I don’t doubt something horrible happened to her, but we cannot allow a precedent of an allegation that is completely unsupported by evidence being enough to punish someone. That’s how society dies. When a lifetime of work building a career can be ended with an accusation, why would you ever put the work in?
@I Are Lebo, the guy is still a douche though, like, objectively
@Dexios S Divine, yeah, most likely. So? We can’t find people guilty just because we don’t like them, anymore than we can find people innocent just because we do like them.
There’s a separation between a job and the person that does it that it seems like more and more people don’t recognize. It makes no sense to me, either.
My brother worked with Kevin Spacey briefly a few years back, and from his reports, I had the strong suspicion that he was a pervert ages ago, and from I what I hear that suspicion was quite widespread. That makes him a worse person, but it doesn’t make him any less of a fantastic actor.
I agree of course with holding people responsible for their actions, and especially for their crimes, but Louis CK’s sexual proclivities are no one else’s business as long as he doesn’t cross a legal line.
It seems hypocritical to me, the attitudes towards the subjects of scandals like these. I’ve heard complaints about Louis CK going back to his job as a comedian, and I’ve
seen great satisfaction for Kevin Spacey being fired from House of Cards.
I’ve never heard anyone have a bad word for Michael Jackson, and that guy definitely raped or molested several children.
I don’t know what to think about the issue. There’s a direct inverse correlation between goodness and greatness. Most of history’s greatest men and women have been bastards of one sort or another. It feels like we are trying to destroy anyone who doesn’t fit a narrow ideal of ideology or perspective.
@I Are Lebo, I stop liking people when i find out how shïtty they are, regardless of talent. In my eyes, if I don’t like being around you I wouldn’t like working with you, regardless of how good you are at it, or in this case, become a large voice in how my country works... not saying lets just let accusations be enough for proof, but, if theres smoke theres a fire some where
@Dexios S Divine, not liking someone isn’t enough to want them destroyed. What do you think that we, as a society, should do with racists?
I’m not talking about ignorant people who have never encountered a particular race and so hold misinformed views about them, but people who hate and/or fear and hold prejudice towards an ethnic background?
@I Are Lebo, i mean we can’t kill em, good luck putting them in a system as “racist”, cant stop and question people who “look” rasict. Racism is an idea, cant really kill an idea
@I Are Lebo, and yeah really isn’t, but come on, assholes aren’t great to be around, why choose to let them be your boss
@Dexios S Divine, so what should we do with them? Some guy is recorded talking about how he “just doesn’t like nïggers. I don’t want anything bad to happen to them or anything, I just wish they’d go back to Africa or something and leave the white country to the white people”. The recording gets out and this racist man is publicly identified as such.
What should happen to him? Should he get fired? Should his family leave him? Should he be imprisoned, or maybe just ‘re-educated’? What should we, as a society, do with people like that?
@I Are Lebo, why let a racist live a good life? Sure as shït hell ruin peoples lives if he got any kind of power, so why let em get there?
@Dexios S Divine, so a racist should be unemployable?
@I Are Lebo, pretty much, only places that are gonna hire them are other raicsts so. I mean, go through alabama or georgia, if you’re anything but white or red in some of the towns there you’ll get shït on. Like i said, we can do whatever with racists or similar shït, but itll never die off
@Dexios S Divine, you don’t see how that plan would backfire?
@I Are Lebo, yeah, rasict criminals, or the definition of racism broadens to a dumb point, but what else is there to do with garbage people? Gonna herd everyone and “teach” them the right way to think? Curse of freedom, all or nothing or its not really freedom. Not like thought policing ever worked. People already get fired for being racist and they just move some where rasict and go on with their life. Its really not a problem that can be fixed, only goes away slowly till its just a blemish
@Dexios S Divine, it’s not as simple as they move and move on. When people are downgraded by society from people to garbage, there’s a lot of problems that come from that.
Circling back to the actual post and the original point, rape allegations ruin lives. There’s a growing list of men, many of whom are provably innocent of the rape or sexual assault they were accused of, who have their careers ended and their families lives ruined.
How many people lost their jobs because Roseanne insulted someone over social media? The standard being applied is not sustainable.
@I Are Lebo, i mean people don’t take accusations that serious, and if they do they do an investigation, why this women failed to stop him, no hard proof or people to support her. Treating accusations as guilty isnt that persons fault, its everyone elses for assuming guilt with nothing but words
@Dexios S Divine, that’s the entire point I’m getting at. The standard being held by today’s society, particularly in the media and colleges and other left wing majority places essentially boils down to a hypocritically applied Guilty Until Proven Innocent, at least when the accused isn’t allied to them.
That’s why Roseanne gets fired for tweeting a racist remark, but Sarah Jeong gets hired in spite of hers.
