I never quite understood what Gandalf got out of the whole stealing a few things from Erebor plan. You gotta remember that originally they had no intention of slaying Smaug and only hired Bilbo as a burglar. But what does Gandalf get out of roping Bilbo into it? Was he just screwing with him?
@Lord Cthulhu, well you see, as the book is titled "The Hobbit" Bilbo is the main character and therefore must be included in the main questline
@Lord Cthulhu, in middle earth Gandalf is more or less an angel (a maiar idk how its spelled). He wanted to help bring the dwarves back into power since the lonely mountain was a strategic position in the upcoming war with Sauron that he saw building. They didn't know if Smaug was still alive and so Bilbo was brought as a scout because they figured Smaug wouldn't recognize a Hobbit giving them a little advantage. They did plan on killing Smaug if he was alive, they just didn't plan that part out all too well haha
He’s going to masturbate, essentially
