Good. A full 20, please.
I feel like jail time for a first offense is a little much but slapping them with a $5000 fine and community service seems fair.
@ImNotRacistBut, a first offence is one thing. a first offence that inspires thousands of other people to commit the same offence is something entirely different.
@ImNotRacistBut, you can’t let something like this be seen as something small, if you don’t hit the “criminal” hard with justice others will follow suit knowing they won’t get punished much, yeah it’s harsh but most deterrents need to be
@Sweet Baby Jones, A crime should have a punishment that aligns with the actions, not punish someone for the actions other sentient beings choose to independently perform.
If we didn't do that then we'd fall into an unjust society where we "hang horse thieves high so everyone else can see".
@Sweet Baby Jones, I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree. Unless she openly encouraged others to do it, she should be punished for her own actions, as each other person who has done it should be punished for theirs.
@ImNotRacistBut, naw fvck her she gets what she deserves.
@DrSin, people are idiots. People like her ate tide pods because it was trending you think 2 20 year sentences is gonna stop them?
@BlazingBowman, death wasn’t stopping tide pods, but a lot of 20 year olds so fear prison more than death
@ImNotRacistBut, $5000 would be rather light, compared to the damage caused. When you do that, the company has to recall *everything* that could have been contaminated, which would not only cost money to get done, but also has to take lost potential profit into account.
@ImNotRacistBut, I don’t know where that mouth has been and I don’t want to find out via odd symptoms.
@Ultimatum, if indeed damage was caused, they should be liable. I agree.
@ImNotRacistBut, maybe a year of cleaning the store where this happened would do.
@ImNotRacistBut, No, I think Jail time is perfect. What she did was dangerous. If she was sick or something then the people who bought the cream could get sick too. What she did could've had major effects on other people so her punishment should be major too.
@OT12EXO, so you’re 19 years old, hanging out with your friends and decide to pull a prank. You open tub, take a lick, and put it back. That’s worth 20 years in prison? Absolutely not. My point is the punishment doesn’t meet the crime. 20 years in prison is cruel and unusual punishment.
@OT12EXO, do you understand what the American prison system does to people? Sending someone who could genuinely be reformed or helped into that system is a huge mistake. It was a dumb prank with potential outcomes beyond her scope of attention. Prison time will only build her into a repeat offender
@Sweet Baby Jones, you can’t punish someone for the actions of others. Especially if she didn’t openly encourage their behaviour
@RollingInD1ck, Charles Manson was convicted of first degree murder, even though he never actually participated or directly ordered it. It was accepted that his ideology constituted an act of conspiracy in them.
I’m sure there are less extreme examples of people being convicted for the actions of others, but that’s the obvious one which springs to mind. And if she put it online with a hashtag, that’s arguably encouraging others to do the same.
@ImNotRacistBut, The punishment is so severe because these laws were made back in the 1980s when a man was putting poison in people's Tylenol
@SAW, yeah that’s a little different lol.
@ImNotRacistBut, Well yeah it's a different scenario But the law broadly applies to tampering with products
@ImNotRacistBut, 1980's Tylenol murders. The reason government don't play with food tampering
@ImNotRacistBut, the cost of products like ice cream will now go up becuase of her. Because she did it and put it online companies will now to protect themselves have to put more stuff on their product for consumer protection. Which means it adds to the cost of the product, the company may have to get a new machine, it means more energy consumed, etc.
@MrJojo, her original post included her saying she was sick still, and she told others to make it a trend, basically trying to start an “epidemic” (which is what she called it)
@arverni, yeah, possibly. Seems like something they should have had in place already though. They chose to roll the dice when they decided not to put seals on their products.
@ImNotRacistBut, Hitler didn’t kill a single Jew himself.(the only new he killed was himself, haha). He inspired others. This girl purposefully started a trend that inspired others. She gets a harsh penalty as a result.
@MrJojo, she did openly encourage. Like Hitler.
@Child Slapper, well in that case let’s kill her
@ImNotRacistBut, nah, let her kill herself.
@ImNotRacistBut, not that they could or would pay for it.
@DrSin, you know what else they fear more than death?
@Child Slapper, it won’t be long now
Look up the Tylenol murders and you’ll understand why the jail time
Shes a minor, female and minority. She won't be in trouble. Disney may make her a Disney princess
@Dknessfalls, the new James Bond I mean 007 will be a black female
@Dknessfalls, isnt she the new Ariel?
@Dknessfalls, You underestimate people’s love of ice-cream. It transcends all. She’ll get in trouble.
@Dknessfalls, yeah cause minorities nothing but great outcomes with law enforcement.
@Dknessfalls, they're going after her essentially as a message to everyone else copying it. She's going to get something for this
@Dimir FTW, the ‘double-o’ numbers aren’t unique to an agent, so when Bond retires the designation 007 gets passed on to someone else - same as there would have been a different 007 before Bond got his license to kill. No different to a football team signing a new player and him taking on the (for example) no 11 shirt from someone else.
James Bond is still (for the next movie, anyway) Daniel Craig.
@Cruxio , I hear there were murders due to Tylenol tampering in the 1980s which is why the law is so strict with food and drug tampering.
And I believe it should be. She could have no telling what biohazard she spreads by doing that.
How the fvck did this start anyway. As soon as i saw this
Sh!t was trending i got unreasonably angry. I swear to god i see anyone doing this they aint leaving the store until the cops haul them off.
Ha! You dumb bitch.
Why am I not surprised that’s what they look like?
So for those who want an update to this story, since she is only 17 her punishment will be dependent upon the juvenile justice system, so they may get dropped. Her boyfriend however, who is legally an adult, still has charges pending against him.
I see anyone doing this and I’m going Frank Castle in them
@DikDastardly, please tell me you meant to say "in" rather than "on", because that makes it like, 16 times funnier.
I mean I only eat Ben & Jerry's and their ice cream is sealed with plastic, so I'm safe.
I’ll let her lick my cone anytime
Death penalty is too lenient for this ho. Torture may me about right. Then death.
Man, some murderers dont even get 20 years
@Datsatoilet, but they face much longer sentences. Just because she’s facing it, doesn’t mean she’ll get it.
Wtf is ice cream licking?
@The Pun Shielder, walking into a store, opening a ice cream container, licking it and putting it back on the shelf
