Everyone's debating on if girls should join the boys scouts but no one's asking to add more camping and adventure skills to the girl scouts
“We want to have our own thing” says the Boy Scouts.
“That’s exclusionary and bigoted. We want in.” Says the feminists.
“Okay fine, you’re in.” Says the Boy Scouts.
“We want our own group, and you’re not allowed in.” Says the feminists.
“But that’s exclusionary. We want in.” Says the Boy Scouts.
“Fück you, you white male POS.” Says the feminists.
@I Are Lebo, this is actually a choice by the Boy Scouts of America to keep the troops to a single gender. It has nothing to do with the girls in the troop excluding the boys.
@iOS12, that’s idiotic. That defies the entire purpose of allowing girls into the Boy Scouts in the first place. They should remain in the Girl Scouts and get the organization to give the services and host the events they want them to.
@I Are Lebo, when you're so filled with irrational hate you don't realize this rule was made by the boy scouts as a requirement.
@hollow114, I don’t hate this, it’s simply idiotic. It being a decision of the Boy Scouts makes it more idiotic, not less. They’re making the Girl Scouts obsolete while using double talk regarding sex based inclusivity.
@hollow114, I think his point was, why do the girls even want into Boy Scouts? Having their own Girl Scouts organization should be good enough, if they want to do the stuff that Boy Scouts do then just change what they do in Girl Scouts, and if they want an organization with both boys and girls then join or create one... there’s no need to make a gigantic fuss about Boy Scouts excluding girls (which they have been for years). I also don’t think boys should be allowed in Girl Scouts.
@I Are Lebo, you do realize they're completely different and competing organization right? Many parents prefer the boy scouts for their child of any gender because they prefer the program, that's one of thr largest pushes to allow girls in the boy Scott's. Avoiding the beaucratic crap-pile that is the girl scouts.
@I Are Lebo, letting girls into Boy Scouts had nothing to do with equality or feminism it was purely financial decision boys scouts were losing money and need more people to join
@Thone09, I don’t buy that. Not with the way it’s been implemented.
@Gallium , I do realize that the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts are different organizations. But they were developed to be complementary, not competitive.
@Trance Gemini, exactly. The entire purpose of the Boy Scouts was to provide a healthy environment for boys to develop healthy attitudes, responsibilities, and relations to do with becoming good men, while the Girl Scouts was to help girls learn how to be self reliant and responsible while providing a healthy environment for them to engage other girls while learning to be good women.
Why is it that girls are promoted to have their own spaces but boys are demanded to be inclusive? It doesn’t go both ways.
@I Are Lebo, that's a fair point, but with enrollment dropping within both organization it would seem that the've almost been forced to change thier stance on complementary/competitive. I think the recent law-suit brought forth by the girl scouts over the boy scouts name change is evidence of that shift.
@Gallium , indeed. The BSA as they are now calling themselves have made a series of poor decisions in regard to this.
The argument against gender segregation was a primary component of the push to allow girls in in the first place. This about-face by allowing a girls only division completely goes against the stance for inclusivity.
@I Are Lebo, here this can explain better then I could https://youtu.be/6bqd8CLAjBw and to answer the question of why girls into the Boy Scout and not boys into the Girl Scout the boys scouts have Eagle Scouts which looks really good on a college or job application way better then the female equivalent
@Thone09, that means that the Girl Scouts need to improve their organization, not that the Boy Scouts should be allowing girl only troops. Inclusivity doesn’t work when you force yourself into someone else’s organization and then try to exclude them.
There’s a large element of cognitive dissonance when you advocate for a ‘girls only Boy Scout troupe’.
@I Are Lebo, expect if you watch the video you would know that the girl only troupe is being formed by the Boy Scout and they current troupes groups are being given a choice to integrate the girls or not the girl only troupes are there for two things 1. Some will only feel comfortable around their own gender and 2. No organization in their right mind would let girls and boy commingle after a certain age you begging for a lawsuit if you keep them together long enough
@Thone09, I am not currently able to watch that video, I’ll tell you what I think when I do.
But this excuse doesn’t hold water. The Boy Scouts was formed to provide an environment for boys. For the argument of kids wanting be around their own gender, then the girls shouldn’t have been accepted in the first place. It’s unacceptable that girls can force themselves into groups with boys but boys can’t be inserted into groups with girls.
The double standard is unacceptable.
@I Are Lebo, but again the word forced applies that they were made to let the girls in from a outside force no one higher up said they have to let the girls in Nor wore they sued and made to let the girls no kicked open the door they did it willing
@Thone09, are you sure about that?
@I Are Lebo, I do have a problem with the fact that it does completely contradict the idea of allowing girls in, and it has far less to do with inclusivity and equality as it does the fact that it negates the idea that this would allow growing girls and boys to intermingle in a relatively controlled and nurturing environment, with common goals and camaraderie in mind. What could have ended up tearing down the walls in how the different sexes are raised to interact with one another is now just another perpetuation of the same mentality.
@Berntley, I’m just tired of the double standard of men only things being reviled and women only things being celebrated.
@I Are Lebo, I can understand that. Especially when there’s a double standard at play, which I honestly can’t speak for the dynamic of whatever the hell is happening in the scouts. And I know that you’re pretty fixed when it comes to “men and women are different at their very core” and all that, but my thing is, from a social aspect, they shouldn’t be treated as such. And the scouts is a social program. It doesn’t just teach survival skills, but standards of conduct, as well, and could be perfectly positioned to teach developing minds how to treat each other as equals, and stop perpetuating gender roles when it comes to social interaction.
