If that 2nd picture is real, I'd really like to know why in the hell he isn't allowed to paint his own shed.
@The Pocket Taco, regulations
@The Pocket Taco, hoa says it can only be tan or yellow, not orange
@Your Darkest Secret, at the risk of not sounding like an intellectual, that's just fvcking stupid. Anyone should be able to paint their shed whatever color they want.
@The Pocket Taco, agreed how ever I have to compete with both the HOA and Town regulations. If my fence breaks doe to a wind storm I have to file a permit with my town just to fix it. My HOA doesn't give a damn so they didn't report me when I went ahead and just fixed it but 2 blocks over where my mom lives hers is brutal and called the town if the lawn isn't the right height.
@Your Darkest Secret, What is an hoa? I’ve heard them mentioned in TV shows - usually involving a busybody neighbour wanting to stop someone doing something - but I don’t really get what they are.
@daily joke, Hold up, what? Seriously?
@Nellybert , Home Owners Association.
@Nellybert , yup it all depends on your neighbors being nice or a-holes. And how prude the HOA is.
@Nellybert , A homeowner's association (HOA) is an organization in a subdivision, planned community, or condominium building that makes and enforces rules for the properties and its residents. Those who purchase property within an HOA's jurisdiction automatically become members and are required to pay dues, known as HOA fees.
@Nellybert , Home Owners Association. If you ever wish to own a home, you better hope you have a good HOA or none at all because they will regulate every outside aspect of your home. You may own it but stuff like not being able to paint your fence a color, or grass is too long, are real violations of living in those communities
@The Pocket Taco, sounds like a büllshït homeowner association
@Your Darkest Secret, Holy crap, I am so glad we don’t have those in the UK!
@Nellybert , If you live somewhere with a good HOA there are upsides, some will maintain parks, pools, and entertainment centers for anyone in the neighborhood to use, pay for sidewalks to shoveled, and they'll ensure no one on the block lives with rusted broken cars on their dead lawns while they spray paint their houses and lower your property value. When the HOA is bad though, its a nightmare.
@The Pocket Taco, because socialism
@No Lollygagging, Fair point. Sounds like something that I’d immediately look in to how best to influence/take over, just in case.
@Nellybert , Another problem with HOAs is that they can stop you from parking your car in front of your house or even from parking on your own driveway overnight. It causes people with not enough space in their garage for all of their cars to park outside of their area, in an area that doesn’t have an HOA
@USMCScoop, can I refuse to pay those fees and instead use them to involuntarily ship the assholes in charge to a third-world country?
@Commandshark, People put cars in garages? Where do they keep power tools, old furniture, odd plies of junk, and all their other random crap?????
To be fair though, my garage is over 70 years old, and cars have gotten a little wider since 1950, so putting my actual car in the garage probably isn’t an option here!
@Nellybert , I have a one car attached garage and have never put my car in it in 13 years. House was built in 1948 so it’s a small one too.
@Your Darkest Secret, I never watch the show, but my family watched duck dynasty and one of them made a good point. "So you're telling me there is a group that tells me what I can and can't do with my own house, and I pay them?"
@Zorb, Honestly think the only way I could park my car in my garage weld be to get one where you can get out and it drives itself back in to the space, then drives itself out again in the morning (I think Tesla’s can do that if you buy the upgraded software, and some BMWs can do it - so I reckon I’ll be parking on the driveway for a while yet!)
@The Pocket Taco, I used to intern for a municipality and while I was there I did some code enforcement. The issue for most things like this was a town ordinance where you cannot do work on a house that isn’t yours without a license. This mostly came up with people renting houses
I agree with both.
@Ajunta Pall, How about painting your own shed with a targeting laser for the nuclear drop?
I'd be content with a minigun
@TheGrizzlyPhantom, *gives you a derringer*
@TheGrizzlyPhantom, at only $2500 a minute with today's ammo prices
@BigJohnson86, or the Noisy Cricket!
I mean... why can’t I own nuclear weapons?
@Thane of Deez, cuz the man is keeping us down. The founding fathers intended for us to have nuclear weapons.
@BigJohnson86, if I can’t hold the power of the sun in the palm of my hand, what’s even the point of life
Because Google, the private company* that controls social credit scores, (...) said no.
@Cave Dweller, Libertarians, the only people who could make Liberals seem sane.
@Cave Dweller, hmmm, not really. We just want to be left alone and not have our rights restricted in any way. Liberals just seem to want to restrict rights.
@Cave Dweller, as a libertarian I should be offended. As a libertarian that’s heard other libertarians: I get it
Beep beep beep popcorn's done
i might convert just to find out why he cant paint his own shed
@Z0IDBERG, because the Home Owners Association says what he can and can’t do with his own property. Worst part is unless you live in an area without an HOA, you’re forced to pay them for that ah “privilege”
