guy tries to mess with tribe, gets pwned
American Gods. Awesome show.
I wish I could give this more than one upvote
That guys body will never be recovered and he got what he deserved, the pos going where he wasn’t allowed to try and convert a primitive tribe to an imaginary being and he got others involved who have since been arrested for basically assiting in homicide, the funny part is that there are open charges of murder for unknown individuals for killing him, aka the tribe members. The problem is that they are a protected tribe but the laws require charging them for murder but it contradicts the protection status. I just hope they never get his body like the two fishermen who were killed a few years ago on the island.
@Megahut, a little harsh don’t you think? I definitely agree that he really didn’t think things through and should have definitely known better than go to an island with known cases of the tribe killing outsiders. But even still, he probably still had friends and family that will never see him again and that’s disheartening. He might have been a really good guy that just made a bad choice. We all make mistakes and sometimes we make our final one but that doesn’t mean we are bad people who deserve ridicule.
@Billiam Shankspear, sure we are "bad guy"but that doesn't make us bad guy
@Megahut, I’m a Christian, and I think what he did was incredibly stupid. He probably had no plan, did he speak the language? How would he over come that? This has happened before with the fishermen. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve a proper burial or his family doesn’t deserve closure. And just because the island is protected doesn’t mean they can kill people, it means whoever goes there will be charged.
@Blargetha, the tribe there has no clue about what the rest of the world is like and for them he was intruding in their home territory and so they acted in the only way they know in order to continue survival, they know nothing of outside rules. He had been trying things for about a week before going on shore and he knew what he was doing was illegal and according to the letter he left behind he didn’t care because he thought he was going to be saving their souls by introducing Christianity to them plus he even said that if he was killed that they shouldn’t try to get his body. What he did he did knowing it was wrong and he knew the history and that what he was doing was basically suicide but went ahead and did it.
@Billiam Shankspear, no I don’t think I am being harsh, see my other reply for why
@Megahut, where did he say they shouldn’t recover his body? I can only find in the letter where he said “I DON’T WANT TO DIE”. And you defend the tribe saying they don’t understand the outside world, but the man thought he was helping this tribe. Why is it okay for them to kill for believing they were protecting themselves and another man to die for believing he was helping them? Like I said I think he was dumb for doing it but he didn’t deserve to die. People who do things that are dumb and illegal don’t deserve to die.
@Blargetha, consequences of someone’s actions are what they are, if death is a possible consequence and you act on it then you accept the consequence regardless if it’s stupid or not. I haven’t read the actual letter myself but have read what was reported to be in it and the no recovery of his body if killed was part of it, and yes I know it was stated he said in it that he didn’t want to die so he knew it was a possible outcome of his actions and he still did it. It was self defense for them as he was an invader in their home. The crux of the problem is applying modern things to a civilization that doesn’t basically exist in the modern era.
@Megahut, I agree with most of what you’re saying, but hoping for them to never recover the body, basically for the family and friends of this man to suffer, is just a dick move. I don’t think he should have done it and he may have known what the outcome was going to be but that doesn’t mean he deserved it nor does it mean his loved ones deserve to suffer.
@Blargetha, he knew what was gonna happen. The whole note read like a suicide note that’s not a suicide note.
@Blargetha, I never said I hope that they never recover his body, I was simply saying that they won’t just like what happened with the two fishermen. The suffering of his friends and family are his fault plain and simple, if outsiders interfere further they risk exposing the entire island population to diseases that they may not be able to fight off after the isolation they have had and then the deaths that occur from that is his fault as well. It occurred through out history when missionaries and explorers have visited other tribes.