For clarity, my daughter has been going to a Christian based daycare full time for three weeks, and suddenly, out of the blue, she’s started talking about “I don’t play with boys anymore, I only play with girls”, and I’m worried that it’s the daycare enforcing some backwards ass standard of conduct in their playtime, and I’m almost afraid to ask,
@Berntley, because I can’t afford to put them anywhere else. And I hate to see such a bold and contentious move on the part of the scouts essentially amount to nothing in regards to what good might have truly come of it.
@Berntley, that’s kind of what I’m actually talking about. My issue has absolutely nothing to do with the biological differences between boys and girls. I have zero problem with girl only groups, boy only groups, and coed groups. Sometimes you want to associate with your own kind, and sometimes you want to explore with people that are different. Both are valuable experiences, particularly during the formative years.
But there’s a hypocrisy involved when an organization purporting to be a safe space for boys is not only made coed, but specifically goes out of its way to separate the girls within the very organization they wanted to join.
It’s actually very typically feminist, and it’s a very self absorbed attitude. If there are no boys in the troop, it isn’t the BOY scouts.
It bothers me that the very same people who are demanding safe spaces for themselves are the ones denying it to others. Excluding them from anything is criminal, but they can keep out whomever they please.
@Berntley, and this troop in question is specifically denying entrance to boys.
@I Are Lebo, The thing is, the decision to keep them separate seems to come from more of a puritanical, archaic standard, not some hyper-feminist “no boys allowed” outcry. The decision for ALL troops to keep the genders separate was not the result of the women saying “we want to do the boy stuff, but the boys aren’t allowed!” It was the current, long-standing establishment that is the Boy Scouts saying “we’ll allow the girls their own troops under our banner, but we aren’t ready to have co-mingling groups at this time.” And it’s not this one troop. From what I read, all places where girls are being allowed into the scouts, they are forming separate female and male groups, regardless of what the youth themselves would prefer.
@I Are Lebo, Scouting internationally has always included boys and girls under the same banner. The fact that it took the US as long as it did to align with the rest if thr organization is ridiculous. In this very specific, singular case in Arkansas there is already an all-boys troop as well. The simple fact is that the girl scouts dont offer the same experience Scout BSA does. If they want to remain competitive they'll hopefully start to change if they notice they're losing numbers but the fact is they've been unwilling to do so or ignorant to the desires of those they serve up to now.
@Berntley, I remember hearing a lot about the Boy Scouts going coed. I hadn’t heard anything about separating the girls and boys as a rule. Doing that completely defeats the purpose of the Girl Scouts and they’re right to sue over it.
@TheWhiteWolf, like I said before, I’m not opposed to coed or single gender scouting. I’m opposed to the practices of having girls be allowed into boys only clubs but boys not be allowed into girls only clubs. That’s all. If both sides get their own group, I don’t really care, but it isn’t the BOY scouts if the troop is all girls and doesn’t allow boys in.
@I Are Lebo, Didn’t know there was a lawsuit in place. The whole deal seems to be a senseless shîtshow, which could easily be alleviated by either combining them into one amalgamated organization, giving the kids themselves the options of which things they wanna be involved in, much like the scouts themselves, to my understanding, but across both platforms.
@Berntley, exactly. The girls who wanted into the Boy Scouts should have been petitioning the Girl Scouts to implement the kind of events they wanted.
The whole point of the Boy Scouts was to give boys a place to be boys and to learn what that means for them.
It seems like a trend to me. Fitness clubs that have only coed or female only groups, political organizations that serve only women but none for just men “because that’s misogynistic”.
“No girls allowed” is a bigoted statement, but “no boys allowed” is empowerment. It’s like, what? How can someone say garbage like that and then argue they stand for equality. The excuse is “every space is a boys space” yet any space for men alone is sexist.
Feminists fight against video games for appealing to male fantasy, for crying out loud. That’s the entire point of those games.
Girl Scouts is just child labor with extra steps. Change my mind.
@Weird Porn Stash, The little ones are called brownies, but all they do is sell cookies....
@Weird Porn Stash, I was a girl scout and we didn’t do shjt so, if it is, it’s highly ineffective.
Ha ha ha..."equality"... that's a good one!
Boy Scouts is a better organization. And we’ve had girls for years in coed Venture Scouts which is part of BSA. (We really only discriminated against gay and trans people). Now all three options are in one organization and not under the claw of a cookie conglomerate.
@BennMann, I really hope that discrimination line isn’t being spoken from a place of pride
These posts are@meant to divide. Garbage.
So.... there's a thing called Venture Scouts. It's coed and it's awesome!
This is why you never pander to the left. BSA proved they are spineless and are suffering the consequences
Lotta ignorant men on this app lmao. Get some therapy for your hatred of woman based off complicated relationships with your mothers.
I say girl scouts can do whatever they want, boy scouts do whatever they want and Apache attack helicopter scouts do whatever they want to
America should just have one scouts group like the fvking rest of the world. What a bizarre country
Girls create their own organization. And what do they do!? Do they change the world!? Do they go out in adventures!? NO!!!!!! Do they help the elders!? NO!!!
They sell cookies.
Wtf, it’d make more sense the other way. They’ve got all the cookies and like... girls.
@Sarcastic Wombat, As a former girl scout, I can tell you that Girl Scouts is completely useless. It's a waste of time and money. And the Girl Scouts don't give a sh*t that girls actually want to do stuff like survival and wilderness training. Trust me. We've been harassing them for decades but they think the only thing we need or want is to make friendship bracelets, cook, and sell cookies. The BSA heard the voices of girls who wanted to camp, make fire, etc. when the Girl Scouts couldn't be bothered and would rather perpetuate gender stereotypes.
