dolts attempting to make this a bigger issue than it is. I'm sorry you have nothing better to do on a Sunday night. Also, I'll proudly take the asshole title, as I'd rather be an asshole who rightly puts two ignorant people in their place than to not say anything at all and allows said ignorant people to continue basking in that arrogance and unnecessary defensiveness. Take it to Tumblr.
@Pizzazz, you're telling people what to do with their animals. You are not a vet, your opinion was not asked for, or welcomed. You're proud to be an asshole to strangers? That's pretty pathetic in all honesty. And no, you didn't put me in my place, you just used words in an attempt to. That's not how things work. But clearly, you're too stupid to understand that.
@Batnan, I'm telling people what's right. Deal with it.
@Pizzazz, no, you're telling people what to do. There's a difference, and that certainly isn't right. Go tell it to your dogs, and leave people the hell alone.
@Batnan, let me redo that one. I'm telling people what's right and giving facts per expert advice because they posted publicly that they would do something similar based on a meme full of ignorance. Deal with it.
@Batnan, also, I'm quite content in my intelligence given the degrees I have. You're opinion of my intelligence means nothing to me. I guess you really DO have nothing better to do on a Sunday night. Sorry... Was I yelling again? Don't want to hurt your fragile feewings.
@Pizzazz, telling people to "deal with it" is a clear sign of your defeat. It doesn't matter what you think is right, telling people what to do with their animals isn't right. You weak little thing, are you even reading my comments? Or are you just telling me to deal with it, because you have noting else to add?
@Batnan, are you done with your tantrum, diaper baby?
@Pizzazz, diaper baby? Really? Are you 5? And actually I'm waiting for you to finish your tantrum, so I can start mine. But, by all means, take you're time.
@Pizzazz, I'm not reading your unnecessary novels because I'm comfortable in the facts that I presented and am confident in that I know what the hell im talking about. Future Animal husbandry/biology degree and all. You're being defensive for no reason so I'm leaving you with these parting words, should you wake up from your childish tantrum. When you two bints decide to take horrible advice from a meme and shave your dogs, I hope this conversation sticks in your minds, because two scenarios will happen. 1. You'll not shave your dogs and your dogs will live wonderful lives, which is all I really care about (even though they'll be stuck with you losers). 2. You'll shave your dogs anyway in some childish stubborn way which only hurts your dogs and proves my point of what kind of heartless cowardly people you are. The choice is yours. I wish luck to your dogs.
@Pizzazz, sincerely, an asshole that loves animals and will do whatever necessary to make them healthy, since that's my f*cking livelihood and lifelong passion. 😻
@Ariel7z, if you live in the Southeastern US or a desert region like Arizona, I'd say go for it. I live in TN/GA and personally, I'd never get a husky. It just seems wrong (if you've ever experienced our summers you know what I mean), but if I did have one, I'd keep its hair short from March to October.
@King Spunkmonkey, and you'd be wrong for doing so.
@Pizzazz, the ASPCA site says it's ok to give a long haired dog a "summer cut," and you stated earlier that you weren't against such a thing. I'm not sure why I didn't think of this but the same site also mentions that long haired dogs shed in the summer. So clearly, there is some need for hair removal. So that's that then...
Batnan and Ariel is basically right about at least one thing: your approach to this situation could be very much improved. If your passion is truly for the well-being of animals - and not just your ego, using animals as a veneer - and you want your efforts to make a positive impact, you should really work on how you handle discussions like this. Because in this thread, you're doing more to turn people off than encourage them to listen and do "what's right."
Just some constructive criticism, take it or leave it.
@King Spunkmonkey, I'm against shaving, yes. Had you read the conversation (including the part everyone seems to ignore where I apologized to the brat for coming off wrong) you'd have seen she was referring to shaving. Your post insinuates you agree with her about shaving, since that's what she's talking about. My approach was fine, because I've learned it's the only way people will listen.
There's no reason to shave dogs unless you want them to get skin issues. Shaving should be banned.
Stolen memes! Broken Dreams!
This just makes me excited to shave my own husky this summer
@Lumix, Makes me excited to trim my pubes.
@Lumix, I was always told not to shave my husky. The vet said she could burn and that her fur naturally kept heat off of her. All we were told to do was brush her to keep the shedding off of her.
@Lumix, DO NOT shave your husky.
Their hair has a natural oil that keeps them cold in the summer and warm in the winter.
If you shave them the oil will never come back.
@Tyrellious, Oh I had no idea. I hadn't researched it much up to this point, but thanks for telling me. Might've dodge a bullet there
@JetandJag, what if you live in a temperate place, and your dog is not expected to be left alone outside to survive the winter or summer?
@Lumix, not a problem
@Lumix, please do not shave huskies or any dog for that matter. I posted above to the dolts why and they got defensive.
@JetandJag, be careful using capitals in here. Some whiners think that's yelling.
