They were very accepting to other cultures, they would quickly integrate into the cultures of lands they conquered and spread their own culture. Facts are, Vikings were body guards the the Byzantine emperors for hundreds of years.

You can bet your ass America greatly improved the Americas economic development and we have a "mixing pot" of cultures, doesn't negate the fact that it was violently ripped from the natives hands? @CriTiKa1, I'm with you. Vikings are bad ass. That's like saying the Romans were nothing but land thieves. Sure they were but they made contributions and brought other cultures to other lands. Which is both a positive and a negative but if everyone had just stayed in their little pockets of land, their "ancestral home land" the world would be a terrible place.

The Mongols butchered hundreds of thousands of people when they were carving out their empire. But that empire later led to greater trade between Europe and Asia. They weren't "dirty land thieves", they were conquerors. And so were the Vikings.

@CriTiKa1, slapping another word on the problem doesn't make it better. England destroyed the government ruling India back when it was thriving, but they introduced schooling, roads, and trade. Yet India is one of the poorest countries in the world. You can't just look at the goods. Look at native Americans or native african people's. They are "dirty land thieves" who's homeland benefits from the new found materials. Rome is my favorite empire of all time, but did you know they claimed every war was defensive. You know why? Because conquest was viewed poorly by the masses because it was wrong. But if you claimed the lands in a defensive war, hey man spoils. No one is saying good and bad didn't come out from it, I'm just saying is they stole the land, by force, settled there, and blended and mated with the orignal population.

Expensive, but it existed.

Can I just say, I feel like these get a bad wrap. They certainly shouldn't be used as a substitute for real hands on parenting; but if this is going to help stop my three year old autistic son from jumping into oncoming traffic, then I am all for it.

@Generic Hot Chick, my grandma had to put her dog in a stroller for a while after it had leg surgery. It was a stroller specially made for dogs but it looks like one you can put a kid in. Whenever me and the family are out with my 10 year old nephew whenever he gets mad about something or sees something that catches his eye he likes to run off in the middle of the crowd and we can't get to him or we'll look around and be like where did he go and we'll see him way the hell away from us. During those times if I had seen somebody selling child leashes I would not have hesitated to buy one because little kids running off is not something they should do in Houston. We honestly think that he is at least slightly austistic.

@Relatively Gruntled, some kids don't have the mental capability to be on a crowded street. I mean some kids actually have mental disorders where the sound of traffic or other loud noises will disturb them and lead to them running off to a quiet place. These would allow those children's parents to keep up with them.

@George Feeny, then that's a viable reason. But there are plenty of people using these just because they feel like it. I was at the pediatrician's office with my son and saw a lady with her child on a leash like this and she let him run around on the leash while she was texting and such. I over heard another kid ask her why she was on it and she said because she wanted to be able to control where he goes. Not a good reason. How about putting the phone down and actually pay attention to your child. I then got called to the doc so end of story lol.

@George Feeny, I have met children with disorders like you described. As usual, medical reasons are an exception. However, parents in this day and age are paying less and less attention to their kids. My mum works in learning support at a school, and they have a hard time even trying to get parents to read to their children.

I remember babysitting for an Asian family who told me to place the leash on their toddler everytime we're gonna go for a walk. The leash had a monkey on it and ater a while I figured out why the child needs the leasg and the mobkey symbol made sense.