@I Are Lebo, not like i agree with the dumb shït people do these days. Id fire a racists, zero hesitation. Gotta be hard proof for it or its just shït talk rumors. People are sheep these days, nothing intelligent people can do about it
@Dexios S Divine, firing someone for being discriminatory or derogatory is one thing, but firing someone for holding a racist sentiment is exactly what wrong think means. Who are you to decide what opinions can and can’t be held? We should judge each other by our actions, not our thoughts or opinions.
@I Are Lebo, a racist is just gonna cause problems, come on. No one is gonna know you’re a racist till you say or do something racist. People get fired for verbal sexual harassment too, speaking is an action
@Dexios S Divine, you’re only looking at the small picture
@I Are Lebo, and whats the big picture? Hitler 2.0? People like racist don’t deserve respect, they literally don’t give it to other people, don’t see a point in treating trash kindly
@I Are Lebo, should a Supreme Court justice not be judged on his/her morality? I agree that the incident itself should not serve as a precedent for qualification, however the way he acted and the things he said during the testimony were absolutely unacceptable of a potential Supreme Court judge.
@Yooster, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for a person to become upset when they’re being accused of gang rape, especially when a plurality of people assume he’s guilty without hearing any evidence.
@Dexios S Divine, it’s not a matter of respect, it’s an issue of due process. Wrong think laws and attitudes cause more of the attitude they’re trying to suppress, not less. This attitude towards race, the double standard, makes MORE racists (on both sides), not less.
@I Are Lebo, Thats why it never really went away. no one is going to side with a racist besides another racist. I’m not going to change my view on garbage people like racists. It won’t have a strong hold like it used to, i hope, but it’ll never go away. People don’t like racists and racists don’t like races and people who don’t like racists, thats just not gonna go away
@I Are Lebo, have you watched his testimony? His entire demeanor is largely disrespectful and to add on top of that he lied under oath. No Supreme Court justice should do that
@Yooster, its why I don’t like. Regardless of the rape accusation, I wouldn’t have like him any way
@Yooster, what did he say that was a lie?
@I Are Lebo, one of the things was he said that the Devil’s Triangle was a drinking game but, if you don’t already know, it’s a threesome with 2 guys and 1 girl. John Oliver covered it I recommend checking it out
@I Are Lebo, well unfortunately in the world we live in today once you're accused of something u might as well have done it cause your life will be ruined and even if it is proven that u had absolutely nothing to do with what u were accused of you're still probably gonna be remembered for that forever and it doesn't seem like that's gonna change anytime soon and what's even worse is that the ppl that accuse these ppl and ruin their lives usually get away with it without getting in any trouble
@Yooster, I used to like John Oliver, but he’s become a preachy, whiney, douchebag lately.
@sgc6610, and you don’t have a problem with that?
@I Are Lebo, bro don't even get me started I really don't even wanna get into this cause I can go on for days and I'm pretty sure I've have a convo with u b4 so I know u can go back and forth with me in an intelligent convo for awhile but all I'm gonna say is it makes me sick what the world is coming to I'm only 27 and yet from the time I was a kid to now things r so much different and it is definitely not for the better
@I Are Lebo, I just feel like he acted like a child regardless of whether it’s true or not
@sgc6610, yeah, I agree on that
Or at least until it can be used for political advantage.
@ThePandaPool , she had the advantage... And they still spat in her face.
@mas2de, to be fair it was a he said she said, in a republican majority, i doubted she’d win with no hard proof. Fück the fratt though, sad im stuck with him for who knows how long....
Biden. You've graduated to adult females now? Rather than just creeping on little girls.
Joe please don’t...
@megamanx181x, don't stop that is
I just read that she admitted that she made it up. I could be wrong, if any of you want to do extra research on it and verify or deny that it would be good.
@vonwulf337, I think it was a couple of others, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did too.
@vonwulf337, nah, I just looked it up. There's kind of a confusing story, but it looks like a different person (i'll call her OW) claimed to have sent anonymous letter, but now OW is going back on it. Ford hasn't changed her stance
Edit-Me when I saw downvotes on this comment: Why are you booing me? I'm right.
@vonwulf337, my understanding, as I think someone might have already said, is that there was an anonymous letter sent to somebody involved. Some lady, and I didn’t get the name, found out about it and claimed that she was the one who had sent it. Later she recanted and said it was not her. The original woman still claims to have been assaulted.
@vonwulf337, yep you’re wrong
@vonwulf337, Source? Standard RW Political-Nonsense Smear Daily?
@mas2de, I guess I should’ve specified more. I only heard this from a few people and I was not sure if it was actually true or not so I was asking people to verify or deny it.
