There is a lot wrong with this statement
Step one to destroying your rights it to discredit and villainize the people who created them.
@ThePandaPool , I've seen yoyo backin' AOC's ideas like they had some legitimacy to them but never explaining why. I don't think he's the type that cares. (The Liberachi type)
@M0RT0S, yea. Hplox is part of that little crew too.
wow, didnt know I was browsing SJW pics.
@XxDEMONBANExX, your not this is uncut every post gets uploaded and judging by that ratio.
There was actually a large argument that went down since some did not believe in slavery. Unfortunately they did not hold fast to their beliefs to get the document pushed through.
@GFDOOM, they were aware of the starting Sparks of what would turn into the abolishinist movement. I admit that they probably expected it to happen through the legislative process band not through a president signing a Presidential order that helped lead to war.
They were also worried about the threat of invasion, the need of eligible soldiers for the militia was high. It was more important to have non slaves from those States than to not have anyone from those States. Not to mention the people from the abolishinist's own States that may have revolted against them.
It is occasionally prudent to compromise, as an exception, one of one's beliefs in order to assure most beliefs thrive. It is not a perfect or even an elegant system, but it is the best we have for the purpose it serves
@Jakobian, I agree with almost all of what you're saying. I feel some beliefs should be held to even to death. To paraphrase voltaire "I may not agree with what you say but will fight to the death for your right to say it" I feel there are some other things worth death such as freedom. I do understand what you are saying though. Some things can be compromised for the greater good. I do feel your statement was a great one though. Good on you
@GFDOOM, both of you explained yourselves very well, the only thing I have for you is to defend your ideals till your own death is one thing, but defending your beliefs until the death of your country is a different thing all together. Not saying it would happen, but I'm sure that such a divide would pose a real threat.
@ThePandaPool , I agree but in the situation I feel that colonies would have no problem teaming up to fight the British until the threat had been diminished. But of course hindsight, that and there is no real way to know so both could be right and wrong like schrodinger. Jeez I love this community.
@GFDOOM, @ThePandaPool , this doesn't feel like the normal internet, and I like that
I mean, Jefferson openly pushed for an amendment to abolish slavery, but don't let that get in the way of your revisionism.
Sounds like a occupy Democrats article
Where's the funny?!
