@NameyMcNameFace I believe it is illegal because when you sign the rental agreement you agree that you will return the car in the same condition it is rented in. I’m sure there are contract clauses in the paperwork that specifically refer to instances like this (interchanging parts of car).
The best place to do something like this would be renting at an airport early in the morning then returning late because the likelihood of running in to the same person who did the first inspection is lower.
In summary, I’m sure it is illegal, but the chances of getting caught are probably not significant.
@MrLampoon, as someone who worked for a rental car company when I was younger no one really looks at the cars unless a customer really messed up. I still have videos/pics of the cars that I’ve seen just utterly destroyed
@Jordo99, haha that’s pretty awesome
Did you see any instances of this happening? Changing parts, etc.
@MrLampoon, you can return the car at a different station though. Depending on the company.
@hasher22 , excellent point, I didn’t think of that at first.
@MrLampoon, not true, the chances of you getting caught are actually quite high. All parts of cars (including tires) come with serial numbers. All the rental company has to do when it receives the cars is to check the obviously easy to replace parts' serial numbers.
@Mhael, true.. however, in the times I have observed returning a rental (family trips growing up and at the end of my honeymoon), the person processing the return simply did a walk around, glancing at the car (and I’m sure the tires). He didn’t check the tires specifically.
@MrLampoon, I’ve seen the tires a couple of times. I worked at a franchise and usually when corporate cars got dropped off when they weren’t suppose to they usually had this happen
@Jordo99, that’s odd lol. They don’t want to get caught swapping tires, but they draw attention to themselves by dropping the car off early
@MrLampoon, yeah and the different location drop off usually throws a flag
Its 1 am and a new update. And no one is here, but i cant think of any witty comments. How
Inconvenient *looks at my username*
@Inconvenience Man, that’s like saying “first” with extra steps
@Inconvenience Man, what are you talking about 1 am is hours away still.... hello from the west coast
Mine surprises me with flowers and that is pretty romantic to me even tho it’s so simple
@luckeestar, a man can never go wrong with buying flowers. Especially if it’s her favorite flower.
@MrLampoon, and they were my favorite flowers!
@luckeestar, good! He listens!
aww.. so sweet
