This comic almost seemed deep
Going into this comment I know I'll probably be down voted, but I think that the original argument is not that there should be NO artists or humanities majors, but rather that there are way too many. We need a core group of good actors, artists, singers, anthropologists, and English majors. But it's gotten to the point where a ridiculous amount of people just choose to be a drama major or choose to be an English major, because they think science and math is too hard. And so the world has become full of dispassionate "humanitarians" who find a second rate job that they hate and go through life with no benefit to society. Yes, those core group of humanitarians have entertained us and shaped society, but the vast majority end up in a field that has nothing to do with their major. When we encourage STEM, it's not because the humanities are "wrong", it's because science can be so interesting and beneficial, even though it is rigorous and complex.
@MikeWazowski, I totally agree, except a) you need to look up humanitarian b) somebody has to flip the burgers.
@Toad, Haha yes as my grandfather always said "The world needs ditch diggers too." Many of those people become second rate accountants or salesman or some other job that they later find unfulfilling. Or they follow their passion of acting or writing and end up dirt poor with nothing but a drama degree. Yes I want people to follow their passions, it's just I think many people would be surprised at how interesting and enlightening STEM can be if they got over their fear of high school chemistry and took some courses. I think the world would be a better place and people would find themselves happier.
He grew eyebrows in the last frame
@Broken Condom, the other guy grew eyebrows in the second frame. It must be contagious.
A world without art means a world without Pokemon. Or half-life. Or Mass Effect. OR ELSA
World would be a better place
Art and science have often crossed paths. Artists were often hired, especially for medical sciences, to document discoveries and create teaching aids. Before photography, and again before microscopic photography, artistic renderings were the only thing scientists could use. Paintings and sculptures are still used to teach science. This comic is stupid.
This Is Actually a great topic and In my opinion. Everyone would be so much more productive but everyone would also lack creativity .
This is somewhat connected, watch monuments men, it is really good!
All is necessary whether relevant to your point or not
