@DrSin, I tried Goblin Slayer, the first episode nearly made me quit, wash my eyes, and never speak of it again. All the memes made me carry on tho incase it got better, and I'm glad I carried on so far. Only about a half dozen episodes in but it's great so far, I'm just hoping it doesn't go back to that now they have an established party.

@CoolGuyDeath, past that, I can only give personal recommendations. Just about any other anime I could suggest deviate from the Berserk-y feel. Baccano! is my personal favorite. Then try Psycho Pass, Kengan Asura (may be better read), Akame ga Kill (certainly better read), Black Lagoon & Jormangand, Casshern Sins, Fairy Gone, Ga-Rei-Zero, Gantz (mbbr), Talentless Nana (its currently coming out, bit its a great read too), Afro Samurai, Overlord, Seraph no Owari, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and The Promised Neverland (the manga is done). Some more obscure anime that tend to be overlooked, but I would still reccomend: Tower of Druaga, ef: a Tale of Memories, Shiki, Birdy the Mighty, Desert Punk, Guilty Crown, and Speed Grapher. *yawns* happy weekend my dude. Enjoy

@DrSin, oh absolutely. And I love both and you can tell that there are some references from berserk in goblin slayer. It does hit different from happy d&d adventure to a sharp twist of rape crude murder. Berserk also does a fantastic job of making everything seem hopeless while also giving a relentless drive to keep going

@Ghijanti, I don't understand the issue people have with the anime. I love goblin slayer, I'm a light novel reader and was soooo happy for the anime, and then it was just a bunch of whinnying online. You wanna know what actually made me very upset and cry? Made in the Abyss. To me that was really messed up.

@mayora13, my issue with the first episode of goblin slayer was the way they handled the rape. Goblins are bad, they made that clear, but it was bordering on porn, they could have made the 'goblins are bad' point without having to be so graphic. I also think to from looking at memes like the above, it's quite normal to feel that way when you are new to anime. I saw 'My Hero Academia' first as my kids were watching it during marches lockdown, then I tried 'Goblin Slayer'. First episode shocked me, but the next ones were amazing. Since my son found out I started watching anime tho he recommended 'Attack on Titan' first, and that was the first one I watched every single one. Then he recommended JoJo, watched all of the English ones thinking that was all there was to watch (we only had funimation and Netflix at the time). Then he recommended deathnote, then Demonslayer, then said I could carry on JoJo with subs if I got us crunchyroll, so I'm now on season 4 of that. ------

@mayora13, so basically, Goblin Slayer hurt my poor innocent eyes I think, like the picture above, proving the pictures point very well. I will gey back to it as I was enjoying the show after the first episode, but first I have to finish all my sons recommendations. Thanks to everyone on here recommending animes too, I've been secretly adding the pics with your comments on them to faves to reference later :)

@Ghijanti, the majority of the recommendations above are mostly for shock value. I'm very open with the genres I like. My eclectic recommendations will be: Overlord (light novel is amazing) Gintama, monthly girls Nozaki kun, Golden Kamui, A silent voice, My love story, Made in the Abyss, and Wotakoi.

@mayora13, my buddy was trying to get me to watch made in abyss a while ago and i finnally got around to it. And yeah, Its pretty messed up. And i love it. A dark anime under the guise of a lighthearted adventure anime, only to gut punch you about half way through, and follow up with a kick to the balls later on. Currently rewatching it rn as i type.
Watch “Goblin Slayer” and you’ll either be so uncomfortable, or you’ll lust for more, and if that doesn’t do it find “ANOTHER” uncut of course, no enough ? Find “Blood +C” oh you think that’s not bad, watch original “Berserk” still think you got this , fine go watch “Corpse Party!”
